Much rather have Thomas Frank. Man finished 17th in the league and won a meaningless trophy that had no good teams in it.
such an asinine attitude to have. there are like a dozen clubs in Europe that wouldn’t be fucking ecstatic to win the Europa League.
And Liverpool, who I hope isn't in it for a while, which I'm sure will be in the future would want to win it if we were in it
I think the new format has ruined a bit of the prestige of Europa since UCL teams no longer drop into the competition. However, sacking Ange seems short sighted. They could have tried giving him some reinforcements before sacking him, but he also had a horrible season. I can see both sides to this. The one thing I can say with some degree of certainty is that since it's the Spurs, they will make the wrong decision.
I think this talking point was planted by Arsenal fans to cope. It exploded after the final but didn’t feature in convo mid tourney. In any event, who cares. You want to win the tournament you’re in. The champions league features mostly teams who aren’t champions. No one is upset to win it. Even if it’s watered-down and shitty, winning a trophy for the actual community of a club is a huge deal.
I agree, but on a normal year 38 points is just barely safe from relegation. Will they be better next season? I don't know. Personally i dont think he should have been sacked yet, but certainly start the season on the hot seat.
This is my view, especially since the popular(by mentions) replacement would be available at that point as well
Yeah I don't think canning him or keeping him is unreasonable. I think waiting two weeks after the Final to can him-- implying it was a foregone conclusion but they weren't ready-- is comically incompetent. My main beef was just the dumb elitism towards trophies most real fans of real clubs (not global brands) would be overjoyed to have.
au contraire, only when i started comparing european footy to american college football did i start to understand it better Spoiler See, the top 5 leagues are like the power 5 conferences, and other leagues are like the group of 5 Champions league = expanded college football playoff Italy & france = Big 12 and Pac 12, with France (like the pac12) circling the drain due to TV network money issues The rich 3 (spain, germany, england) = SEC, Big 10, ACC Prem, like the SEC, is far and away the wealthiest All the leagues have bluebloods, then you have your relegation teams (vanderbilts, northwesterns, etc) its not perfect but it works! I tested it on a couple of newbie friends and they immediately got it
I disagree I told TheFreak55 a month ago that for potential trophies of a Premier League club, it was clearly 2nd tier with FA Cup behind League/UCL and that with clubs not dropping down from Champions League now that I’d say FA Cup was 3rd I only put it in the same tier because winning it gets you UCL but if you’re one of the big clubs, you’re upset to even be in the competition Edit: And yes you want to just win whatever competition you’re in but at least 1 person in the Chelsea fan was joking/laughing at my nephew going to the Conference League final
