Ok, moment of truth... Wife is a pediatric physical therapist in a hospital. Her hospital canceled all outpatients, non-essential surgeries, etc. so her case load was cut in half (and there are three peds pts in her dept.) Today they gave her the following choice: get “flexed” or get trained as a CNA starting tomorrow. She’s scared shitless but “wants to do the right thing”. I have no idea what to tell her.
1. Holy shit. 2. If they all have covid, why can’t they stay? Move as many respirators in as possible.
On one hand I wouldn’t blame any healthcare worker who could afford it to say fuck that I’m not interested in getting a pandemic if I don’t have to. On the other, if she lives through it, she can say that she stepped up in a time of crisis. Pretty cool story and example.
That’s what I’ll lead with when I talk to her, “if you live through this...” The “fuck it, let’s be legends” of healthcare.
50 But I don’t do them everyday. Like if I have a bench or power clean day or a routine that involves pull ups, there’s no way I’m doing push ups on my second workout later that day
Man that’s tough. I’d like to think I could give my wife a ra-ra speech and tell her to go be a hero, but if I’m being honest with myself I’m probably talking her out of it.
When does this go into effect and what type of public employers are covered under this? I don't see either of those things anywhere.
Remember the good old days (yesterday evening) when the projection was to hit 900 deaths on Friday? Sitting at 1,031 on Wednesday night. Shit is getting ugly.
Americans are the dumbest pieces of shit on the face of this god damn Earth and you're a prime example of that.
Dr. Grant Colfax, head of the SF Department of Public Health, said that “there are plausible scenarios that would put us in a situation like New York is in.” That is why city officials and hospitals are preparing for such a surge. While there are about 1,300 staffed regular medical-surgical beds and 200 staffed intensive care unit beds in local hospitals, Breed said The City will need as many as 5,000 more staffed hospital beds and 1,500 more ventilators. https://www.sfexaminer.com/news/bre...-beds-1500-ventilators-for-coronavirus-surge/
wife is a DPT NCS and has already been told this is likely when it gets bad here. my opinion is that if she can use her medical training to help, she should. I understand it’s scary shit and I’m barely sleeping thinking about it myself, but we all gotta do what we can.
king shit wife has brought up concerns regarding her safety (as well as mine and our child's) and the lack of adequate ppe for her upcoming stint in seattle and was told "medicine is a selfless disclipine...we'll try to get you enough ppe". one of her med school classmates is at the hospital and he's reported that two ER providers are in the ICU from COVID: one is intubated, the other on ECMO. unfortunately if she doesn't obey she gets court martialed. i'm right there with ya man.
Also dblplay1212 terminating the employees is the worst option. He’ll owe all of them their PTO and expose himself to WARN liability. If he’s doing anything, it should be a furlough.
the lack of proper ppe and healthcare workers having to have these discussions about risking their lives, without normal 1st world precautions, is insane and such an indictment of our country not much has made me angrier than this, likely because it's on my doorstep eat arby's, move to a country that isn't trying to kill its citizens if you can
it’s an absolute pathetic joke and an indictment on the priorities in this country. we should not all be posting in here about whether our wives can help fight this thing safely, but we are
