I have a feeling that the acquisition was much less than Clay would lead everyone to believe. I think they just hired him full time and paid something for his prior IP and branding. Either that or Whitlock is legitimately the dumbest person alive, which I guess is still fully in play.

I understand and agree with the criticism of Portnoy. I also get the argument that supporting barstool in any way supports him to some extent. But, as a platform, it does produce a tremendous amount of content that isn't in any way related to him in subject matter. I'm not one for posting receipts, but a lot of folks who are very vocally anti-barstool now (and can justify that stance) were posting pretty regularly in that thread for years. Which at the very least shows that the content that they enjoyed was, up to a certain point, not objectionable to them.
I just don’t get how what they do prompts that degree of discussion. They ain’t splitting the atom or anything. Politics aside, I’ve just never gotten into it. It’s something my college-mid 20s self would have liked (like Maxim magazine) but doesn’t appeal to middle aged me. I have younger brothers who are early 20s and I get why they like it, but I feel like it’s something you’d grow out of.

To the first sentence, I was just explaining how the thread is 600 pages. I don't fault people for changing their opinions on things. I certainly have. Also agree that Barstool has changed a lot, largely leaning more into politics. Obviously, I don't like that. Yeah, I am a fan of a lot of obscure/niche sports and like sportsbetting, so I naturally am bro-adjacent.
I think that the corporate-ness of it now is why they've made such a hard lean into politics as the "anti-cancel culture" outlet. The CEO is a pretty massive chud.

as a former daily listener of PMT, poster in the Barstool thread, and consumer of some other content they put out in prior years, pulling the plug on all of that in 2020 was so satisfying. Certainly was sucked in do to interest in formative years. But unfollowing the pods/social accounts was really all it took. So much trash runs through there, it was an easy decision to make. So much better writing/pods/entertainment out there. Is every person or product poisoned? No. But supporting any of it leads back to the same places that I found so awful and objectionable. And at the end of the day, it is just a huge waste of time.
