Gaudette won the Hobey Baker First in Northeastern history to do so. First time NU has had 3 First Team All-Americans as well with Gaudette, Sikura and Davies
I don't know if we actually have any Minnesota Duluth fans in here, but CONGRATS to all our #Minnesota Duluth fans. Super fun year. I'm a total bandwagon hockey fan, but these last two seasons reminded me why I love the sport so much
Thanks friend! Tonight I learned that the B16 does have a hockey team that could finish above .500 in the NCHC. Great season ND... No shame losing to the state of hockey's powerhouse program.
Congrats to fellow NCHC(National Champions Hockey Conference) member UMD on their 2nd national title. Most seasons only 1 team can say they won their final game of the season. It is of small consolation that this season, in a rarity, their were 2 teams in college hockey that won their final game of the season as UND's final game was a 4-1 victory over the eventual National Champs. Just shows you how small the margins have become in college hockey as this is the 3rd time in the last 8-9 years that the last team to make the tournament has gone on to win it.
It is funny the way things work out but a game that put UMD in to the tournament was Notre Dame beating OSU in OT of the B1G championship game and (along with Denver over SCSU) jostling the #12 &13 PWR teams.
I was looking at our commitment list for future years and apparently these two kids are committed. Cruz and Chaz Lucius. They are as young as they look. Cruz turned 14 last week.
Are they letting him bring in his own assistant coaches? I heard that was a hang-up with the Coaches who turned down the Anchorage job in that they were told they had to choose from a pool of "diverse' assistants. Wasn't sure if it was a State issue or an Alaska-Anchorage issue
Sadly it is getting to be that way. They are verbal commitments which really don't mean much. If the kid changes his mind there is nothing binding and if they don't develop as expected the school isn't obligated on their end either. This has led to some schools over recruiting. It does seem as though the College Hockey Coaches are starting to stop the unofficial "Gentlemen's Agreement" which has led to kids changing commitments. The problem stems from the Canadian Major Junior Leagues drafting kids at 15 and they could start playing in Canada at 16 which then forfeits their college eligibility.
Oliver wahlstrom to bc and word from um hockey insiders is that um is fairly confident jack Hughes will accelerate and join um next year if Quinn returns.
A couple years ago UND played Boston College at Madison Square Garden, we play the Gophers in Vegas in October and I have heard they are working on a destination game for 2020 in Nashville! Have heard both Michigan and Penn State rumored as the opponent.

Unfortunately, I don't see it reported elsewhere and the linked story doesn't even confirm what the tweet says.
I played against him every year growing up. We called him Miss Frizzle. Was a bottom pairing D in comp hockey but went to Shattucks and just flipped a switch. Was an NHL prospect but during the combine they detected a heart abnormality and he was forced to retire from hockey immediately. Tampa Bay still selected him in the last round of the draft as a show of goodwill (his older brother Matt was on Tampa and the owner's son went to Shattucks with him). Cool story
It looks like we will have a new #1. The Gophers and UMD tied 1-1 on Saturday in Duluth and then the Gophers won 7-4 in Minneapolis tonight. Not a bad start to the Motzko era.
We are in the WCHA reunion portion of our schedule right now. -Home and Home with Bemidji State this weekend. -Mankato comes in for 2 next weekend -Hall of Fame Game against the Rodents in Vegas on the 27th! -The Badgers are in Grand Forks 11/2 and 11/3. Going to be an interesting season for UND. D-corps is solid and our forwards play a pretty good puck possession game but we need some guys to put the puck in the net.
Northeastern started the season with a 5-2 win at Sacred Heart last night. Freshman Tyler Madden is gonna be really really fun to watch over the next few years. 3rd rounder by the Canucks this past June. Madden was 14/21 on face-offs and got his first career goal. His game is very similar to Sikura's BU with a 4-3 loss at Minnesota St last night. BC with a 3-0 loss at Wisconsin. I heard their freshman class is supposed to be ridiculously good U18 US National Team is in town to play BU and Harvard next week, might have to check those games out
Rough weekend for UND and as predicted had trouble putting the puck in the net. Not putting too much into it as Bemidji is always a tough match up as it is their Super Bowl weekend and they don't really play to beat you, they just dump it in and hope you get impatient trying to get through their trap and that they get away with a little obstruction and interference along the way although with our power play it wouldn't matter. Only bright spot of the game on Saturday night came with about 3 minutes left in regulation when they put up the winning 50/50 number. Good timing and nice to have an extra 5k for Las Vegas next weekend!
The Gophers beat them 7-1 on Saturday but it was 2-1 at the 2nd intermission. I think they beat Michigan on Friday night so we had the fresh legs.
Very cool of the Gophers to go play the U18 team at their rink and also very shrewd scheduling to play them at noon on Saturday after they played Michigan the night before and the Gophers had an off day.
saw Union play at Northeastern this past weekend. Tyler Madden with another solid weekend get to see St Cloud State on Saturday College Hockey Alumni Rise in Prominence in the N.H.L. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/20/sports/hockey/nhl-college-coaches.html
