I really hope its Illinois. Looking at the other good ACHA programs without a D1 team maybe Arizona? Colorado?
In keeping with the thread title...Western Hockey is doing all right. Non Conference records so far. NCHC 31-13-5 Big 10 22-16-3 WCHA 19-21-3 ECAC 15-17-1 Hockey East 19-22-2 Atlantic 5-22-2
The Gophers beat the Badgers 3-2 last night. All 3 Gopher goals came within the 74 seconds and the first one was something you don't see often.
Rabid I hope you guys go easy on us this weekend. We're without our top scorer and one of our better defensemen.
thank god Primeau and Madden are back from their Team USA duties Northeastern got shutout by Merrimack 1-0 on Saturday night. I believe the Huskies had beaten them 16-3 in the two games prior to that. But then take away Madden and you see what happens. Had to scrap to beat RPI and UA-Huntsville in their absence a couple games with Maine this weekend
UMass absolutely thrashed Northeastern 6-1 in Amherst on Friday but the Huskies bounced back with a 2-1 OT W in front of a sellout crowd at Matthews Arena. Tyler Madden with the GW goal Hockey East standings in spoiler below. Providence really disappointing so far Spoiler
Welp. It is time for the offensively challenged team formerly known as the Fighting Sioux to make a move or look for an autobid in the NCHC tourney...if they can make it there. Need to somehow win 5 of next 8 to get into the at large bid pool. And then not step on their dick the last 2 weekends at Colorado College and home for Omaha. The next 8 #1 SCSU this weekend at home at #3 Denver next weekend at #13 Western Michigan #4 UMN at home The landscape of college hockey has definitely changed which isn't a bad thing. The College Hockey Blue Blood rankings. 3. Denver 21. North Dakota 24. Michigan 25. Boston U 26. Minnesota 30. Wisconsin 39. Boston College I think you would have to go back quite a ways to find a year that at least 3 of those teams were not in the tournament.
UM will be fine. They lack 1st line scoring talent this year to finish but the system has yielded lots of pressure and shots just haven't been able to put them in the net. Additionally they've gotten inconsistent goaltending. However, in the last couple weeks they've won games at ND, at OSU and just spanked PSU so maybe they can get hot and go on a run. Wasting Hughes, the best player in college hockey, is unfortunate but I have complete faith in Mel going forward.
This sounds familiar for UND as well. Outshooting teams on average of 33-22. Winning 59% of faceoffs....we basically have the puck all night but we don't do anything with it other than beat up the goalies chest.
Wisconsin 4 (on 46 shots) Minnesota 9 (on 27 shots) The Gophers had 6 3rd period goals with no empty net goals. We had good looks on a lot of our shots but I can't recall ever seeing 1/3rd of our shots hit the net. Highlights:
Split with #1 SCSU over the weekend. Got outplayed badly on Friday night but should have went to the 3rd period with a 1-0 lead. Thought the wheels would come off in the 3rd but it was still 1-1 with 6 minutes to go. Took it too them pretty good on Saturday night 5-1...end of game was interesting as things boiled over from the knee to knee hit that ended Grant Mishmash's season on Friday night. Schuldt who made the hit on Friday night chose not to answer the bell when called which led to a few skirmishes in the last 3-4 minutes. The penalty box looked like a clown car when it emptied after the game on Saturday night.
1-2-1 halfway through this stretch. Looking like after a 16 or 17 year run of making the tourney it will be 2 years in a row on the outside looking in.
Northeastern has lost 4 of 5 heading into tonight's Beanpot matchup vs BU at TD Garden BC vs Harvard at 2 PM PT BU vs NU at 5 PM PT All games on NESN
kind of a frustrating season for the Northeastern men....losing to UConn right after beating BU at The Garden. But with four league games remaining the women just need one more point (or a BC loss/tie) to clinch the outright league title the second time in history. Hell of a season some seriously impressive freshmen on that squad (Alina Mueller is insanely good)
That is how our season has gone as well. One good game and one terrible game per weekend. In fact, that was the way the last series with PSU went.
Honestly, I would guess Minnesota fans are more likely to blame Barry Alvarez than anybody. Obviously the WCHA never gets dismantled without a 6th B1G team but you can’t fault PSU for wanting to join the fun. I think we were the only school to vote against a B1G conference and from what I recall it was rumored was Barry was a big advocate. I personally have no gripes and I think our attendance and fan interest decline has more to do with jacking the price up/adding seat donation requirements at the same time as the conference changed. It was very unfortunate timing.
I think the best thing about uno being horrible this year is that I had planned to buy season tickets and forgot.
Northeastern leading BC 2-0 after 2 periods on the verge of a second straight Beanpot title after going so long without one.... Jim Madigan gonna get lured away? He played for NU and has as many ties to the school as anyone so it would be hard to pry him away. But surely someone will make an effort right? high graduation rates, Beanpot titles, Hobey Baker award winners, Team USA team members, NCAA Tourney appearances. He's so good
