This is where it’s a bit tough finding a machine for him- he only wants espresso based. Doesn’t really enjoy a regular cup of joe. A fully automatic latte machine ain’t cheap folks. At least from what I’ve seen.
Ordered both the new Botz, H&S qonqana and their “lab work” roast and bani beans in the last 2 days. Thankfully I’m splitting the Botz bags and some Bani with someone local.
Geshas usually tend to be floral so looking forward to a fruitier interpretation but seemingly the Ethiopian is a banger.
Check out this link. He sounds like he'd really love some of the expresso pods. I drink melozio boost and it's just fantastic imo. It's nothing like keurig. https://www.nespresso.com/us/en/ver...ICmVOzLyJ8EmSNibx3caAoxQEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
194F dropped to 145F after a minute or so. I think the results speak for themselves… Spoiler I have no idea what to do with this
Some of that will be transferred into the glass, but I can’t imagine it heats the whole thing like the steam does. I like that when I walk over to brew, the kettle is holding temp, the switch is pretty much as hot as it could be, and I’m not using some of the volume of water I have to work with.
Opened the Gesha just now and pulled a 18:54 shot and it was delicious on the first go. Scale wasn’t set to autotime, but it was probably 20ish sec with an 18 grind on the niche Gonna switch with it in the morning and dial in the shot some Sunday.
Just got Botz beans and the Bani beans also landed. If anyone's in NYC, the Botzman is going to be at Suited on 29th.
I have to pick a gift from one of those catalogs for work. Someone has this right? Maybe Jorts https://fellowproducts.com/products/rookie-kit My gooseneck kettle is on its last leg after 7 years so it’s enticing
Love their stuff. Kettle is great... Have had mine for 5+ years now & still kicking. I do like the Stagg X. 1st brewer that the wife manages to make a good cup with. Their filters are proprietary & expensive. Kalita Filters are half the price & identical Don't have the carafe, but have been tempted... reviews/feedback on it I've seen is that it's cumbersomely tall. Coffee Storage Containers are the tits, Scale is well reviewed & their travel mugs are pretty much all I use. The Prismo attachment make the Aeropress 2-3x better... Ode Grinder has worked through their initial QC issues as well & a buddy swears by it.
Have the kettle and carafe. Kettle is fantastic, hold temp function great and it’s fairly fast. Very minor complaint might be flow does break up a bit with a bit of pouring height. carafe looks good and retains heat well, clean pour does take a bit to work out
If it's a significant cost saving, diff story but I'm team Pulsar or Orea over Stagg at this point. Takes out some of the guesswork / consistency issues tbh
Latest bold bean rare of La Pia is fabulous. I emailed Erin and she sold me 5lb bulk bag from what they had left.
Reaching for the Stagg XF most mornings. It’s basically mindless. But yes, the filters are $$$, and XF doesn’t have a good alternative that I’ve found. Want to check out the Pulsar, but I’ve got so much shit it’s a bit ridiculous. Bought a ton of XF filters so riding it a while. This landed today
God damn I never expected much from September coffee coming from a YouTuber but the kickstarter reward bags were pretty good and I ended up splitting 5 bags with someone. all 3 I’ve opened so far have been very good.
My oldest is down for Christmas, and is showing his old man the joys of timed and weighed V60 brewing..
This is your reminder to not run shit beans through a grinder. My Baratza Encore that has served me faithfully for years got gummed up by a single 8oz bag of Starbucks roasted until becomes clay-like beans. They were a Christmas present and I was out of beans one night and needed to get my cold brew brewing. Even set at a very coarse 32 out of 40. Had to break it down into about 10 pieces not counting screws to get it un gummed. And it turned back on and worked fine when re-assembled! Guess I can do small appliance repair now
a.tramp funny that you mentioned "coffee gifts" around the holidays... I get inundated with all kinds of shit-tier beans from acquaintances & co-workers that know I love "bougie coffee." 99% of the population must interpret tasting notes as... "Jorts will probably love Blueberry/Pumpkin & Vanilla flavored coffee" That shit NEVER goes in any of my equipment I donate, give it to someone with a lessor palate or covertly leave it at the office, so someone there can poison themselves... or just straight into the trash Also, the latest 2 Bold Bean SE bean are fabulous
Stopped by bold bean for a cold brew when I was back at my parents last week. Busted out the hario switch for the first time this morning. Does this thread have an agreed upon brew method?
Tried a couple methods and never did notice a massive difference. Simple 2 step worked great if only doing 250g. If I wanted more I just did the 4:6 method with the switch open on the 1st 2 pours, steeped for rest. do wish I had the size 3 but oh well.
DuffandMuff I've mostly been rolling with the 2-step, using a Size 2 & been consistently pleased 25g ground (13-16 on V+); 16:1 ratio, yielding 400g Open for 1st 200g Close Switch at approx 55 seconds Pour remaining 200g Re-open Switch at 3 minutes Draw-down & enjoy
Somehow my fellow carafe has a little chip on the bottom side of the spout, and I’m not sure how it got there. Pissed but it actually pours smoother now. Lol
I grabbed a vacuum sealed bag without a label. In a hurry but noticed they were almost black. Ground a single shot. next morning started to use it again and my Baratza Sette grinder uses time I adjust to 18g and it was at 5 secs. That got me 12g with this Black Death. I realized it was time to abort as I remembered I had some Starbucks cafe Verona left and had not thrown it away. I dumped it all and started some Bold Bean. That Starbucks was like charcoal.
We’ll see if it holds up, but it damn sure pours better. Countdown to the photo of a shattered carafe with coffee everywhere
Sad to get towards the end of this one. It’s been great. I’m in a good spot with their light and bright sub, and then mixing in random specialty orders from them and stuff from botz. Just ordered this: https://littlewaves.coffee/products...-bourbon-scoby-kombucha-fermentation-colombia
First time reader/poster in this thread, do people have strong opinions on Breville espresso makers? I was considering buying this: https://www.crateandbarrel.com/brev...shed-stainless-steel-espresso-machine/s315740 Background: I usually do a flat white or latte, my wife does chai tea lattes. I’m looking for as much automatic as possible because this will be used with 3 young-ish kids distracting us. I’m not that much of a coffee cunt. I just want a dependable product that will give me a good latte and I’m fine overpaying for automatic. TIA
most agree the built in grinder isn’t the best. I have their infuser model and got a good grinder. Depends how automatic you want. These require more work than one button.
Watch a Whole Latte Love or James Hoffman super automatic espresso machine review video. See what features you really want and those you can do without. I’m pretty sure that breville you linked is often on sale for much cheaper than what crate and barrel has it.
40g at 15/1 ratio at 205° Pour 300g of water through. Close it. 300g of water and let it sit for three minutes before opening.
5 days in and I think my quality surpasses what I get at Starbucks. When I started with the machine’s default settings using local beans (Peace Coffee) it was producing 15g of grind -> 122g of espresso which was terribly weak. I brought the dosage up to 18g and now I’ve been playing around with the grind. Yesterday I got it down to a lungo 1:3 with 18g -> 54g which was pretty good. This morning I got to 18g -> 27g which is right between a ristretto and espresso and it was damn good. My milk frothing needs further work but it’s making progress.
Just signed up for the light and bright sub. Woke up this morning and only had the beans I bought from Walmart. Local bag, but roasted back in June of last year so not a great cup. Saw this post. Life is too short for shit coffee. Let’s ride
