It is early but here is a look at conference win percentage: B1G: .739 NCHC: .654 ECAC: .568 HEA: .421 WCHA: .361 AHC: .261 Current top 10 1. Notre Dame 2. St. Cloud State 3. UMD 4. Ohio State 5. Minnesota 6. Providence 7. Mankato State 8. Cornell 9. Denver 10. Penn State Western hockey looks pretty dominant right now. Edit: Michigan and Wisconsin are 12 & 14 as well which puts 6 of the 7 B1G teams in the top 14 (for now).
Clearly! On the ice, not only does the NCHC have the best nonconference winning percentage (.624) during the past five years (nobody else is higher than .565), it also has won three consecutive NCAA national championships. In 2016, UND won the NCAA national championship. It only played one game that was within three goals -- it came against conference foe, Denver, in the semifinals. In 2017, Denver won the NCAA championship. The Pioneers only played one game within three goals -- it came against conference foe, Minnesota Duluth, in the championship. In 2018, Minnesota Duluth won the NCAA championship. Although the Big Ten put three teams in the NCAA Frozen Four, it was the Bulldogs who came out on top. That aside, the Big 10 is definitely trending up. When the shakeup happened it just coincided with Michigan and Wisconsin, 2 long time powers that were both garbage when the B10 Conference started while 7 of the 8 NCHC teams had made the tournament the year before. It will be interesting now that Ohio State is putting together a strong program and Penn State obviously is all in on being a winner, Minnesota is Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin have righted the ship and adding Notre Dame to the mix makes for a very strong league. Vegas this weekend for UND and Minnesota! Probably be 10-15000 UND fans in Vegas for the weekend, the pregame/during game/post game tailgate on Saturday looks to be a good time. http://theralph-2014.production.carbonhouse.com/assets/doc/PregameInformation-f7e23683d7.pdf Top golf on Friday night, Sportsbook on Sunday for NFL games...should be a fun weekend all around. Going to see a bunch of old college friends and hopefully not lose too much cash, although winning the 50/50 raffle at the UND game on Saturday for a little over 5k will help offset some losses and paid for the trip!
So far check-ins from UND alum for the weekend in Vegas 41 states 5 Canadian Provinces England Mexico Japan
lol looks like St Cloud State won at BC 7-0 tonight. BC Twitter didn't even post a final score I believe it is parents weekend at Northeastern so there will be a packed house for that game on Saturday night
How is BC suddenly horse shit? I'm not going to verify but I believe I heard a stat earlier this week that they haven't won a non-conference game since the 2016-17 season.
they lost one guy to graduation and no one to the NHL. 3 members of their freshmen class were teammates last year in the USNT Development Program. Wahlstrom was the 11th overall pick over the summer... And yet, that is 120 minutes without a goal on the heels of a 7-5 defeat at Wisconsin I understand BU and Northeastern getting off to slow starts. BC should be good this year. I mean they were preseason favorites in the league
It looks like BC has been shut out 3 of 4 games this year. The amazing thing is that they scored 5 in the other game.
Good game tonight. I thought it was going to be one of those nights that UMD out shoots its opponent 2-1 but just can't bury anything.
With an alumni network as vast and distinguished as North Dakota’s you would think their TV distribution would extend to the Twin Cities. Too bad, I was excited to watch tonight.
UMD sweeps Notre Dame. I'm guessing that'll move the Bulldogs back up to #1, not that it means much this early.
I just discovered I have the game via ch 999 on Comcast. I have a sports package included in my package but I didn’t think it would include this.
Northeastern with a 3-2 W over St Cloud State. Fell behind 2-0 in the first before rallying for the final three scores of the game
0-0 16:21 to go in the 2nd but Minnesota is about to start a 5 minute power play with 5/3 for the first 2.
I was drinking the 3 Floyd’s and Surly (Bender) in the tailgate lot but they do have Surly Furious in limited locations within the stadium.
Halfway through the game and we’ve had at least 3 stoppages to fix the glass. The announcers can’t stop talking about Edina hockey. You would think Lou Nanne was announcing.
Wow buddy that’s a game changer. Probably going to make the trip out for PSU next year if a Packers home game falls on that Sunday after.
Midco commercials are worse than early BTN (Rotel every commercial block). I’m seeing things for Grand Forks liquor stores and something that tries to lure me in with the opening line “how many times have you wondered if you already took your pills today?”
Lol. Oh, I loved Aggie Vision. The production quality is definitely better than Aggie Vision. It feels like I’m watching tv rather than early internet. The commercials are probably similar but it’s hard to recall.
2nd period was 1-1 but Minnesota was definitely on its heels most of the period. North Dakota took a 5 on 3 (check from behind coupled with too many men on the ice) and the Gophers scored 22 seconds in but the rest of the power play looked neutral rather than 5 on 4. North Dakota dominated puck control after that and at one point Minnesota took 3 icing calls in 2 minutes.
2-1 UND with 5 to go. This is a credit to UND but the Gophers look shitty and unorganized for the last 2 periods.
Was not me. Great weekend in Vegas. UND played well and got the win which at the end of the day is just a regular season non conference win but the event was great. The pre game party was fun and the game atmosphere was great although the arena is a little dated. It is funny though that no matter how much our Alumni office tries to warn the pre game hosts of what is about to hit them they either don't believe it or just can't prepare for the event at "gamespeed" . The battle was lost once again in the first half hour as they were understocked, understaffed and just not ready for that many drunks showing up and end up scrambling as all the stands run out of beer and booze and it is an uphill battle after that. Next destination game is being finalized for Nashville in 2020 against Penn State. Heading to the airport in about an hour to grab the red eye back to Minneapolis.
Yeah. A lot of people weren't happy when UND gave up their FCS TV contract for the good of the NCHC conference CBS Sports deal and the online NCHC TV platform.
BU @ Northeastern tonight yesterday UConn's board approved a $45 million on-campus facility. It'll only be 2,500 seats though which is problematic. Their AD has some quotes about the capacity being decreased just so they could get funding to build something. Tough times in that state http://www.courant.com/sports/hc-sp-benedict-thoughts-hockey-arena-20181031-story.html
Northeastern with a disappointing 5-5 tie vs BU last night. Led 3-2 going to the third period. The crowd was incredible. Matthews Arena is one of the best venues in all of college sports The two square off at BU tomorrow night BC with a couple games vs Merrimack this weekend. Should be a couple easy wins for them but let's see how that goes
