Reinforces that those who had COVID before (which wouldn't be from the Omicron variant) + vaccination are much more protected.
Probably not that quickly, but some of these variants have a common lineage. I'm sure people much much smarter than me can weigh if updating a vaccine to that of a common ancestor (i.e. something that still evolved after the original WT strain) may be a lot more effective than just targeted whatever the latest variant is. Omicron has several mutations that Delta and Beta have, I'm guessing if the current vaccines were updated with at least those mutations then you'd see better antibody binding results.
Ding makes an easy-to-miss (for me) point here 3 shots-no infections people may end up seeing a correlation with 2 shots + infection
You'll want to talk to your doctor about that if you're immuno-comped and in what ways does that manifest
Has there been anything new recently on those of us J&J + mrna boost people? Seems like everything mentions 3 shots.
There are too many other factors to say shit like “not looking good” as a blanket statement while ignoring breakthrough cases that are mild/severe/hospitalizations amongst 2 doses/3 doses/ and pre existing conditions.
If you get that antibody treatment you're supposed to wait on the booster. Happened with my wife who got a breakthrough and the treatment but no booster yet.
yeah the preceding tweet isn't great, there's still a lot to know about it all. we're hitting another really bad hospitalization surge now with primarily delta and some places like NYC are putting off elective surgeries again. Breakthroughs and subsequent severity need to be minimized as much as possible with the load we're already at
Now that I've been paying attention, he's the absolute worst. He knows how his bread is buttered. Fucking sellout.
he’s a nutritionist that is addicted to attention from this. apparently he pulled his kids out of school to send them to austria so they could learn in person (not gonna fact check because idc) as he was railing against in person school he legit never wants this to end. unhinged lunatic
I was under the impression their waning titers correlated in the population to higher incidence breakthroughs.
They did. But I'm not sure if that was represented in the sera they were using for those early neutralization assays at the time. If they did, cut "delta" and insert "B1135" into my post instead. I'm sure Feigl-Ding put on a public pant-shitting exhibition for both.
We e had a gradual uptick in COVID cases at the hospital since Thanksgiving but so far the # of COVID patients in the ICU has stayed low.
Variety is the spice of life. I opted for Moderna after two Pfizers. The wife followed suit when she was able to get boosted.
I was pointing out that the infected + 2 shots approximating to possibly 3 shots seems like a good thing to notice, in the absence of booster data, and earlier that, in spite of its variability, effectiveness and titers have been modeled to track with each other on a log scale, hence the ~40x decrease is definitely not great but doesn't mean catastrophe at this point. The bloom lab pretty much called that drop. Like, I get it, it's not hospitalization data, but matching genomic and structural analysis with these sorts of assays isn't exactly dog shit either, considering it's going to inform what goes in to the mRNA changes. This holiday season is gonna suck ass, omicron or not
What is the consensus on 6 and 9 year olds wearing masks if fully vaccinated? Around here, they're the only ones wearing masks in their class, so not sure how much the masks are doing anyways.
Our 6.5 yo gets shot 2 this Saturday. We were thinking about letting him go maskless after Christmas before this new variant popped up. We know almost all of the kids in the class and his teacher are vaccinated or will be by then. TBD now
Boosted about 18 hours ago. Pfizer for all 3. My arm is way more sore than the first two for whatever reason, but otherwise minimal side effects Am I working today though?
it's awful here. It's not just for adults, either. There are no, zero, zilch pediatric ICU beds open, and we're just entering our typical viral season with influenza upticking. I'm a litle frustrated by all the "what is Gov. Walz doing!" in the ether around here. Walz is an awesome guy, I know he'd love to lock us the fuck down like early in the pandemic, but MN is on the razor's edge of the GOP sweeping everything and making us the Florida of the North. It's some pretty tough and awful political calculus, and it's not about self-preservation. It's choosing "really bad" over "completely fucked."
Need to re-up on some KF-94’s. Got the ones from behealthyusa.net last time but not sure if they’re legit.
They're the ones masknerd tests and he gets good results on them so they should be fine Here are N95's for <80 cents each (its less expensive than most of behealthy's stuff) but idk how they fit on peoples faces and i think its on masknerds list https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/9105/3M160840-ND/5128356 Edit: yeah this is the last 2 entries
Unless Pfizer's and Moderna's own studies show better results, this may be finally what gets them to update their vaccines. Going to be interesting to see if Omicron completely reinfects all the people who just got infected w/ Delta here in the South or if there's been enough breakthroughs along with other immunity to tamp down spread.
I get that it's Pfizer and they don't want to cause panic, but it's funny how wildly different the tone is between this and some of the PhDs who say things are a "disaster." 3 shots giving you only an increased risk for a mild breakthrough likely will still greatly reduced spread if the breakthroughs act like how Delta breakthroughs were in 2-dose vaccinated people. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/12/8/pfizer-booster-covid-vaccine-omicron-effective
