watch the daily vaccination average the next week or 2 vs one flash poll. hope there isn’t a downtick w the J&J news
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-56696907 Why are so many babies dying of Covid-19 in Brazil? More than a year into the pandemic, deaths in Brazil are now at their peak. But despite the overwhelming evidence that Covid-19 rarely kills young children, in Brazil 1,300 babies have died from the virus. One doctor refused to test Jessika Ricarte's one-year-old son for Covid, saying his symptoms did not fit the profile of the virus. Two months later he died of complications from the disease
I feel like the media has rung the bell so many times on variant hysteria that it's hard to tell what I should be concerned about
Time lag sucks too. You can identify a new variant, but it's hard to stop the nasty ones before they ravage an entire region/country.
I mean its the BBC and isnt quite as sensationalized as U.S. news. Granted its from a country in Brazil whose leader seems to be basking in the deaths of his own citizens, telling them to suck it up
This is a pretty great video (I guess watch it in parts). I hope y'all's kids know that these people are huge dipshits
if you think that, imagine what people who think the media is the enemy think. I completely agree with you and think it expands beyond variants. The fear peddling in the last month or so and the stories that try and paint a future where masks are the norm and we never get back to normal does a lot more harm than good. The media has sensationalized all bad news on the vaccine regardless of how small and/or unimportant it was which has helped fuel vaccine hesitancy. The constant fear peddling and refusal to paint a picture of a world close to back to normal if everyone gets vaccinated also hurts vaccine numbers and people practicing social distancing/masks now. I had issues at times with certain reporting throughout but I think the media as a whole did a solid job in 2020. The last month or so has seen really bad reporting and it looks to be getting worse by the day.
5,800 fully vaccinated people have gotten Coronavirus 396 (7%) required hospitalization 74 people died 77 million fully vaccinated
How many of those who got sick/were hospitalized/died had reached full immunity post vaccination? That seems important to know.
36 hours of basically the flu, and I woke up today feeling fine other than the standard arm soreness.
I've really had hope we'd be back to normal come fall, but today I started feeling like that just isn't going to happen.
What exactly do you consider normal? I think it's safe to say nothing will ever be the same again. I also think it's safe to say this pandemic helped to divide the citizens of this country even more thanks to right wing propaganda.
defining full immunity is important. There were a few people in congress who got it in between shots 1 and 2. Even if the person had 2, was it the 14 days they say are needed for full immunity for pfizer/moderna or whatever that period is for JNJ? Stats like this that have come out recently have been misleading at best fairly often.
why do you think that? We will likely need a booster shot each year and this is not going fully away but I think life will be very close to normal for most people by the end of summer/early fall. Will “normal” look different? Probably. For example I think more people will work from home. Other changes like that but I’ve seen nothing to suggest we won’t see normality come fall.
Just feel like we are creeping closer and closer to the point where the gates are just opened. The anti vax/it's no big deal crowd just seems like it's winning Throw in the jannsen pause and to me it looks like we are about to be in a situation where we just pray the vaccine work cause those who don't give a shit are about to get their way Not to mention outside of the US and a few others, most countries won't even be close to vaccinating a meaningful amount of citizens for at least another year. Hell, some in S Americac Africa and Asia may not ever get there Idk just feel down about it today
not really the media but i saw people yelling at chris hayes on twitter for saying he would likely walk around outside in a park without a mask after being fully vaccinated scolding like that is ridiculous and absurd and just wears people down
https://apple.news/ACyR9lzsRQ6SWhQ83iQUktw It doesn't really have that information. That's the link to the article. It did talk about a "national Covid-19 Vaccine Breakthrough database". 40% of infections were over 60 years of age Edit: sorry to the poors that have Android. It's the only link I could find
Don't disagree, but those polling numbers could also just align with who trusts the vaccines already.
The outside stuff is insane in some areas. I'll wear my mask if I'm with a ton of people outside and can't distance, but there's been enough evidence now that it's very hard to become infected if you're outside vs inside and if you're vaccinated it's dumb. The CDC came out over a month ago and said we don't even need to quarantine if you're vaccinated and got exposed.. Perhaps the new more infectious UK variant can spread more outside but cases are basically stagnant here in Georgia and iirc over 60% of PCR samples tested a few weeks ago were UK.
Does it? I think saying the death rate of vaccinated is less than 1 out if every 1,000,000 is pretty good compared to roughly 1 out of every 600 Americans overall.
cdc has turned J&J into the 3rd world vaccine & even in Latin America it may get rejected bc skepticism is high in that community
I’m old enough to remember last year when the fear was this rampaging through India and variants popping up due to their issues w/ hygiene and infrastructure
In general I agree. In MI for sports it has been made clear that fans are expected to wear face coverings. Would you attend and wear one or just ignore the requirement?
The pandemic has permanently broken some people's ability to evaluate risk. If I have a .008% chance of catching a mild case of the virus, I think I'll take my chances without a mask.
Careful with this. I'd bet it's still largely dependent on size of innoculum or however its spelled. Catching a mouth load may overwhelm the response to still get infected in spite of being vaxxed
Why does it matter? I’m happy that fewer people are getting sick from other diseases because we’ve been (semi-)vigilant on masks and washing our hands and everything. I run long distance with my mask and suffer no performance degradation. I am rejoining outdoor soccer in the next few months and I’m going to wear a mask. Every plane ride I take for the rest of time is going to be with a mask. Mandates are whatever but it’s just common sense and hygienic to do so. I hope they stick around forever and we look more like Japan or Korea going forward.
