I can't find the old cigar thread. Does anyone know any gluten free cigar brands? I never thought about the wraps having gluten on them.. I have celiac disease so after I've smoked no details needed..
Master-race Alec Bradley cigars are 100% gluten free. A friend of mine has celiac as well, AB's are the only cigars he smokes now. He's never had an issue.
Had a Man of War last night. Really good smoke for a good price. Probably making a run tomorrow to get some sticks I haven’t tried yet.
Some manufacturers use vegetable gum to roll and cap their sticks. Apparently vegetable gums are wheat-based.
Been looking at humidors. Don't need anything crazy expensive, and really only need to hold 50+ cigars. Was looking around on this site: https://www.cheaphumidors.com/humidors/medium-humidors/price-range/0-102.html Anyone have one they would recommend? Plan on just using the Boveda 69% with this digital hygrometer:
It depends. I don’t really care to have a decorative box to display so I use a tupperdore. Air tight Tupperware with a boveda 69 and hygrometer. Works great. From what I’ve read, the quality humidors are $150+
Yeah, I wasn't sure if these were quality. Most of the one's I'm looking at are around $100 but with the discount they say they retail for $150+. Never owned a desktop humidor before, so not really sure if there is a go-to brand that I should look out for.
Also, does anyone know how big of an impact having a glass top humidor makes? I've read articles that state they are more prone to leaking and losing humidity. Is this a huge concern?
Not as long as you don't put it in the direct sunlight (which is bad for the cigars anyway). I have multiple humidors with my first being the El Rey glass top and to be honest, it has been the best of all at holding consistent humidity. I'd strongly recommend it: https://www.cheaphumidors.com/humidors/medium-humidors/the-el-rey-glass-top-cigar-humidor.html
Cool, I may go with that one so I don't have to worry about upgrading in the future when I inevitably acquire more cigars. Do you know what the seasoning process for that humidor would be (or would I even need to since the digital hygrometer I linked above comes already calibrated)? Also, even if I don't start out with that many cigars (roughly 15-20), should I still plan on using 2 Boveda packs (I noticed in the image you linked, there are two humidifiers)?
https://cigar-coop.com/2016/11/cigar-review-aladino-elegante-by-jre-tobacco-company.html This is a pretty new cigar I ended up trying the other day. Fantastic smoke.
Also an event the place I go to holds every year, you guys should look into it. $150 entry, 45 free cigars, free food, free alcohol. All the big players are there. Rocky Patel brings in Ray Lewis & Gary Sheffield for their shitty cigars. Super fun time. http://www.thegreatsmoke.com/
Any good sites/blogs/forums you all check out to get recommendations on sticks to try? I just got into the hobby recently so I'm looking for a good set to get started with and build up from there.
Cigar Coop and Cigar Afficiando are probably the best. Recommend starting mild to medium to start. There are some really strong cigars that if you haven’t got food in your stomach, will fuck you up. A perfect starting cigar which I smoke in the morning and on the golf course is a Drew Estate Undercrown Shade. Very mild and a good start
JR Cigars has tons and tons of reviews at their website. Cigarbid.com has a lot of auctions where you can practically steal boxes and bundles for a fraction of retail. If you're just getting started, follow Wendel Clark's advice and stick to milds & mediums. Typically the lighter the wrapper shade, the lighter the smoke. I personally smoke only strong, dark cigars. One medium that I do like that is easy to find a relatively affordable is the Romeo y Julieta Cedro Deluxe No. 2. Very good smoke. Definitely invest in a decent butane torch lighter. You can usually get them at little or no cost in starter kits from online retailers.
Picked up a box of these today. My humidor isn't going to be seasoned for another week, is it ok to leave these in the box they came in until then, or do i need to find a tupperware with a boveda? Wasn't sure if a week would make a difference.
Drop a Boveda Humidipak (72%) into the box they came in and you'll be good until the move to your seasoned humidor.
Appreciate it. Since its only going to be used for a week, can I throw that same boveda pack into the humidor when its ready, or should i swap it out with a new one?
At the cigar bar in west palm, Mayor Giuliani just walked in and having a cigar and scotch with me. So fucking cool
Been smoking almost exclusively Perdomos since I started smoking cigars a few years ago. Would appreciate some Connecticut recommendations.
Don't really care for Connecticut's myself, but Camacho Connecticut & Asylum 13 Connecticut are both pretty tasty and I would consider both again.
Haven’t had the chance to try that one but I’ll be hard pressed to find a cigar much better for under $20 than the no 9
Also really enjoy the Recluse Connecticut brand. Also another mild cigar that is amazing but expensive is the Diamond Crown
Padron 45 Year Reserve is my favourite non cuban cigar. Had the Padron 50th after winning a bet with a buddy at the cigar bar that the Bills would have more wins than the Bucs. Was not worth the extra $15 on the 45 year. A cigar I find very similar to the Padron is the Olivia Melanio. So smooth.
I didn’t get that with the melanio. I was really looking forward to smoking it but was just kind of meh for me. Too much on the light side. Padron’s are unbelievable though Had a Pappy Van Winkle cigar at Christmas. Definitely worth the money
Interesting. The pappys are supposed to be great. I’ve two buddies buy one and both of them blew up and fell apart. Must have been a bad batch
I've seen the pappy's at a few places. Wasn't sure if they were worth the price point. Figured it was more of a marketing gimmick.
So pumped for the event this weekend. Drew estate event tomorrow, dinner with Perdomo and then rocky Patel event Friday. Then the great smoke Saturday.
How was the event? There’s an Oliva event this weekend but I don’t think I can make it. Had a LFD Chapter 1 this past weekend...definitely one of my top 3 smokes
I’ve been buying Alec Bradley’s since you brought this up and I’ve had no issues with any of his sticks. They are solid smokes too. Thank you again man!
Glad to hear it. If you like a strong, spicy cigar try AB American Sun Grown if you haven't already. They're amazing.
