So, you know in Footloose when Chris Penn's character is a good fighter but his girlfriend is always telling him not to fight? And then at the end when he gets jumped she lets him go and he kicks ass? That's you, right now. You're doing the honorable thing. That said, I would start preparing a scorched earth diatribe in my head right now for when my wife finally unleashes my fury.
^ Yeah. Life's too short. When someone is ignoring hundreds of years of infectious disease science, there's not much you can do to fix that dumbassery.
Do we know yet how booster shots will work far as being administered? Got my second shot back in February so I'm due for a booster but I did it at a place about 2.5 hours away. There's a county vaccination clinic next door to my office so I'm really really hoping we don't have to go back to the same place that we got the first two and can go to a new location.
my cousin is still having her wedding down in Louisiana next month--really hoping my family members don't join the fucked around and found out thread
Depends on what you want to see: 90%+ infection prevention or just hospitalization/death prevention. It’s clear in Israel that boosters reduced spread.
He’s probably right. I’m hearing increasing confidence in the oral Merck drug data forthcoming. That said, COVID-19 will continue to impact a lot of people for years to come even if hospitalization and Deaths are preventable
isnt tamiflu really terrible at treating the flu though? the doctor I had said it might knock a day off of the symptoms because for it to be effective you have to take it within 48 hours which is a hard time table
I dunno. Based on your posting, it seems like your wife may have taught herself how to be a good person more than the family My in-laws are pretty damn Republican, but luckily they never got close to going down the anti-vax road. You’re a stronger person than I for all the restraint you’ve shown.
I wonder what the deciding factor is on being a republican and anti-vax. Like there are some Rs who got the vaccine immediately when it was first available and then there's ones who've had family members die and still won't get it.
This is just anecdotal but my whole family is R leaning and all got the vaccine, including kids of age. My wife’s family is all R leaning and well, we all know how that is going.
my dad mainlines fox news and got it immediately. my mom has no beliefs of her own and just main lines whatever my dad says and refused to get it for months we live in a society is what i am trying to say
No offense to your wife’s family, but I have to think intelligence and who you surround yourself with to be the biggest factors
I mean everyone in my wife’s family went to TAMU, including grandparents, aunts, and uncles, but my wife so….
The Republicans in my immediate family got it right away, mostly due to their own health risks (stepfather had open heart surgery three years ago) or risks to close loved ones (my MAGA aunt has a special-needs daughter). Extended family, not so much. My dad’s cousin and her husband refused to get the vaccine until the husband got COVID and had to be hospitalized. The moment he went to the hospital her and the holdouts on his side of her family rushed to the nearest clinic to get the first shot. So I think it’s based more on being affected personally that anything else. Republicans generally don’t give a shit about anything dealing with the greater good unless it directly affects them.
There was a very long time it was considered a "city problem" Also a vice problem. Remember when trump fucked around getting in close with old WW2 vets during photo ops and he said no way they'd catch covid, they're so pure and nice In the earlier batch of stories where conservative communities started threatening med personnel, the rationale for not masking or distancing was " well ive known my neighbors for a long time and theyre good people and i trust them" Lotta just-world fallacy
I like this but we’ve done nothing to prepare us for the next time this happens. And my guess is that we’ll see another pandemic within 20 years or so.
Definitely a "stop censoring my speech" - "what speech are they censoring - " uhhh i dont wanna say" situation Cool reporter just parroting their not-points
my fox watching in laws did as did their entire sunday school class asap. lots of them knew they would likely die if they didn't and the anti vax shit hadn't really taken off at the beginning
If we dump billions of dollars and the collective brain power of the entire world's academic medical institutions to get fucking tamiflu, fucking hell.
Someone in the replies found that these people were a part of the Black Hammer organization which is basically a cult.
Theyre pretty social media savvy. Iirc they fundraised (fundrose?) to try to buy back indigenous land or something and you knoooooow, didnt. They target zoomers
TrueAnon's Twitter account did a minute by minute breakdown of one of their "town hall's" on YouTube and it was frightening to read.
I've been consulting a three letter agency on their data management and reporting procedures, the shitshow described in this expose is consistent with my experience. Just replace all the medical data with taxpayer dollars and it's pretty much spot on. There is no bottom to the government's ineptness. https://www.politico.com/news/2021/08/15/inside-americas-covid-data-gap-502565
federalism and starving the best largely make the US unable to handle large scale projects with any efficiency at all (plus no national healthcare system or even national medical record system)
