I'm all for it. Who do you have in mind? Who are the best LB and DB's available? Shit, I'd even think about another pass rusher. I can't say it enough; can never have too many pass rushers.
and we didn't even have a big ten DL drafted in the first round. as long as he stops letting dmitroff pull that stunt, i'm alright with the drafts.
Jordan Willis? Perhaps Eddie Jackson. Probably a round too early to draft Freddie Stevenson to groom for the FB role...
So Butler is gonna be a Saint or Patriot? I like New Orleans with no capable secondary players, but hopefully the threat of the patriots matching the offer sheet makes them over spend.
My response was going to be "No! That line was complete garbage last year, but it appears he was injured all year."
So McShay most recently mocked Cam Robinson to us. I guess because his run blocking is stronger than his pass blocking he might start off at guard. I'm not crazy about it because pass rush is a greater need but I've watched him every game for three years and he's certainly talented enough.
Its not at the top of my wish list, but we do need to start investing in high end OL talent via the draft. 31 for Robinson is great value and I could see him developing as a start at multiple spots on our line.
That's exactly where my head is too. If the edge guys and linebackers are all gone at 31 and Robinson is there, that's tremendous value. And while we all want to keep building this defense, keeping Matty Ice upright should always be priority #1.
This draft is deep at pass rushers and defensive backs. So we can lock up a solid offensive linemen in the first and then grab a safety, DE, LB, and TE with our next picks.
Feels like this mock pick for the Falcons is becoming more common: 31. Atlanta Falcons T.J. Watt, OLB, Wisconsin: Just feels like the Falcons are going to be a team that takes athletes who are capable of making plays and then putting them in positions to make those plays. Watt fits the bill and obviously has the pedigree. I don't know shit about him. Anyone want to educate me?
I keep looking at the various mocks. The people doing them seem to be trigger happy on pass rushers. The latest CBS mock has 9 OLB/DE taken in the first round. Everyone of the guys we want is taken ahead of us.
this is the mock: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2...lls-trade-into-top-five-to-grab-quarterbacks/ And if we take Watt while Jarrad Davis is on the board I'd probably feel cheated. It seems like Demarcus Walker has fallen down boards. No way he's there for us in the second, right?
Is he less douchey than JJ? That is all that matters. The whole I'm roughing it in a cabin Rocky style then you see the cabin is the most badass cabin ever made me hate JJ.
Nope he's a good player. Instinctive LBer that's always around the ball along with being a good edge rusher. Fits well in our defense imo
Hey guys, we're still doing this mock and I think we should seriously consider safety Tedric Thompson from Colorado
Falcons need to find starting guard with Chris Chester retiring 10:02 AM ET Vaughn McClureESPN Staff Writer Facebook Twitter Facebook Messenger Pinterest Email print comment The Atlanta Falcons certainly weren't taken by surprise when veteran offensive guard Chris Chester told ESPN he plans to retire after 11 seasons. Western Kentucky offensive lineman Forrest Lamp is considered a possible first-round pick who might be ready to start as a rookie. Brian Spurlock/USA TODAY Sports General manager Thomas Dimitroff said he anticipated Chester would retire before the announcement became official. Now the Falcons can shift their focus toward replacing the guy who started at right guard in every game the past two seasons. Is Chester's replacement already on the roster? Possibly, among a trio that includes Ben Garland, Wes Schweitzer, and newcomer Hugh Thornton. But it probably makes more sense to draft a player capable of becoming an immediate starter and the right guard for years to come. The Falcons hold the 31st overall pick in this year's draft and already have been linked to first-round offensive line talents such as Forrest Lamp of Western Kentucky and Cam Robinson of Alabama. Here is how the three internal candidates break down: Garland (6-5, 308) Age: 28 Years of experience: 3 (originally signed with Broncos undrafted out of Air Force) Career games: 24 (0 starts) The breakdown: High-effort player who is tough and physical. Showed great versatility last season as both the backup center and a reserve defensive tackle. Instincts will be an issue being new to playing the guard position. Doesn't have a lot of wear and tear despite age as Garland, who served a two-year military commitment after being signed by Broncos in 2010, has just 87 career offensive snaps. Hugh Thornton (6-3, 320) Age: 25 Years of experience: 3 (drafted by Colts in third round in 2013 out of Illinois) Career games: 37 (32 starts) The breakdown: The Falcons signed Thornton more as insurance than to be a starter. He signed a one-year deal. He has more experience than the other internal candidates, and the word is he still moves well. But Thornton's career has been injured-filled as he was placed on injured reserve three different times with the Colts, including missing all of last season with an ankle injury. Thornton previously struggled with weight issues, and his toughness has been questioned. He has 2,139 career snaps and has started two playoff games. Wes Schweitzer (6-4, 300) Age: 23 Years of experience: 1 (drafted by Falcons in sixth round in 2016 out of San Jose State) Career games: 0 The breakdown: It's hard to say if Schweitzer is prepared to be a starter, because he was inactive for every game during his rookie season. He is known as a smart player who is quick off the ball. Schweitzer is a good run blocker, but he needs to work on his pass protection to become a solid contributor. His lack of NFL game experience has to be a concern for a Falcons team trying to protect reigning MVP Matt Ryan.
I think I want Lamp now at 31. We can get a pass rusher in the 2nd while getting a stud inside next to Mack.
This FoxSports mock I just saw: 1st - Cam Robinson, OT, Alabama 2nd - Marcus Williams, S, Utah 3rd - Larry Ogunjobi, DT, Charlotte
Some scouts are saying it's better for him to start at guard while shoring up his pass pro. I'll allow it
Some Falcons stuff in here: http://www.espn.com/blog/new-englan...ener-unlikely-handicapping-other-best-options
Rob Rang of CBSSports latest Coons mock pick at 31: 31. Atlanta Falcons Budda Baker, FS, Washington: After surrendering a Super Bowl record 466 passing yards to Tom Brady, no one should be surprised if the Falcons opt to reinforce the secondary. At just 5-10, 195 pounds, Baker does not possess ideal size but Dan Quinn has previously been willing to overlook that at free safety with the 5-9, 185-pound Ricardo Allen currently starting in Atlanta. Quinn previously worked with Earl Thomas (5-10, 202) in Seattle. Baker has more range and quickness than Allen, projecting as a traditional centerfielder who can drop down to help at nickel, as well. Budda Baker looks like Dan Quinn’s next center fielder. USATSI
