Wooo weee the team has some tough ones. Sherrod and Quay Miller are real, and Fromann is a great ft option at the end of the game. Iowa is going to be a problem but why the fuck not steal that too.
going to be very interesting to see what we do in the portal. Be nice if we had Bobi Klintman on the roster! SMH
Lovering is a mediocre C right now, but its still not an ideal loss (without seeing replacements). Mostly because he was a positive on defense, and because he could actually play a passable C on that end (with no others on the team capable of that). So now the first freed up spot needs to be used on a dedicated C, as opposed to a Guard that can shoot or a stretch 4 that can play up as a C in a pinch. Would hope Quincy Allen and Nique are next out the door. That would free up 2 spots for transfers, both of which are needed. If those three were to be the three departures, it would represent losing the 3 worst Box+/- players on the team -- which is probably a good thing.
Knecht fits what the offense desperately needs. Can shoot Scores at all three levels Can create his own shot off the dribble Big guard that can play next to KJ/Hammond Not sure on his defense (but that is something Tad can definitely address), and not sure he will create his shot with the same success against higher-level athletes, but I think he slots in well.
I mean, Lampkin is a solid big body who won't get pushed around by anybody in the country, but Tad better score big on this last roster spot.
I don't know what they can pull sans NIL money, but I definitely still want them to bring in another starter-level talent with the last scholarship (no developmental piece). Seems like a 3-D guard/wing would help, whereas someone like Knecht or TJ Bamba who can create their own shot would be even better. There are plenty of shooters out there worth a review and it seems like Tad is reaching out to a bunch of them, so he better close. I am not going to pretend it is Knecht, but I can cross my fingers anyways.
Bamba and Knecht are the top two choices. Knecht was considered a strong lean to us but when Bill Self calls, it's hard to turn that down.
I am hoping for 20 guys out. 10 are required for the ships, right? Leaves room for 10 new guys as well. This OL feels like a depth piece, but given that depth is a foreign concept to our recent teams that is fine with me.
Though that seemed like a nuts number, but I perused the spring roster, and I feel there's around 15-18 guys we could still purge from the roster and feel ok about. A couple tight ends, a few DT's, a few LBs, A couple O lineman, A couple WRs. Id name names, but I feel like looking at the roster, the good attrition candidates are easy to spot.
