2010 I had viral pneumonia and it put me on my ass for four weeks. Two weeks in I went back to the doc and asked why I wasn't getting better more quickly, and she told me I had no idea how much damage had been done to my lungs
Reddit user when asked: How is morale among healthcare workers? Do you feel protected and well supported? "Phoenix area ER nurse here. Morale is generally low amongst the staff on the floor. The COVID patients are pouring in and we don't have the resources. Dept of health services will tell you that ICUs are 90% full but that's a fantasy. ICU patients are sitting in the ER for 24 hours and, in some cases, are being sent in ambulances to different hospitals. Lung bypass units (ECMO) are basically gone, machines to continuously filter the blood (CRRT) are basically gone, we're out of the "nice" ventilators and are utilizing previously retired and replaced "surge" ventilators and transport ventilators. It's rough. We are using the same n95 for a week to two weeks in a row before they are put in a biohazard bin to be "reprocessed" while many hospital workers are out with COVID. The masks are signed out to us and we have to literally sign our name to make sure that we aren't requesting new masks too frequently. We don't have enough tests, and when you can manage to get one it takes weeks for the results to come back. A coworker just waited 9 days for her COVID PCR swab to result. 9 days for a front line worker to get test results. We are failing miserably at every possible level and it's supremely discouraging. If you come in to my hospital were going to give you excellent care, but people are getting restless. The people who take care of you are going to do their best to smile and give you the best possible care under the circumstances, all in the face of a system that is in crumbling in every direction around them. We need the public to listen. I would love to put this on hospital admin, they're a great scapegoat and I have no love for upper admin. But they're in this too, they don't want employees writing novels on reddit, they don't want to recycle respirators, and they definitely want happy healthy patients. But the public doesn't care, they've lost all interest in the face of an inexplicably politicized nightmare situation. We're overwhelmed, overworked, and it looks like it's only getting worse. Edit: Thank you everyone so much for the very unexpected outpouring of support! Sometimes it can feel like the general public has forgotten, or is just choosing to ignore what's happening in the hospitals and I never expected thousands of people to hit the little up vote button. I've never gotten any reddit flair before and now I have enough to make a golden grille for my respirator. Some people have asked what they can do and my only answer is to continue to be diligent about masking and social distancing. Maybe consider donating blood as it's still very much needed and always in short supply. And then, of course, go out and elect politicians who won't turn a public health crisis into a political show. The governor of AZ held a press conference yesterday and all he did was cap restaurant capacity at 50%. If you think this is a problem, tell him in the polls. Thanks so much everyone!"
it's impressive how stupid all of this is china showed us what could happen then it happened across europe then it happened in new york city now it's happening in arizona, texas, and florida it's like not a single place understood what happened in the place before it
I'm not gonna try sifting through a dashboard or whatever, but a little curious what the more recent picture (say last 3 weeks or so) looks like as far as positive children are concerned
coronavirus.1point3acres.com is showing 4900 cases. Regardless, either number just blew out the single day case record.
Was just going to say that. Probably a few others that either haven’t reported or are late reporting also. Pretty decent chance we break the record daily cases for I believe the 3rd time this week.
pretty much confirms cooper is going to go plan b since plan c means they wouldnt be able to do that fuck man idk what we're going to do in the fall.
in Ohio now (Cleveland area). My aunt — who’s a huge Trumper yet also huge on social distancing, masks and virus care (it’s weirder in person than in description) — says things are pretty much fully open. People eating inside in restaurants, inside at bars, etc. So yeah, an uptick wouldn’t be surprising.
This is a MAJOR win for Florida citizens and the country as a whole. The state is finally reporting hospitalization data. Just started around 2pm today. I’d give it a day to make sure it’s accurate before we know more as it sounded like it was still he updated when this tweet was put out but this is a big win for those trying to see how had things are and make sure we can make apples to apples comparisons between hotspots.
my wife is teaching a summer class. She was given time to plan and it’s for a grade. She says she has 20 regular students. As long as it matters students will pay attention and do their work.
MDR too. Stores every one wears one. On walks about 80-90% and people that don’t do try and walk around you
IL posted 1,317 today, the first time we’ve been above the daily average for new cases in over a month. We’re spiking again, just in the early stages.
my sister wanted to get together at my parents for the 4th. I told her we all had to wear masks and be in the backyard. We ended up not getting together because she didn’t want to wear a mask at home and it turned into a big thing. Mind you a month or so ago she was scared she had it.
Maybe Texas is different but we can’t strike in FL. They will strip your certificate and fine you. I’d love to be able to strike and march into DeSantis office... but you can’t, because he continues to have his office closed to the public.
Thats the way I roll. I don’t wear a mask walking outside but have one at the ready if I decide to go inside somewhere or get into a traffic situation on the sidewalk. I usually try to move out of the way or cross the street if I can though.
Went and donated blood to get my antibody test. They have maxed out on appointments to donate basically every day since it was announced. Really hope I have the antibodies.
its lack of discrimination is just another lesson the American public is probably incapable of learning from this crisis
I'm not going to make fun of these stories. It's a symptom of the issue of misinformation and the overall idea that every issue has 2 sides and the truth must be in the middle. Even in a public health crisis, too many people still think "well the truth is in the middle" due to horrendous leadership and media that gives it an equal say because thats what they do for every. fucking. story. So yea while we want to point at the hardass who said Fuck Masks and point at his death...I just feel bad for him. Not saying it's not his fault...but this is what this country has become.
I’m gonna be a dick for no good reason, you went inside into businesses when that’s not necessary. Further, that’s what you shared here. I’m sure you could look back and think of other moments when you weren't as careful as you thought. Edit: but yea I’m an asshole didn’t really need to post that hope your symptoms stay light. Home county getting crushed
the only time i went in somewhere that wasn’t for food or something necessary was a bucees like a month ago i went in the gas station by my house a lot for stuff to drink, so maybe that was it. guess i should have ordered my groceries in hindsight
