I also make to order but a zojirushi thermos will keep a cup hot for like 8 hours. It can give some people a metallic aftertaste though

I haven’t had that issue with the ceramic coated zojurushi or the fellow coffee containers

The ones I have are stainless and I feel like I can taste it, but it could just be in my head.

Interested to hear everyone’s brew methods. High Cotton we need to edit the op like they’ve done with the food thread and bourbon thread. I’ve gone from using a Bunn coffee maker and pulverizing my grinds with a Walmart grinder to making consistently great coffee with a Chemex because of this thread.

    Here’s mine:

    Equipment
    - Bartazza Virtuoso Grinder
    - Chemex
    - Regular Chemex paper filters
    - Cheap Mr Coffee electric kettle

    Beans
    - Usually use beans from coffee shop down the street. Roasted in the past few weeks

    Method
Grind the beans to a 17 on the Virtuoso, adjust depending on the bean. Finer grind for the more tart beans, coarser for the darker roasts. I use a 1:15 coffee to water ratio most of the time. Water at 200 degrees. Wet the filter, pour out the water quickly so it contacts all sides of the Chemex spout.

I pour slightly less than double the weight of the beans in water to let the coffee bloom for 45 seconds. Typical mechanics: pour in circles, focusing on the dark spots and trying not to hit the filter. The more attentive I am with keeping that water level consistent, pouring slowly and keeping the water heated, the better results I tend to get. I usually keep the water level about 1 finger below the top of the spout until I am out of water.

The below compass has helped with perfecting to bean type and roast. Great tool for those starting out:

Love my chemex. Haven’t used it recently. I do find for some reason the caffeine content is crazy. I get the caffeine buzz and crash. Vs double espresso or traditional Braun coffeemaker

I've followed this technique, but I've bumped up the coffee to 32-33g and 550 ml for brewing 2 cups in the morning

Tried either of them yet? I may order from CC next. It’s been a while since I got any of their coffee but they’re cheaper than Talormade and just as good.

Speaking of Talormade, the Apple lemongrass one was .. interesting. Thankfully, the lemongrass notes weren’t overpowering. The mango passion fruit (Ethiopian) was great - wish I had ordered another bag.

Not officially. I tried the Nolberto yesterday afternoon, but got a call mid-brew & method went to hell. I haven’t had beans from CC I didn’t love though

Love the blackberry and soda notes. Same notes that this Ecuadorian has that I picked up this morning

got my CC delivery. Also used Google translate.

tried one espresso. Love it. Less chocolate toasty flavor but brighter more acidic. A good change.

Debating upgrading my encore grinder, curious if I’d notice an improvement, how much I’d likely have to spend to see it, and what y’all are using.

I bought a baratza virtuoso for drip/French press about 6 years ago ($179- Looks like the new model is around 250) because supposedly it had a much better “fine control” than the encore because the burr set was better. Haven’t had any issues with it and enjoy the coffee.

Not sure about new entrants to the market. Maybe James Hoffman has a YouTube video? The fellow ode looks interesting.

Seems to be Hoffman’s big complaint, it doesn’t go as fine as he’d like due to the burr design

v60 is my current brew method

Don’t think it’s a case of overkill. It’s a case of method & coffee vs. espresso… There isn’t a one grinder for all.

Anyone have a Breville Barista Express? Thinking about pulling the trigger but it’s obviously not exactly a cheap investment. As much as I would love to be more hands on with espresso, something plug and play has its appeal.

IMO, any type of 2-in-1 machine is always going to be a problematic purchase. I've used my friends Barista Express and the grinder is a complete piece of shit. As Spartan said, just go for Breville Infuser (or used / refurbed Rancilio with PID) and get a grinder like new/refurbished Sette 270 (or 35 and buy the burr assembly to "upgrade" it to 270).

Reddit / Home-Barista used to be filled with people posting about grinder issues on the Barista Express. Even if the quality has improved, it's still a limitation, based on the quality and consistency of grind.

Exciting update on my upgrade burrs, was suppose to arrive on the 14th by USPS. The last update was that they left Seattle on the 9th, that’s all I got…

Alright I still need to take a “after” picture of the grounds but it was definitely worth the $35. Can’t speak highly enough of Baratza, they priority shipped me another burr after 10 days of waiting on USPS with no fuss, their online instructions for spare parts are easy to follow, and the grinder itself disassembled/reassembled with no problem.

Much more consistent grind and a lot faster.

Anyone have the Fellow Ode grinder? Might be swapping out my Virtuoso+ & considering that as the replacement.

I've seen mixed reviews, with most complaints being about the hopper & know Fellow is working on a replacement burr-set due to issues with light roast grinds
