So it’s been 3 days since my first dose. My arm doesn’t really hurt anymore, but I have a lump in my neck now...
Really? I thought we were looking at 80%+ effectiveness with one dose of the Pfizer and Moderna shots. Do you ever see us hitting 100K new cases in a day? I’m really curious as to when we see an actual downward trend that squashes this thing.
Those studies were done before any of the variants were the majority of infections Imagine how high cases would be without vaccinations..
The replies show the mask is no longer a best-available option to fight the virus absent a vaccine, but instead a virtue signal.
Sore/Swollen lymph nodes can be a side effect of the vaccine. Mine were swollen for a few days under my armpits after my second shot.
Like, no shit the vaccine is better than masks. Why can’t we do both in conjunction while we’re finishing this thing off so more people don’t needlessly get sick? Using some Twitter replies to a meme to judge the merits of public health policy is lol. Not directed at you fwiw.
If anything like Florida it’s due to the variants affecting younger people at higher rates and the vaccinated crowd is older.
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanmic/article/PIIS2666-5247(21)00027-6/fulltext As the intense circulation of SARS-CoV-2 in the human population might select for more efficient transmissibility, which in turn could be aided by more efficient interferon antagonism, sequence evolution of SARS-CoV ORF6 should be monitored closely. Our mutagenesis study provides a target for sequence-based surveillance, because acquisition of charged amino acids at the CTD of protein 6, specifically at positions Gln51 and Gln56, was found to augment protein 6-dependent interferon signalling suppression in ISRE promotor assays. Sooo uhhhhh that could, if it were to happen, potentially make virulence appreciably worse, huh? Provided exposure post mutation allows such a mutation to catch on, population-wise
lol I didn’t want to be the first one to quote that post asking for translation. All I want to know is are we screwed or not.
It says it in the manuscript. It's something to monitor. Hypothetically, it would be harder for your immune system to fight the virus with those mutations, but thats hypothetical. They didn't actually engineer a full virus with those changes.
My brothers good friend in Virginia Beach died over the weekend. My brother spends half the year up there and considers this guy family (spends holidays with them). He was 40 years old and had two kids (8 and 5). Healthy guy too.
This just shows you how much of an impact, even at this late date, Trump coming out and telling people that the key to businesses opening and life going back to normal is to get vaccinated would have.
No worries, it's actually a REALLY jargon-heavy way of saying "we're taking the virus parts and trying a bunch of 'small' mutations, like changing the genetic code so this amino acid here becomes this other amino acid, and then taking that new protein and putting it in a test and seeing if it does something weird to a test body." "we see that this little change makes a big difference in that test for interferon suppression ( interferon being one of our most important things for defense against viral infections." Amino Acids are the legos that are used to build our beloved protein lego masterpieces, you see. If I change this lego piece, this is how the behavior changes.
What are the prospects for non-vaccine treatments going into late '21? Things like antivirals, mAbs, etc. Will mAbs be more available as manufacturing increases?
a few of the oral antivirals look promising. mAbs we have a few of. don't know if anything better is coming.
Also getting my second on Saturday. Girlfriend got hers this past Saturday and had next to no side effects. Fingers crossed.

https://blogs.sciencemag.org/pipeline/archives/2021/04/12/vaccine-efficacy-questions Lmfao Russia what are you people doing? A phase 2 trial with <90 people And demanding all your vaccines back from slovakia because they asked questions about them all looking different
My arm is still sore 2 weeks after shot 2. Like sore to the point where I can’t lift my arm without pain and wake up in pain when I move it while sleeping. Think the guy did something when administering.
https://abc7ny.com/10508285/ Thaaaats not good. JnJ people need 60 days before full effective immunity is reached according to trials, right?
It is one case over how many hundreds of thousands? of doses administered. There are always going to be breakthroughs and, frankly, it’s an incredible testimony to the three manufacturers that there aren’t more.
Yeah thats cool im trying to find what time that effectiveness is actually reached because nothing will undermine credibility faster than when people hear "oh yeah youre good after 2 or 3 weeks" when thats only 40%-70% effectiveness when its true peak of no-severe-infections is actually at 49-59 days
