I'm in agreement with you 110% (except maybe the bit about missing STL). It's embarrassing that players/parents have to go and read the shit that gets posted on BS and feel as though it is representative of the fan base. And I'm not even just talking about the way they go off, but the way in which they show that 95% of them know absolutely nothing about college athletics and a lot of the time football in general. It's depressing seeing that our fan base has become this...stupid. So much so that it takes the fun out of chatting about CU football/cfb in general and, even though some will view this as a little dramatic, going to games b/c I'm now much more in tune/aware of the dumb ass shit that people are saying.
Not really other than I hope what lefthand has been saying about guys being sick of shit like last week is true. Coming out and laying down a beating on UMass would quickly help any morale/confidence issues both on the team and with the fan base. Looks like UMass returns most of the guys that did damage versus us last year. Their big QB is back as are two of three top receiving targets. The big TE that scored two TD's is gone, but their main WR (Sharpe) who was 1st Team All MAC and did the most damage last year (outside of the previously mentioned TE) is gone. That said, I would hope that what we saw last week from the defense (much improved play compared with last year) carries over to this week - guys getting pressure on the QB (even if it was mostly McCartney) and the secondary playing well for the most part (outside of the bomb Crawley gave up). I'll be interested to see what Awini looks like in his first game at linebacker. Offensively, if we are going to stick with the shotgun as our primary formation, I hope we stick with Adkins and Lindsay as our #1 and #2 RB's. Powell just isn't effective running out of the shotgun as I've bitched about here numerous times before. Last week just seemed like it proved my concerns about him being a poor fit for this offense right (especially if the coaches won't change things up and run out of the pistol or an I-formation when Powell is in the game). I am hoping that with the game being at home and actually being played at a normal time that the guys are used to, the offense looks a lot more sharp this week. They put up 474 yards vs the UMass D last year so I would hope they are able to do something similar (or surprise us all and improve upon that). Hopefully the OL looks a lot better, Huckins in particular (last week after Kough went down and Huckins moved over to left guard, the OL went to complete shit). If he can't cut it (again), get him out and find someone that can. Sefo needs to start taking that next step and making this his team. I'd ideally like to see him connect with Spruce/Shay for some more explosive (i.e. deep) passes.
I don't think we're THAT bad. It won't be clean and I'm sure UMASS will keep it interesting for awhile, but we should win by 2 scores. Tony Jones was effective against these guys last year. Adkins/Lindsay should have strong games again.
I walked from BS a year or two ago. Will check AB every so often, but that's it. Games are much more enjoyable. I'd recommend it.
Pisses me off that the DirecTV rumor got floated (again) only to have nothing happen (again). If BS is correct, I'm kind of glad we're holding out if rumor that ATT wants a stake in the network is true. At least my buddy just got back to me with his Comcast login so I can stream it. Otherwise I was going to have to go into my office downtown to watch the game (not going to a bar cause I'm studying for the CFA Exam).
BTW, anyone else get a call from the ticket office this week? I haven't heard from them in a couple of years - not since Embree was here when I told them to not to call me until we had something resembling a real coach. They must be pretty desperate to sell tickets b/c they were asking me if I wanted to buy my old season tickets...
I've decided to (at least try to) divorce myself from it this week. I've opened the board link twice this week to check thread titles in case there's anything that could be interesting, but nope. I won't be checking it at all once the game starts. I kind of feel like an alcoholic trying to swear off booze, but fortunately, those people don't provide any enjoyment comparable to getting black-out drunk.
Compared to SEC and B1G networks who have allowed others to have a stake in them, the pac12 network has been a failure.
ESPN took a stake in SEC and FOX in the the B1G - little bit different giving a share to a company whose main business (or one of them) is providing sports content versus giving a share to what is basically a phone/internet telecom. Plus giving ATT a share could screw things up with other cable/satellite companies when contracts have to be renewed (I don't see Comcast/DISH/Verizon/ect being excited at the prospect of handing over $ to a competitor in ATT).
Don't want to clog up your thread. I read the same thing and it looks like it would be more beneficial to the conference and schools to make the ATT deal. The network is not making the money Scott assumed it would. The deal would also help the consumer.
Holy shit, they just handed Powell the ball from under center with a lead block from a fullback (edit: made even better by the fact that he scored a touchdown on the play)
Well then deal is reportedly dead. http://www.insidesocal.com/ucla/2015/09/12/pac-12-reportedly-walks-away-from-directv-att-deal/
I feel like we could go get some 12 yr old at a Punt, Pass, and Kick competition and they'd be better than our current punter...
How does Crawley suck so bad? Hasn't he been starting for like four years straight? You would think he would've learned to play by now...
Why doesn't Lindsay get more love from CU fans? Kid may not have ideal size, but he seemingly always runs hard and plays as if he is Powell's size, dragging guys a lot bigger for a couple extra yards. Throw in the fact that he loves being a Buff and is a great representative for the team/university and it makes me wonder why so many people on BS/Rivals are down on him. As much as I like seeing different guys get carries early in the season, I'd like to see the coaches let one or two guys get into a rhythm early in games. We have already seen Atkins, Lindsay, Powell, and Carr all get multiple carries. You can spread around carries later in the game IF we manage to build a lead.
"So...we're a running team now???" - Things You Did Not Picture Yourself Saying Coming Into This Season
I doubt the line can hold up against bigger teams, but it is just nice to see them bully the UMass D-Line and make some big holes for the backs. I would like to see Carr get a full series or two, particularly if the lead continues to grow. We already killed the redshirt, we might as well give him as much burn as possible with the understanding that we know what Powell offers, and I am not confident that the other backs can remain healthy all year. Tackling has been, umm, poor. But I liked what our D-line has done against the run. Would like to see Gamboa get some time in the second half (once again, if the lead continues to grow) because I just don't know what Gillam is going to offer moving forward.
Powell's run at the end of the 3rd - wow! This is the way I've wanted them to run him for awhile now - getting him going downhill and attacking the defense.
Yeah, that was impressive as hell. The power, yeah, but the power combined with agility, coordination and balance was fun to watch. Bottom line, it's been fun to complain as much as I have (primarily about the secondary in the first half and tackling) in a blowout.
Now my attention shifts to hoping Minnesota can physically beat up CSU a bit here in the second half.
I'm trying to watch the CSU game but everything about it as boring as shit. For all the hype last week about them "not missing a step" without McElwain, I'm not all that impressed. I'll be switching to UGAy/Vandy and OU/TENN post haste.
I missed this earlier - what on God's green Earth were you smoking last yr when you though that and where can I get some?
I thought we weren't going to a bowl, Sefo really wasn't very good (still isn't...), and it would be good to see what - if anything - he could do. I realized quickly that Sefo was significantly better, but I still think letting Gehrke start was the right move.
The one of the biggest variables in punting is the drop of the ball. That's where much of the consistency comes from. Given that Kinney has had to speed up his whole operation of punting the ball from high school, his drop is probably more inconsistent that it normally is. That's why its especially idiotic to have him roll out and punt, because it alters the whole drop phase that much more. Not surprised Kinney shanked that one.
Agreed. We haven't walloped a team like that since ISU back in 2010 under Cabral, and before that some time in 2007. This is a major step in the right direction. It almost seems like the coaches thought we would be more of a pass heavy team this year and tried to be that team against Hawaii. Against Umass, it may be that coaches are figuring out of the identity of this team and let the OL and RBs loose.
I know even less about basketball than I do about football, so I'll defer to Embree/Yung 's assessment.
