It’s gotta be Meyer. Tell Jax to tear up that contract
Man the Jags would luck out amazingly if Urban bailed out
Has Cronin really succeeded yet? I get he made a Final Four run, but UCLA went unranked nearly the whole year and barely made the tourney.
It doesnt inspire confidence in Franklin when PSU fans are so eager to push him to USC
There is two reasons I can think of. 1) you avoid the possibility that he finishes well at 8-4 and looks good at the end of the year you talk yourself into keeping him. 2) you can control the message in recruiting that you are moving forward and avoid months of feeding recruits bullshit, rivals talking shit about your program and be proven right ultimately
UCLA currently has the third best odds behind Gonzaga and Michigan...to win the NCAA Basketball Natty this year. I'd say he's successful just for that.
Maybe. I just don't think "we shouldn't hire someone younger because they might leave if they do well" is a good plan at a place like Cincinnati. Hire the best guy. If it's Coombs, cool. If someone else is better, hire that guy.
I think that says more about UCLA than Cronin, and it would be the same odds if Kansas, Kentucky or Carolina had just made an unexpected run.
All I’m saying is that Cronin was an overtime against Michigan State from closing out 2020-21 with five straight losses on an unspectacular year.
Now he has a Final Four and is getting a recruiting bump, so we’ll see if he sustains it.
I don’t think we would be able to hire anybody better in terms of overall program head coach. He sucks on gameday but if he has a good OC he has a really high ceiling.
really don’t know if this is a serious post.
Really hard to compare CBB and CFB given the intricacies in both of those landscapes
USC doesnt hesitate when it comes to clippin their coach
I guess you were serious.
From what he took over to where we are it’s a huge difference. It was a complete shitshow. He was recruiting well before the final 4 run. I think he has already proven the experts who called this a horrible hire at least somewhat wrong. If Finklle is a good coach he will do well at sc.
UCLA is gonna be ranked #1 to start the year. Of course he is a success after what UCLA went through the last 7-8 years
Also congrats to the new analyst for bama
I acknowledged that the sports are different but my point is that a good coach will succeed no matter the place.
I thought #1 would apply to Georgia, and while the Atlanta media cries about it still, they got over it b/c the fans shrugged. My guess is Los Angeles folks would shrug on the lack of a daily beat report.
Hafley would be a good hire and he'd cost less money than Fickell or Franklin. His personality would probably work well in LA too.
I want them to hire Franklin because I think that would be highly entertaining
Or they are late and should have fired the coaches the previous offseasons.
If you’re looking for entertainment vale, then Kiffin II is the move.
ITT I learned tha LA fans are schrodinger's fans. Both care too much and not at all.
The practice secrecy thing is more so just something I don’t think plays with the media and feeds into the negativity aspect. I’m just thinking about Carroll having celebs at their practices and shit and how wildly different some of these other coaches are in that regard to the opposite extreme.
feel like kyle whittingham would kill it over there
he couldnt even beat BYU
It’s weird that there never seems to be a natural auto hire at usc. And that goes back a ways.
Kliff would have been fun
Their best hire - Pete Carroll - was also their 5th or 6th choice and the hire was universally hated by their fan base at the time.
Do people really think they will hire Kiffin back or that he would even take the job? He would probably pull the Cliff Alexander hat switch before signing the contract.
I know! That’s what’s so crazy. They rehired John Robinson at one point.
I was thinking it was the opposite. The two guys they hired after Pete left were former SC coaches, and the only guys they seemed to consider outside of them were former SC players who coached in the NFL (Del Rio and Fischer). Seems like they're going to have to actually go outside the family for this one.
Is Jeff Fisher interested?
Couldn't be happier (and more surprised) to be wrong.
Matt Campbell about to get a huge pay bump
what's del rio up to these days?
canvassing for larry elder
DC for The Football Team
Stop telling SC about Hafley Husks already called dibs
Not sure what, but something.
I heard a lot of stories about campbell during our last hire that leads me to believe he would never coach in a big city
Job has been open for 5 hours, people are stupid but try harder loser
He’s a terrible recruiter and Southern Cal is already getting raided.
I mean he was decent at point guard? Unless, of course you meant schrodinger.
