ie the Alabama ppl she knows who aren’t vaccinated get what they get? Because that’s how natural selection kinda works at this point.
This is nonsense. Is Facebook going to get an injunction against the President for saying that FB needs to clean their own shit up, or that FB has a responsibility to their customers?
No. And he did that. He went beyond that. He said they’re getting people killed. What he can’t do is suggest that the government can punish them.
You seem to be struggling. I can’t help you understand any better how asking the president how he will punish Facebook for spreading misinformation is asking how the government will punish Facebook for spreading misinformation. He can’t do anything more than point out that it’s misinformation and costing lives. He’s done that.
He literally could have done this in response to that question, or said like a million other things besides “I’m not trying to hold people accountable.”
“Holding someone accountable for bad actions” is the definition of punishment. He can’t do that. All he can do is point out the misinformation and warn the public of the danger it presents. He’s done that.
Having the state come in and regulate the speech of a private company is highly problematic. Was when Trump tried to do it and it would be now.
This is one of the more ridiculous conversations I've had on here, so let me try it one other way before I quit. Friday, the President of the United States said that Facebook was killing people due to the vaccine misinformation. Today, he was asked if he would hold them accountable for killing people, and the President responded that he was not trying to hold people accountable. Do you believe that his response was the very best response he could have made to that question? Do you believe that any other response would have been a violation of the First Amendment rights of Facebook? I believe his response was bad. I believe there were many other responses that would not have gotten anywhere close to implicating the First Amendment.
He can’t hold people accountable for speech he doesn’t like. That’s the entire point of the first amendment. If you’re asking you he could phrase that limitation more eloquently? Sure he could have. That doesn’t substantively change the response. He can’t try and hold people accountable.
Literally show me that definition, because now I'm starting to wonder if you know what "literally" means.
Lots of different ways. It's a huge spectrum from killing them to giving them a lecture. The President, for example, could hold Facebook/Zuck accountable for their misinformation by explaining to the American people how misinformation posted on social media sites causes damage to vaccine efforts. Hell, Biden could do something like put together a task force who will make a website specifically to debunk misinformation claims commonly found on social media sites, or a whole bunch of other things.
Congratulations. These are examples of different types of punishment. You have just defined punishment as holding people accountable for their bad actions.
I like facebook stop trying to kill it Misinformation is out there if you want it you can find it anywhere, it's not specific to facebook. All I see in this thread is the sharing of dumbass misinformation via Twitter but where is the hate for Twitter. I customize my facebook so I don't see the bullshit I don't want to see, which means unfriending/unfollowing the nonsense. Kind of like TMB I just click the threads I want to read/participate in. I'm not forced to read HUSK CITY and THE GOLF THREAD I know I know, boomer rant over.
there’s like, an actual rule about government regulation of lies pertaining to matters of public interest
Why are Dems so constantly terrified of using the mechanisms of power available to them? It's baffling
Man I hate when I say something in passing, someone takes issue with it and I end up arguing for pages about something I don't really even care that much about. This conversation made me think of it. Carry on.
Wait are we seriously pretending their aren't countless things the President of the United States could do to get Facebook in line?
Seems it's that or admitting we like FB in the COVID thread. You know, the thread where we discuss the hundreds of thousands of needless deaths that FB has indirectly caused.
give me explicit things biden could do that combined with bidens on the record statements that a court would be unlikely to see as unconstitutional coercion
-regulate the relationship between Facebook, its advertisers, and its users -enforce/support existing enforcement actions with respect to Facebook’s violations of its own terms and privacy requirements -regulate what Facebook must do to reduce the risk that its users view content not protected by the First Amendment -and of course, break up Facebook via antitrust action
Makes sense, we’re only 3 months away from the upcoming October beginning of the next serious Covid spine.
Most of this is all stuff that should be done independent of Covid though. And explicitly tying the two would seemingly provide Facebook with a legal defense against those actions.
Yes but are they actually getting pieces of shit like Hannity to say the vaccine is safe? (I didn't watch the clip)
