<Mora impression> Win the conference? Win the conference? We're just trying to win a game. </mora impression>
College refs are way too trigger happy with majors. Fun series with the Gophs but too many power plays.
Soccer refs allow more contact than this game has, clean hit results in another major and 2 more goals
I see why they called the first but I was surprised by it being 5. The second definitely deserved it. That is how players get paralyzed.
Current breakdown of NCAA bracketology. UMD vs. Canisius Providence vs. North Dakota* Denver vs. Bemidji State Penn St. vs. Mass-Lowell* Boston U. vs. Cornell* Western Michigan v. Union Harvard vs. Boston College* Minnesota vs. St. Cloud State UND and Mass-Lowell were flipped to avoid first round conference matchups as were Cornell and Boston College. I could also see them flipping the Penn St. vs. Mass-Lowell game with the Western Michigan vs. Union game. If this held, I would predict UMD, DU, BU, and SCSU to make it to Chicago. Last teams in and hoping for no conference tournament upsets...Cornell and Boston College Teams on the bubble with a little work to do....Ohio St., Vermont, Neb Omaha, Notre Dame
Updated Bracketology (from USCHO): East Regional (Providence): 14 Boston College vs. 3 Harvard 11 Union vs. 8 Providence Northeast Regional (Manchester): 13 Cornell vs. 4 Minnesota 12 St. Cloud State vs. 5 Boston University Midwest Regional (Cincinnati): 15 Air Force vs. 2 Denver 9 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 7 Western Michigan West Regional (Fargo): 16 Bemidji State vs. 1 Minnesota-Duluth 10 North Dakota vs. 6 Penn State
B1G Update: With Penn State sweeping Wisconsin last week, PSU has jumped back in to the race. That really raises the stakes with the first place Gophers traveling to Happy Valley this weekend. The Gophers final stretch is very favorable with home series against Wisconsin and Michigan State and a road trip to Michigan. Penn State's remaining schedule is also manageable @ Michigan & @MSU and home against Wisconsin. Wisconsin is right in the race but has by far the most difficult schedule with road series at Minnesota and PSU as well as home against OSU. If Penn State is going to make a run at the title, this is their chance. If the Gophers manage a split (which is my prediction) they are set up very well to win another B1G Title. The B1G looks like a 2-3 bid league unless Wisconsin can make a run from #21. They have the tough schedule to make up ground but I doubt it happens. For Minnesota, a split against PSU would likely lock them in to a 1-2 seed unless they collapse down the stretch. PSU is in good shape but due to a weaker SoS needs to keep wining. Ohio State's schedule sets up well to go on a winning streak and secure an at-large berth. They sit at 14 in the PWR and their remaining series are @ MSU, Mich, MSU, @ Wisc. My guess is they go 6-2 down the stretch with a split @ Wisc and 5-1 in the other 6.
I still can't believe that game last night. We definitely stole one but damn that was an exciting third period. Gophers tie the game at 2-2 with 2:11 to go. Penn State takes the lead with 1:26 to go on a penalty shot (that crowd reaction is awesome). Minnesota answers with 3.5 seconds to go and then wins in OT.
Pairwise Predictor: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/probabilityMatrix.php This weekend appeared to lock up spots for Harvard & Minnesota (in addition to Duluth and Denver who had already locked in spots according to the predictor). Western Michigan, BU and Union are right there too with a 99% or greater chance of making it.
Not really related but I really like Buccigross's hats and want one. Easier for me to excuse the purchase when it's going to charity.
UND with the W tonight. Need about 4 more to lock up a spot. got back from Grand Forks a little while ago. While there, this happened right in front of where I sit.
I really enjoyed watching the guy without a stick chase him and then trying to block a potential pass.
For UND to get in this year and have a chance to repeat they are going to have to win 2 games in a row at some point during their next 5 to 7 games. They have to win either 4 of 6 or 5 of 7(if playoff series goes 3). Here is how it shapes up right now. Who's in (9): DU, UMD, Harvard, Minnesota, WMU, UM-Lowell, BU, Union, Cornell Barring any additional conference tournament upsets and accounting for the AHA and WCHA taking the 15th and 16th spots in the tourney through auto-bids you have the following 9 teams fighting for 5 spots. *might only be 4 spots as Boston College is very capable of winning the Hockey East tourney. #19 Vermont--hosts #44 Maine..... #17 Neb-Omaha--hosts #1 Denver #16 UND--at #29 Miami #15 Ohio St.--hosts #53 Sparty, at #13 Bucky #14 SCSU--hosts #36 Colorado College #13 Wisconsin--at #9 Penn St., hosts #15 Ohio St. #12 Providence--hosts #58 UMass #9 Penn St.--hosts #13 Bucky, at #40 Michigan #11 Notre Dame--regular season complete still a lot of volatility among these teams. Vermont will need to sweep Maine and win their first round game just to possibly get to 14...need some help. UNO with a sweep could move to 11 and a split would put them at 15 which would mean they would have to advance in the playoffs. UND--a sweep could get them to 11 and a split could get them to 14. Ohio St.---good news is 4 wins could vault them to 9 but 3 wins could leave them as low as 14. SCSU--need a sweep to stay in the 12-14 range. Bucky--4 wins could move them as high as #8 but 3 wins could leave them at 13. Wisconsin is in position to wreak havoc on the number of teams the B10 will get in. Providence--a sweep keeps them at 12-14, 1 loss and they will need help Penn St.--probably the most volatile team due to many low quality non conference games, 4 wins could get them to #5 but 1 win could drop them to 14. Notre Dame--will need to at least move forward in conference tourney.
