Driving up Wednesday and staying at a hotel in Palm Springs. So excite That Friday schedule is going to be very hard to figure out
From the limited info I can find, it sounds like LCD was amazing. I really hope that's true. Please confirm CTownND and three stacks.
they were dope. disclosure was my favorite act of the whole weekend followed by jack u. holy shit am i exhausted
Haha that was close to being me. We got loaded on the shuttle Friday afternoon and needed some time to calm down. Saturday riding to the fest the bathroom in the shuttle was locked and they said it was someone threw up in there the day before - didnt know that was such an epidemic haha
Yep, LCD was great. I was a little upset I looked at the setlists for the first 3 warm up shows because they stuck so closely to them, so don't look if you haven't. But they sounded super tight, strong performance. They hurried - but not rushed - so they could get an extra song in and did a great cover of Heroes before curfew. Believe they came out 3-4 mins early too, so played about 110-113 minutes. I'll probably write more later but am behind on work and tired as fuck, so for now I'll just leave my "rough" top 10 based on general order: Last Shadow Puppets Guns N' Roses Courtney Barnett LCD Soundsystem Rancid Beach House Sia Deerhunter Sufjan Stevens Miike Snow Note: Excluding 2ManyDjs and Underworld because I saw 1/3 of the set but both were very fun
if you're going this weekend, do yourself a favor and make sure you watch disclosure. you will not be disappointed
I'll highlight a few from each day that stood out. Friday: LCD - Just amazing and lived up to what I was hoping for. Finishing the set with Someone Great, Losing My Edge, New York I Love You, Dance Yrself, Heroes, and All My Friends was amazing and it may be my favorite Coachella memory ever. All My Friends was such a special moment. Sufjan - I had heard his show was a little different, but I was still surprised. I had no idea what I was watching but it was amazing. I expected a chill, laid back set but he was all over the place and had so much energy. The costumes were amazing too... from the angel wings to the balloon suit to the neon green jumpsuit. Robert DeLong - I'd been trying to see him for a few years. Super talented individual. He live mixed everything and did it by running around the stage to four different drum sets that were set up. Really impressive musicianship. Parov Stelar - Holy fucking shit were these guys good. Their whole vibe was awesome. The horn section, their costumes... it felt like we were in Havana, Cuba in the 1950's. The entire tent was dancing their asses off for 50 minutes. Saturday: GnR - Completely blew me away. Axl sounded great and Slash was Slash. I left a little early but made it back in time to see them close with Paradise City. I loved how Slash would play little snippets of Hendrix solos in between the GnR songs. People were predicting that they were washed up and would be terrible. I'm glad they proved all the haters wrong. Ice Cube - First time that all surviving members of NWA were on stage together in 25 years. Also got to hear Dre do his verse in California Love. Fucking amazing. RUFUS DU SOL - Got dragged here by a friend right after Dre finished and I'm happy I went. Tons of energy and great music to dance to. The Dead Ships - They've only released two EP's so far and I can see them becoming pretty big in the coming years. It's solid, guitar driven rock and it seemed like they had their shit together and were working pretty hard. Sunday: Sia - Just wow. I'd never seen anything like that. I only saw the first half of her set. Just an incredible piece of art. Matt and Kim - Had so much fun here. They were funny and brought a lot of energy. Another huge dance party. Miike Snow - Great energy, great music, great crowd... I only saw the last half of their set but I can't want to see them again at Outside Lands where I can easily see them opening for LCD. Anderson Paak - This dude can play the drums. Another set that I only saw part of, but I was there when Kendrick came out so that mad me happy. I hadn't heard of him before the lineup came out but I can see him becoming huge in no time. Rancid - Got in the mosh pit for them and had a great time. Early '90s punk rock was the first kind of music that I remember really liking so bands like Green Day (when they played punk), Social D, Rancid, etc will always have a special place in my heart. Edward Sharpe - I was a little worried how it would be without Jade, but they were still great. The story time during Home was really, really cool and was a great way to spend Sunday evening. Overall I saw 49 different acts plus Despacio with James Murphy DJ'ing. I had a great time and was able to introduce a handful of friends to their first Coachella and they all loved it too. It was funny because on Friday as I was walking through the security line I was thinking to myself "This year is probably it for me.... I don't think I have another Coachella left in my body" but by the time I was back in camp after LCD I was already looking forward to next year. The festival chews you up and spits you out but the entire experience is such a special thing.
