Do we really not have a thread for this show on this board? Just threw the pilot on Amazon video. such a great fucking show
This is the biggest thread I could find on it, from the final season and probably where others continued commenting if they binged... https://www.the-mainboard.com/index.php?threads/friday-night-lights-season-5.69776/ But that's not on the TV board and it's old. Anyway, thank you for posting this because I did not know it was on Amazon and was wanting to do a rewatch but it was taken off Netflix and I don't want to get Hulu.
Tyfys laxjoe Wife and I are watching through this for the first time ever Just finished season 3, Joe McCoy is a world class jerkoff
I felt like season 2 could have been fine/saved had the writer strike been resolved/not happened and it didn't turn into a shortened/unresolved season. There were a bunch of characters/storylines that just got completely abandoned like Santiago after they moved on to Season 3 and JD McDick.
The shit with Landry/Tyra and Julie and the Swede was just so bad. The season still had its moments but god that stuff was awful.
There's no saving the murder plot, but its at least something that got Landry/Tyra together as a couple, which to me was infinitely more interesting than the Riggins/Tyra (aka we couldn't afford to bring back Minka Kelly) resolution at the end of the series. Julie and the Swede was the start of like 3 season of Julie basically turning into a bitch (although one that could grow out of it and still become her goddess mom in 30 years), it wasn't any worse than her cheating with her married TA.
Loved that show. Wife loved it to except for the school counselor parts with Mrs. Taylor. There was so much stuff that was illegal or wouldn’t have been approved.
Never seen this show and saw it when it popped on Prime; binged all five seasons in less than a week. Loved all of it but season two. Daaaamn Julie. Those freckles. Landry would totally be an InCel neck beard if this was made today. I did like how there was entire half of the town we’d never heard of before that appeared in season 4.
How dare you say something like that about Lance. And season 2 was pretty bad. I don't know how much of it was the writer strike and whatnot as previously mentioned but I also think the showrunners were making some bad attempts to gain viewers to keep the show on air and ended up making some really bad decisions. Luckily, once NBC dropped them and DirecTV picked them up they felt more comfortable just doing the show well and it was great.
The writer's strike had a huge impact, season 2 was originally supposed to be a full 22 episode season like season 1 but the strike cut it to 15, essentially cutting off an entire story arc.
I have watched the series several times over and am going to Texas next week and already have my Dillon Football and Texas Forever shirts. Yep, I am that guy 6 years too late and give zero fucks walking around saying every cliche saying. Show was that good.
Rewatching for the 3rd time.. just finished season 1. It’s so great. The murder season 2 just happened.. this season doesn’t suck but not my favorite..
Just finished a rewatch too. There is so much adult-teen relationship stuff in this show it really makes me wonder about Peter Berg a bit. Otherwise really enjoyed it! Saracen and Riggins are the best. That JD McCoy really turned into a son of a bitch overnight. Not a lot of nuance to that character. I prefer Luke’s arc more where he had good and bad moments, not going from sheep to Bond villain in one episode. Some of the East Dillon race stuff is pretty problematic with how they portray Vince from his first appearance.
Just finished season 3 episode 4 where Williams gets the call.. always get emotional watching this episode it’s so well done. People helping people.. love to see it.. season 3 might be my favorite season of the 5
How much did Berg have to do with the show though? I thought I read it was very little but I’m probably wrong. also you’re from Texas. Did you not have that adult/teen relationship shit where you grew up? We certainly did. and the JD shit happens quite a bit in Texas football.
That show was intense. Binged it quick and it was good, but just a grind for some of those characters. I really enjoyed it.
Just finished watching this for the first time. What a great show. Really liked the line from the Warrenfield State coach in one of the last eps, "we play most of our games in Arkansas but every other year we get to play a game in Oklahoma!" No wonder Luke joined the military.
