If Community gets cancelled I will lose all faith in humanity...I first realized that people were generally stupid when they cancelled Arrested Development but if Community goes down before its time Im going to take a flamethrower to something
It has done okay in comparison to the rest of NBC's lineup, but the #s are pretty meh overall. I remember there were questions last year if it'd get picked back up. Most likely it'll be Parks and Rec that gets cut but at this point Community is in trouble.
who do they give these fucking Niellsen boxes to? I saw that Shit My Dad Says has higher ratings than Community...lolwut
I love 30 Rock...but I'd rather keep Community and Parks...would definitely keep 30 Rock over Office, though (and every other sitcom on tv)
You must be at least 50 to have a Neilsen box. Fuck me. And The Office needs to go. It's easily the worst of the 4 shows (Community, P&R, 30 Rock). But I'm still not sure of how Outsourced made the cut - I know of NO ONE who watches it.
my dvr tapes the first 2 min of the next show so I catch it every week and it is fucking horrible. I can not understand how anyone watches that shit.
wow that is pretty surprising. i can't believe they'd pick up a whole season of outsourced over parks and rec or community.
I was talking to my uncle yesterday about TV shows and comedies and asked him if he ever checked out Community. He told me "Yeah, its just alright." I asked him what he thought was better. He said "Big Bang Theory. Its just a lot smarter. Community seems to be written for a dumber audience, the writing on Big Bang Theory is just very good." I did a facepalm and tried to explain that just the opposite was true, but to no avail. America just doesn't get it, guys. This one will be right up there with Arrested Development and Freaks and Geeks on the "too soon" list. I wish I could do something
Agreed. The Office should sacrifice itself... pretty much every main actor/actress from The Office has done other work because of it. It's done IYAM
Yeah, I sometimes border on audrew film snobbery and my 2nd major in film (I know, ) makes me think I know a lot more about film analysis/history than I probably do. That meant I was thisclose to starting to go apeshit, but realized it wasn't worth getting mad over in the grand scheme of things heh
I like Chuck but could live without it. I will cry if Community gets canceled. I say cancel "The Event".
No way. Community is a pretty good network TV show and doesn't deserve to be cancelled, but there's no way I'd group it with those two shows. I hate when people say the Big Bang Theory is a smart show, only for the fact that it's about intelligent people. The show just banks on obvious humor, from what I've seen at least.
The only good thing about Outsourced. I would not mind if they showed me 22 minutes of her and nobody else.
The thing about a show like community is that there's a lot of "longevity problems" with it. I don't agree with it but points worth noting 1) There's a lot of up and coming stars on it. Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Joel McHale, Alison Brie, and then you have the other people like Danny Pudi and its inevitable that those guys will get movie deals and what not. You could say the same for The Office but Carell was a star already, and Ed Helms was too. Sure, Rainn Wilson got roles, but one star is not as bad as like 4 or 5. Plus, Chevy Chase is a terrible co-worker and will be a pain in the ass soon. 2) The premise of a community college leaves a time crunch. If it's 1 semester = 1 season, then in 2 years the characters would have to at least move on in some respect, and the community college aspect is ruined. You could move them all to the same college, but then you lose big roles for characters like the dean. A show like Outsourced, as terrible as it is, can go on for like 10 years. The temporal aspect kills shows- its why How I Met Your Mother pretty much has to end in 2 seasons or else there's a big time lapse issue and it ruins the premise of the show. As cool as Community is, it can't stay on the air in a real aspect that long. Finally, its too smart for a lot of people. It has a ton of cultural references. At the same token, Community will likely stay on because of the major fan support
Yeah no clue how they're going to keep it going. Maybe it's a community college that offers bachelor degrees?
Maybe the space camp program will help Greendale grow into a full-blown college where they can take over City College?
I was going to say the same thing. They mentioned in the last episode trying to challenge City College, so I agree they will likely try to turn it into a 4-year college.
NBC is worth like $-700 mill so none of this surprises me. Cancel the Office and Outsourced and renew community and find another show worth a shit. From last week: Community - 4.806 million viewers - 2.9/5 HH - 2.2/7 A18-49 Outsourced (29 minutes) - 5.404 million viewers - 3.2/5 HH - 2.6/7 A18-49 I hate this country sometimes.
When Arrested Development gets canceled, Community and P&R struggle, and shows like Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men thrive, I fear for our future.
At least Modern Family seems to have caught on. That is the first well written comedy in forever to achieve good ratings I can think of.
True. I can't believe that Cougar Town reaps the benefits of Modern Family, however. That show is also terrible.
They have mentioned multiple times that Jeff (and I'd assume the others) are going for a FOUR year degree and not a two year degree (thus probably four seasons). For example, there's a line in Modern Warfare while they are sitting around the campfire about Jeff using the priority registration prize to possibly shorten his degree from four years to three. I've never heard of a community college offering a 4 year degree, but I'm fine with the show bending the rules a little. Plus, the real money in TV is in syndacation which occurs after a show reaches 100 episodes. There's probably an example here or there, but I don't think any writer would create, nor production company produce, a show without a 100 episode plan- so the show must have one. As for the comment about Community not being on AD/F&G level... I think its been operating on as high of a comedy level as those shows since about the 2/3 mark of last season with the Chicken Fingers, Modern Warfare, Season Finale, Anthropology, Apollo 13 episodes, etc. Maybe I'm alone in that belief but I think its almost as good as Arrested Development (at least over the last 10-15 episodes)