So... Anyone else hear about this? Is it legit? http://www.91x.com/adam/new-coachel...ce-this-october-and-the-line-up-is-legendary/
Yes. It looks almost guaranteed to be announced in the next couple weeks. 5 of the 6 rumored acts (all except Neil Young) posted 30 second highlight videos to their social media accounts this week with "OCTOBER" flashing across the screen at the end. It won't be "Coachella" named though, so it's not really "fall Coachella." Just a separate event on the Polo Grounds run by Goldenvoice. I'm looking to book a refundable hotel in Palm Springs for that weekend ASAP - but looks like most hotels already have it priced in (i.e. the Ace Hotel is like $500 per night that weekend when its normally ~$200).
Don't think I'll be going but it would be sick. An older guy I work with mentioned it to me, said it is being dubbed "Oldchella"
I'd certainly go, but I have a free place to stay 2 miles from the polo grounds (my parents). I read online if they get the 99k they get for coachella, which I think itd have to be a smaller number with less bands, they'd have to charge $366 just to cover the artist appearance fees. Assuming this, tickets have to be like $600+.
There's a lot of weird information and misinformation about this for now, so I'm just going to wait until all the info comes out. While I wouldn't be shocked if ticket prices are $600-1,000 (one article did some analysis and estimated they will be $950), I still think they'll be in the $350-500 range. Most of what people are estimating is from NME's report that each act is getting paid $7m. I think that's a ridiculous number that's off - i think GnR got the biggest payday in Coachella history and I heard somewhere $8m and that was for two shows, so if they are paying someone like Bob Dylan (who has significantly deteriorated as a live performer) $7m for just one show, that's a little ridiculous and best of luck Goldenvoice on making money on this.
The most I'd pay would be around $500. The Stones and McCartney are worth $150 each. I'd probably pay $100 for Neil Young (would be more but I've been burned by him before). Bob Dylan is apparently terrible live, the Who's rhythm section is dead, and I'm completely indifferent towards Pink Floyd so $100 for the three of them sounds about right.
Agreed, $400 and cheaper than I'm all in. $400-600 would be a tough call but would lean to going. Over $600 would be tough to justify for so few acts. I've seen Dylan and agree, he's horrendous now, almost like he tries to be bad. The wild card variable is I always have a bunch of friends going to Coachella, but not sure many of my friends would be up for this (I've got one "in" and one "maybe" right now).
Surprised GA is so cheap, but kind of concerned to pay that and likely not be able to get anywhere close enough to even see the bands besides on giant screens, and its not like theres any elevation to the land so you could see over all the seats and grandstands.
pass on the oldchella. I'm sure that's going to be an amazing experience though. when is the first advance sale for Coachella 2017?
They have car camping available for this... but I'm not sure why anyone would do that. If I go to this I'm definitely doing a house.
so Friday night of the Stones and then Bob Dylan mumbling over a piano playing few of the songs people want to hear.
Good luck for people getting tickets to Desert Trip in the morning, have a feeling it's gonna be a shit show given the 8 ticket limit. Have so many friends whose parents and parents' friends and parents' friends' friends are trying to get tickets, so not confident at all I can get a pass. Decided I can't pass up a GA for this.
I'm a member of a golf club right across the street from the polo grounds, so goldenvoice gives them tickets to sell to members for coachella and stagecoach after they sell out. Hoping its the same for Desert Trip because I don't think I'll be able to be online in time to snag tickets.
I can't even imagine all the old people trying to figure out ordering these tickets online My friends parents said they are going, acted like getting tickets wouldn't be as hard as I was trying to tell them
Phew. My buddy got through and bought 4 for us so I'm going. My friend's parents are loaded too and they got 2 tickets plus 2 tickets for their loaded friends, so I'm pushing the idea of getting a sick house walking distance that weekend haha.
Good luck everyone! One of my girlfriend's friends just texted me "where do we go to get tickets?" Have a feeling it might not all work out for our group this year lol
Coachella @coachella 4m4 minutes ago We are aware of the error code message and are working to resolve. I have tickets in my cart and when I check out I get an error message. I'm about to lose my mind.
Two GAs for Weekend 1. We're trying to rent a walking distance house next year, anyone can stop by for a pre-fest beer if they wan.t
