I’ve been close to it on a boat, but my understanding is that the general public can’t access it.

If you ever get a chance, take a boat trip from Charleston to Beaufort on the inter coastal. ACE basin is one of the best stretches of water I’ve ever been on. I hope no one ever uses a loop hole to develop that area.

Seems like there’d be a lot of impassable areas. Aren’t there like, rocks and cypress knees everywhere

I’ve done Santee/Marion to the coast. Went through the locks. Great trip. We have some wonderful waterways in SC. A boat can change how you experience our state. You don’t need a big boat to go from Charleston to Beaufort. The only part that may be rough is the St. Helena sound. Lot of great restaurants, bars, marinas, sand bars, etc on the trip to stop.

i’ve only ever done marion/santee to the coast. you could probably catch the congaree closer to the park down to marion

Reading up on Cola history, multiple failed ventures tried to link it to Charleston with waterways bigger boats could handle. Columbia Canal was part of that effort. Never got it right though and once the railroad came it was a moot point. Like 100 Irishmen died digging that canal just to have it become obsolete. Nice place to jog though

Yes. Kinda strange seeing my hometown on here. AMA!

The guy that built the ufo welcome center is one of those highly functioning autistic types. Nice guy, will make friends with anyone.

He’s the town handyman, knows a lot about a lot. Doesn’t believe in marriage and has like 5 rotating girl friends that he juggles. He’s basically a redneck Hugh Hefner. When he started building the ufo welcome center the town/county tried to make him have a building permit. He didn’t want to spend the money so if you go inside it, everything is basically bolted together and considered a temporary structure. He’s been on Oprah and all the late shows, there is some YouTube clips of him. Jody Pendarvis.

Received a job offer in Beaufort yesterday, and now mulling it over. It would be significant pay raise, but I haven't had the opportunity to compare the benefits yet. Obviously, if the benefits suck, I'll stay put, but does anyone have any thoughts on living in that area? As a kid we used to go to hunting island all the time and I loved it there. Also, my dad used to have some clients down there, too, so I got to spend a lot of time hanging out at Luthers Pharmacy and places like that, but again I was a kid. Don't really know much about the place beyond that. :idk:

no doubt, that and Parris Island being like 10min away should allow for some decent night time shenanigans

then again i don't know if i'd want to go out to the bars and deal w/ a bunch of 18 year old marines fresh out of boot

Dry or Wet aged has a distinct flavor. Most people really enjoy it but if you don’t like it then you messed up a great meal. Bone in filet is top notch. Lobster Mac N Cheese might put you in a Good Friday coma but it’s worth it. Fan of the asparagus too. Enjoy and they usually have a very good bourbon/scotch menu too.
