This was always the argument for going to college though. He was on track to be able to reclassify and thus instead of playing HS ball would get the exposure similar to Zion and maybe get the NIL stuff and go straight to the draft. The Ypsi stuff may have screwed with the academics and maybe he couldn’t reclassify. The new Overtime League age limit though is for 16-18 so it does target him. So if he goes pro that is the only option as he has said he doesn’t want to go overseas. If it isn’t Overtime I still think he does a year in college if he can reclassify. Would think Duke/Michigan/Kentucky would be landing spots.
he's going to need to commit somewhere rather quick then if he reclassifies then no? Rosters are filling up and this portal stuff is causing all kinds of roster fuckery
I think his plan was always to reclassify in the summer. Given he laid out that college is still a option would imagine programs that feel they have a shot would wait.
Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up at another program. I think Watts leaving and the dust-up with Akins probably was the final nail.
Perhaps Watts leaving made Bates realize that MSU is not the place to be if your goal is to brick the most 26 foot jumpers every game. His dad starting Ypsi prep and coaching him himself is going to end up costing him a lot of money *Chet was miles better than him when they went head to head and Akins was the only player on Ypsi prep that looked like he knew how to play basketball. You can find my post on this topic in this thread
Yeah, a lot more of the recruiting folks are starting to lock in their predictions. Congrats he looks like he is going to be really fun to watch.
this is me with pretty much every recruit of ours atm remembered seeing a thread on ic a few days ago talking up his highlights, looks to fit the mold Hubert's been selling for sure
Sounds like no one hired Tre Mitchell's step dad, so he is FSU or Texas right now. Would be a big pickup.
Bates could really use a year under an ass kicker type college coach, he’d probably only last 2 weeks in that scenario though
