More people in central virginia probably have AIDS than they do the Wuhan virus, if anything you should be panicking about randomly contracting HIV.
Jokes on you, I have to have sex to get that. Or I guess I could start shooting up heroin or something.
Panicking is the wrong move. Not taking it seriously is also the wrong move. There are vast oceans of differences between "BOMB CHINA AND CLOSE THE BORDERS" and "lolwrongcoronavirus i do what i want"
"Very severe strain of flu/cold" Buddy, there is a big ass difference between a severe cold and a severe flu. If this is a "severe flu" type situation, and they don't get a lid on it, 50,000 people will die.
Maybe its just me, but after seeing how the media handled the reporting the deaths of what ended up being 9 people in a helicopter crash yesterday, I have next to no faith that there is any kind of accuracy in them being able to report whether or not 100 people have a virus
Fantastic no-nonsense article https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/01/2...han-coronavirus-a-tentative-clinical-profile/
Great article. My only comment is on the paragraph regarding fever clinics. That shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Chinese society. The fever clinics are a means of keeping those with fevers from bringing hospitals to a grinding halt/isolating possible cases. The thesis isn't wrong, but it's based on a bit of a false premise of what would happen without them.
But for real, most people should know that hand sanitizer only works for some viruses, they dont need to know the mechanics of why. But theres signage everywhere in place where people spend an extended amount of time together in tight quarters like cruise ships, trains, airplanes, etc to WASH YOUR HANDS WITH SOAP THOROUGHLY. You wont see a sign in a bathroom or kitchen or hospital to please use hand sanitizer.
guy on my team at work has family near Wuhan. He flew there about a week ago and was supposed to fly back Saturday. Yeah he’s stuck there now.
It’s interesting reading about SARS, it was a super-spreader so individuals were infecting like 10-20 people at a time. Basically if you defecated while you were sick, anyone in smelling distance would probably get infected. But since you were mostly infectious when you were showing symptoms that made it easier to contain. it seems like if there was ever a super-spreader Coronavirus that was contagious prior to showing symptoms like the Wuhan virus then that would be a disaster.
I've read that a big concern is people are dying and other causes are being listed for death, not the virus. "He had a coughing fit from the virus, fell and smacked his head. Cause of death: Blunt Force Trauma." Stuff like that. An effort inside China to skew the numbers so there's less panic.
Sorry if already posted, breakdown with locations and # of infected/deaths. https://gisanddata.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6
fiance just got back from NYC and now has a 100+ fever, etc...so goodnight fair TMB I'm not long for this mortal coil
I’m sorry. That’s just the tip of the iceberg if you wanna really never go to a hospital or have surgery.
1) Most hand sanitizers aren’t effective against viruses, although there are some that have been shown to reduce their numbers. 2) Hand sanitizers do not kill ALL bacteria on the hands, so the hands can still spread them. 3) Most people use the hand sanitizers incorrectly. They apply the sanitizer without washing the hands first. Hands should be thoroughly cleaned with soap and water first to remove biofilm and matter that protect the germs from the active ingredient of the hand sanitizer.
