It's only been one year but I like forward to Michigan being back. I think Michigan ran in to where Minnesota was after we had a series of one and done players (Kessel, Okposo, etc) before Lucia changed his recruiting to focus on more four year players. We've been more consistent but we've lacked a pure goal scorer like Vanek and Kessel.
Its been more than 1 year, its been the better part of a decade tbh. Last year was an anomaly of absurd NHL talent that masked severe deficiencies.
Michigan plays an antiquated style of hockey that worked with great talent. I think our roster next year can compete for a spot in the tournament with a guy like Pearson. If Red is the one coaching the team though, we will be last in the B1G.
Look at Michigan's CORSI. We don't control the puck ever. The only teams worse than us were Arizona State and Alaska Anchorage. Even with the CCM line a few years back, when we ran into North Dakota we constantly were playing without the puck.
Perhaps the presence of an actual goaltender with help some but still there are deep rooted issues that are only gonna change when Red leaves.
If Denver brings their A game and barring any fluke bounces or referees getting in the way, they will be the National Champs. UMD will try and muck it up and get Denver off their game and with their experience I think it will be a pretty good battle. Since the Conference realignment in 2014, here is how each conference has fared in the National Tournament. NCHC-17 teams advanced to tournament, 24-15 record and 2 National Titles. Hockey East-18 teams advanced to tournament, 18-17 record and 1 National Title. ECAC-12 teams advanced to tournament, 9-11 record and 1 National Title. Big Ten- 7 teams advanced to tournament, 5-7 record and 0 National Titles. WCHA-6 teams advanced to tournament, 2-6 record and 0 National Titles. AHA-4 teams advanced to tournament, 2-4 record and 0 National Titles.
He's going to be a terror. Something will have gone horribly wrong with him if you get more than two.
I would be very happy with two. He had the credits to graduate HS early and Lucia gave him the option to play at Minnesota this year. But, he decided to stay home to try to win a state title with the kids he grew up playing hockey with. Its probably the only time I've ever cheered for EP.
Alabama-Huntsville has a team. UNLV is in the process of moving their Club Team Program to Division 1 status.
We (South Carolina) have club and compete against schools like clemson/tennessee/uga but I believe the skill level is pretty low
Looks like they play division 3. Not sure how much difference there is in the 3 levels of club hockey other than finances and some teams have different participation levels on a year to year basis, although some of the D1 Club Teams actively recruit and have some decent sized budgets. I know Florida Gulf Coast University fields 2 teams(1 in d2 and 1 in d3) http://achahockey.org/view/achahockey
Probably about right. I know those teams schedule each other on occasion. My cousin finished up his high school career last year and went to a few USHL, ACHL, and MJHL tryouts last summer. Could have played in the Manitoba league but decided against it. Looked into playing club hockey at the University of Jamestown(his girlfriend is going to school their next year and playing volleyball) which is a smaller private school in North Dakota who just started their D1 Club program this year and finished ranked #18(not eligible for post season this year). They actually hired a coach who had been a head coach in the ECHL for 5 years to start their program. He told my cousin that most of his kids would have a year or 2 of juniors before playing at Jamestown. He ended up going to UND and playing on their division 2 club team.
Mel is bringing in Bill Muckalt as an assistant. This is fun news considering I would have talked myself into Bill as the head man.
Not happening unless there is an unknown donor out there ready to drop $100 mil to help build a new rink.
Apparently we sold our soul to 3M. "Naming rights to Mariucci arena are part of 3M’s new 14-year, $11.2 million sponsorship of Gophers athletics, the school announced Monday morning. The Gophers’ men’s hockey arena will now be known as 3M Arena at Mariucci."
It's going to be really cool when Illinois moves to D1 because then I can tell everyone I played D1 at Illinois and never have to clarify that it was club. Real win IMO
Same. In 10-15 years no one will ever know it used to be Club. Going to hang my jerseys up in my basement
Pretty excited that a good friend of mine's kid recently committed to play hockey at North Dakota. have known the kid since he was born and know how much time and how hard he works at his game and to see it pay off is pretty cool. He doesn't even have a drivers license yet and hasn't played a high school game yet. He was starting to pop up on the radar and then went to the 2002's Select Camp in Buffalo and had a good camp with a couple big hits that went viral among the college coaches. When camp was over he had offers from Minnesota, Duluth, Denver, Omaha, Miami, St. Cloud, W. Michigan, Northern Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan St., Wisconsin, Boston College, Notre Dame, and Boston U. My friend kind of kept me in the loop all through the process as it really started to pick up after a tournament in the Twin Cities in February.
