I’ve been close to it on a boat, but my understanding is that the general public can’t access it.
If you ever get a chance, take a boat trip from Charleston to Beaufort on the inter coastal. ACE basin is one of the best stretches of water I’ve ever been on. I hope no one ever uses a loop hole to develop that area.
Maybe Arkadin would take a few of us out for a cruise
don’t want commoners monkeying around
while you’re at it- boat from the congaree down to the coast. hit the fort watson mound otw down
Seems like there’d be a lot of impassable areas. Aren’t there like, rocks and cypress knees everywhere
I’ve done Santee/Marion to the coast. Went through the locks. Great trip. We have some wonderful waterways in SC. A boat can change how you experience our state. You don’t need a big boat to go from Charleston to Beaufort. The only part that may be rough is the St. Helena sound. Lot of great restaurants, bars, marinas, sand bars, etc on the trip to stop.
i’ve only ever done marion/santee to the coast. you could probably catch the congaree closer to the park down to marion
Have also done this. Highly recommended.
great way to spend a day
i have driven past sheldon church ruins a few times on the way to beaufort.
ran into is one way to describe it
I heard the Chatoogah in the Upstate has some great boating
You can even run across a few friendly South Carolina fans in the lower reaches of the Chattooga.
the congaree is pretty large. you can make it the whole way. there is a tree house camp along the way that does tours
Reading up on Cola history, multiple failed ventures tried to link it to Charleston with waterways bigger boats could handle. Columbia Canal was part of that effort. Never got it right though and once the railroad came it was a moot point. Like 100 Irishmen died digging that canal just to have it become obsolete. Nice place to jog though
Let's see that on the map
ive used my canoe on the harbor river where it meets the sound a few times. really fun trip
i think i was wrong about that being on the congaree, that is on the Edisto in Canadys, SC
Yes. Kinda strange seeing my hometown on here. AMA!
The guy that built the ufo welcome center is one of those highly functioning autistic types. Nice guy, will make friends with anyone.
He’s the town handyman, knows a lot about a lot. Doesn’t believe in marriage and has like 5 rotating girl friends that he juggles. He’s basically a redneck Hugh Hefner. When he started building the ufo welcome center the town/county tried to make him have a building permit. He didn’t want to spend the money so if you go inside it, everything is basically bolted together and considered a temporary structure. He’s been on Oprah and all the late shows, there is some YouTube clips of him. Jody Pendarvis.
Did you guys know that David Beasley just won a nobel prize for his work as the head of The UN World Food Program?
Beasley was the Governor when my middle school class toured the Governor’s mansion.
Thats all I got.
Received a job offer in Beaufort yesterday, and now mulling it over. It would be significant pay raise, but I haven't had the opportunity to compare the benefits yet. Obviously, if the benefits suck, I'll stay put, but does anyone have any thoughts on living in that area? As a kid we used to go to hunting island all the time and I loved it there. Also, my dad used to have some clients down there, too, so I got to spend a lot of time hanging out at Luthers Pharmacy and places like that, but again I was a kid. Don't really know much about the place beyond that.
I'd be curious how much it differs from nearby Bluffton/HHI
which is just retiree hell and I spend too much time there due to MIL
Beaufort is awesome
really pretty and good restaurants
get a load of this guy who's too cool to spend time on the badminton and shuffleboard courts and would rather go clubbing instead
go back to myrtle beach w/ the rest of the EDM crowd
in reality there are some cool places around beaufort/hhi that cater to the young service sector employees/restaurant workers that are fun to go to
no doubt, that and Parris Island being like 10min away should allow for some decent night time shenanigans
then again i don't know if i'd want to go out to the bars and deal w/ a bunch of 18 year old marines fresh out of boot
as someone who lived around and interacted with a bunch of national guard kids in georgetown sc for a while
i imagine a marine base would be much much worse
Beaufort would be a great place to live. Spend a fair amount of time in that area for both work and play. May even turn you into a glass is half full kind of dude.
My wife is from Beaufort and she loves it. I haven't spent a whole lot of time there but I always enjoy it when we go. Seems like it would be a great place to live.
so you'd probably hate it
beaufort is nice
I wanna live in Beaufort
that Plums restaurant in Beaufort has an absolutely banging shrimp salad sandwich
We go to Saltus every trip. Nice bar and great back deck facing the water.
I’m also a big fan of Beaufort and would move there in a heartbeat. I’d absolutely choose it over Charleston at this point in my life.
i want that hat
Cool name. Feel like they could have done better with the logos. They suck.
Anybody else think the one logo looks like an open pack of cigs?
Take it, imo. I have no idea what you're going to be making, but if you like the outdoors and golf it's a great spot.
Cheeseburger aaayyyy pleennnnttaaayyyy
What steak should I get at Halls Chophouse
Either the bone in filet or the Ribeye IMO.
What is “wet aged”
Their bone in rib-eye is spectacular
aged in its own juices. generally vacuum sealed and refrigerated
Jesus Christ...24 oz
Dry or Wet aged has a distinct flavor. Most people really enjoy it but if you don’t like it then you messed up a great meal. Bone in filet is top notch. Lobster Mac N Cheese might put you in a Good Friday coma but it’s worth it. Fan of the asparagus too. Enjoy and they usually have a very good bourbon/scotch menu too.
I prefer Hall’s sides to their steaks
don’t @ me haters
