Imagine this scenario.... Draft Dillard at 14 Draft a Guard in the 2nd Still have a 3rd round pick. I'd guess the difference between random Guard at 14/45 isn't much different and then you have an actual good Tackle and a 3rd pick I can ride my bike to work and will take half the salary of Thomas. Where do I sign?
Lindstrom at 14, ok I’ll give you that one to an extent. I still thought Dillard was the move. Then you trade back up and I’m thinking Sweat or someone to make an impact in pass rush. Nope. Some OT I’ve never heard of. Cool. We will probably have the worst defense in the league.
I get the Lindstrom pick, but I just don't understand trading up for McGary. My only guess is they panicked after Tytus Howard was picked (which was a panic pick by the Texans IMO), and saw another team favoring him over Little, Taylor, and whatever other OT's are on the board.
One of the “benefits” of needing multiple positions is that you should be flexible and not have to panic at any one position. Super deep DL draft, so if there was a run on OTs, we should’ve just said that’s fine and gone with best available DL. It’s like before the draft even started they decided they 100% had to go “OG, OT, ??” In that specific order.
I could see that and even their first pick as panic ones. Was hearing last night that the dolphins had been thinking about trading out of their spot but ended up sticking with it.
And it's easy to get focused on trying to fix the pass rush and can forget that teams didn't have problems running on us last season. That 4.9 ypc was 3rd worst in the league. Really not good when 5.0 and 5.1 were the two worst.
Having slept on it, I feel better about addressing a line that allowed Matty to be sacked the second most times of his career. But I’m still fucking livid that we gave up mid-second and mid-third picks in a draft this deep.
Not at all. Ford and Little still on the board. Plus studs at literally every other position of need.
feels like we could have gotten both while getting extra picks. Or certainly addressed OL need if thats what they were hellbent on doing. Or just lose the last 3 games instead of needing to move up 14 spots to get a Right Tackle. Feels like DImitroff punished us for his abject neglect of OL drafting over the years by spending an extra 3rd that could have gone to a starting CB or DL.
Our defense is not awful by any means but we saw how quickly things went to absolute shit when our stars got hurt. That’s the most concerning thing about failing to address it at all with two first round picks that we sacrificed to obtain.
If we’re saying fuck defense, let’s just boatrace everyone, we need to lean into it and draft David Montgomery or Justice Hill next
Reading the tea leaves, TD must have realized he can't draft anyone that can take down a QB for shit, so he Costanza'd the opposite and drafted to keep his own QB upright. That, and he and Arthur have tickets to the Grand Ole Opry tonight.
We need Matty upright on all of those two minute game winning/losing drives we’re gonna have so o-line was an easy choice.
About the only thing that would make me feel better right now is if we cut Duke Riley for no real reason.
I know these scores don’t matter, but in the ESPN grading, McGary was the 73rd overall prospect, with a grade of 76. Next lowest grade I see for any first rounder other than Daniel Jones is 84, and 3rd lowest grade is Lindstrom at 86. I’m glad we’re beefing up the line, but it just feels like a reach and wasted potential, specifically the 2nd Pick we made
sounds like an ideal fit for Atlanta Spoiler honestly, should be fine considering he will be spending most of his time in Flowery Branch, Cumming, or wherever they all live up there.
All the cleat chasers will be hanging out at Bass Pro Shops and Lancaster deer processing over in Buford
Skeptical Sheffield could not cut it for Saban initially but hope he is a good Nickle/Dime guy that can play opposite Trufant in a pinch Wonder what his 40 time was at pro day and if he fell bc of torn pectoral or size
The OSU WR’s claim Sheffield was the fastest on the team. Glad Dan Quinn has taken the reigns on the defense because he should be able to get the most out of him.
How many more years of Matt Ryan purgatory do we have? Maybe during the ‘20 season, we go with the “Take Losses for T Law” movement? Spoiler Trademark pending
I’m not sure if I’d say he couldn’t cut it but most of our five star corners see the field fairly early in their careers so long as they have a decent grasp of the playbook. Sheffield left because he was buried on the depth chart and the very next season he would have likely started. I guess his judgment/entitlement worry me more than anything but that’s less of a problem in the league.
They'd just screw it up and win too many games. Then give up way too much to trade up and draft Ross instead of Lawrence.
Still feels like TD is just going to draft a single DL in the 7th, hit us with a “voila!” and be totally shocked when we arent a top 5 D this year “time to beef up our WR, nobody will see that coming” - TD probably
Miller, Willis, Buggs, Jackson, Walker, Joseph and we go with a white boy out of Charleston (WV). Such a TD move.
"Oh he's Cominsky, from a small school. You might not have heard of him, but he had a great set at the senior bowl." Such a hipster draft pick.
I guess the plan is just to score 63 every game? Deepest DL draft I can remember and we only take 1, and it’s a fringe prospect at the tail end of the 4th. If we wanted to do prospects at DL, at least take several of them since we suck at talent evaluation/development
So are we at 2 or 3 trades now? What are the odds either guy would’ve actually been taken had we just sat in place??
