Waiting to try to hit Botz this time. pratyk , got the melodrip floating over the Omni dripper. I’ve found one thing I think helps. After grinding I pause it and take the Omni off and shake the grounds to an even bed. Don’t think the agitation works well enough to do that, but helps with bloom when done there. Easier to pause before it moves back to the water column area.
Snagged a bag from Sightglass when in San Francisco this weekend. The free cup of drip was good, so excited to break open the beans tomorrow.
same bags back to back was also a common occurrence during my atlas sub starting an intelligencia sub next month so hopefully that isn’t the case with them
Bold Bean February order got delivered to the wrong address. Appears the assholes didn’t put back in the mailbox as delivered to wrong address. Annoying.
I don’t think I’ve ever done this. I look up the address and if it’s nearby, I drop it off. Which come to think of it- seems like the only scenario I’ve encountered.
Also ordered a Gesha from Little Waves, and trying another Edwin Norena Castillo. Going to be a good month.
The 72 hour carbonic maceration scares me lol. Hope it’s a good roast because those tasting notes sound ridiculous.
That’s where the fruity notes come in on this one I think. I’ve been impressed with anything I’ve gotten from that producer and roaster combo. https://www.baristamagazine.com/understanding-the-process-carbonic-maceration/ I did laugh at the blind assessment on that one. “ Blind Assessment Floral-toned, very, very sweet. Tea rose, candied apple, agave syrup, dark chocolate, orange marmalade in aroma and cup. Gently brisk acidity; creamy-smooth mouthfeel. Citrusy finish with undertones of tea rose.” https://littlewaves.coffee/products/edwin-enrique-norena-castillo-natural-colombia
Been seeing a lot on rising coffee prices but can’t say I’ve seen any impact to my little waves sub (or the fellow drop texts I still get). Anyone seeing increases in cost yet?
Not for me either. Not sure how far in advance roasters buy greens - maybe they're still working with old stock? I've also heard Ethiopians are going to be scarce. I've been buying more of that lately
Little Waves is on the Apple TV Series Omnivore, on the coffee episode talking about sourcing and roasting. https://tv.apple.com/in/episode/coffee/umc.cmc.5emuf42mp6chrcgwvwxb955dq
This post was from a long time ago but I stumbled across the recipe as posted by someone who works there and figured I'd post it. Each capsule is a total 1.5 grams. 1.1 grams of magnesium sulfate, .3 grams calcium citrate and .1 grams of sodium chloride. https://www.home-barista.com/water/third-wave-water-t44736.html
Question about caffeine content: I've been making cold brew at home and trying to monitor my caffeine intake. Typically I steep it for about 18 hours. How close does that come to maximum extraction on the beans?
Finally getting into nicer coffee at home. Baratza Encore & Origami Air S. Been using both conical and wave filters and enjoying the process of dialing in recipes. No subscriptions yet. Starting with local Colorado roasters before branching out. Sweet Bloom is current favorite roaster.
We're going to Denver tomorrow for the next few days and saw Sweet Bloom as a recommendation, even more excited to try it out now