SCSU is in an interesting place. As of today, their PWR would put them in the tournament but because they are under .500 they wouldn't get to go. They need a sweep to get to the right side of .500.
Updated Bracketology: http://www.uscho.com/bracketology/ East Regional (Providence): 13 Wisconsin vs. 3 Harvard 12 Providence vs. 8 Union Northeast Regional (Manchester): 15 Bemidji State vs. 4 Minnesota 10 Cornell vs. 7 Boston University Midwest Regional (Cincinnati): 14 Ohio State vs. 2 Minnesota-Duluth 11 Notre Dame vs. 5 Western Michigan West Regional (Fargo): 16 Canisius vs. 1 Denver 9 Penn State vs. 6 Massachusetts-Lowell Conference breakdowns Big Ten — 4 Hockey East — 4 ECAC Hockey — 3 NCHC — 3 WCHA — 1 Atlantic Hockey – 1 Movement In: Canisius, Wisconsin, Notre Dame Out: Air Force, St. Cloud State, Boston College
High school hockey! SCSU commit Micah Miller scores the double-OT winner to send Grand Rapids to the state tournament.
When was the last time a team ranked #1 in January missed the NCAA tournament? Penn State about to do that.
As of now, PSU is #13 and OSU is #14 in the pairwise. At least two conference tourney winners will take away at-large berths which leaves a maximum of 14 at-large teams. The B1G tourney is going to be very important for PSU & OSU. Ohio State gets MSU and then Wisconsin. PSU gets Michigan and then Minnesota. Both probably need to win 2 to feel confident.
I remember when it was fun to participate in this thread. Really hope Red hangs it up. It's been time for a while now. I really want one of Mel Pearson, Rick Bennett or Jeff Blashill (I am assuming the Wings dump him).
“The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”....sincerely, North Dakota Hockey. UND at least in a pretty good position to make the tourney but probably not a serious contender to make much noise this year.
Any of those would be a great get for Michigan. Red is a legend but the time eventually comes to step aside. I hear he stayed on this year so the new Michigan A.D. wouldn't have to deal with a new coaching hire right away.
One weekend left. WCHA just has a 1 game winner take all next weekend with Bowling Green traveling to play at Michigan Tech. These teams are #37 and #28 in the pairwise so the winner is taking a spot and leaving 15 remaining. AHA has 4 teams left and although Air Force could conceivably play themselves into top 15 which is where they are currently ranked, Army #38, #Robert Morris #26 and Canisius #25 are the others left and in all likelihood the winner of this tournament also swipes a top 16 spot which leaves 14 for everyone else. NCHC has 3 teams that are already in(DU #1, UMD #2, WMU #4) and UND #11 who has a 86% chance of making the tourney even with 2 losses next weekend. So there are 4 spots gone leaving us with 10. The ECAC has 2 teams that are in(Harvard #3 and Union #7) and Cornell at #9 who would need an unlikely set of circumstances for them to drop out. if your team is on the bubble you do not want to see last years runner-up Quinnipiac win this as they currently are at #20 and have to win to get in. 3 spots gone which leaves 7. Hockey East has 3 teams in the field with #6 BU, #8 Mass-Lowell, and #10 Notre Dame and Providence who isn't in the final 4 but is currently #12 and are pretty secure. If #16 BC wins this that would swipe another spot. So 4 or 5 spots gone which leaves us with 2 or 3. In the Big 10, only Minnesota is a lock, currently at #5. Wisconsin needs to win the tourney to get in and Penn St. and Ohio St. would both be in with first round wins if every other conference goes chalk or at least if teams outside the top 16 don't win Hockey East, Big 10, and ECAC IN for sure DU UMD Harvard WMU Minnesota Union Lowell Notre Dame All but in Cornell North Dakota Providence Plus the AHA and WCHA winners and you have 3 spots left for Penn St. --probably just need to beat Michigan Ohio St. --probably just need to beat Sparty Wisconsin--need to win conference BC--need to win conference Quinnipiac--need to win conference
Dean Blais is stepping down at UNO. http://www.omavs.com/ViewArticle.db...11520727&_ga=1.38215523.1330966408.1488222628
Legend. Didn't see eye to eye with new administration at UNO. Wonder if Trev Alberts is looking to leave as well? Plenty of names out there to replace Blais. Mike Guentzel, Mike Hastings, Cary Eades, Dane Jackson, George Gwozdecky, Rob Facca. I wonder if they will pay enough to get a name coach? That is 4 jobs open now. UNO, Northern Michigan, RPI, Niagara.....possibly Michigan and New Hampshire?
Pavel Datysuk's agent is being a cunt on Twitter for some reason I just can't imagine this moron knowing shit
We have the dumbest player I've ever watched in Dean Healey. Guy has had 2 suspensions this year and had at least 4 cheap shots today(got away with the first 3) before he got a major and game for a head shot on Wisconsin's captain. Our attack is legit and PP is out of this world but got this idiot and a meh defense.
Wow, Penn State won. Quit paying attention after we lost, quite the up and down season for Penn State.
Unless I'm missing something, it looks like Ohio State is going to get the last spot. Congratulations. Welcome to the tournament.
