What is this thread's opinion on giving your throat a swab along with the nostrils for at home antigen test? Have read some things postulating adding a throat swab increases Omicron detection for at home antigen tests.
The surprising reason conservatives might start buying drugs used to treat gender dysphoria in bulk Spoiler We all know that Fox News guests (and anchors, for that matter) are no strangers to promoting wildly anti-science perspectives on the network. In fact, rhetoric pushed by Fox can be downright dangerous. You might remember Dr. Pierre Kory, for example, for his time on Fox (and everywhere else) promoting ivermectin (a drug approved by the FDA to fight parasites, like worms and lice) as a “first-line” agent to treat COVID-19. (If you’re not familiar with ivermectin, or you think there’s some merit to the drug in terms of the pandemic, I highly recommend taking some time to check out this deep-dive by my colleague, Mark Sumner.) On Sunday, Jan. 9, Kory appeared on Sunday Morning Futures to talk again about COVID-19, as highlighted by Media Matters. In speaking to Fox host Maria Bartiromo, the ICU physician advised viewers to go to the website for Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance (FLCCC), a fringe group of physicians who believe in ivermectin as treatment or prevention for the virus, to check out his suggested treatments for the virus. In addition to ivermectin, the website lists “second-line” treatments, including “dual anti-androgen therapy” of spironolactone plus either finasteride or dutasteride. What’s that? A combination frequently used by trans women to combat gender dysphoria by suppressing testosterone levels. The levels the drugs are listed at are roughly in line with what one would take for gender-affirming reasons, too, if not even higher. We know Fox has a long, long history of promoting, amplifying, and pushing hateful, anti-trans agendas. We’re told again and again that trans youth in particular can’t have access to gender-affirming health care. We’re told that medical intervention can be damaging or even irreversible. There’s endless fearmongering thrown around when it comes to trans people trying to affirm their gender and make their own medical choices—but when it comes to bizarre COVID-19 treatments, apparently these drugs are just fine. It’s dangerous, it’s hypocritical, and it just underlines how incredibly exclusionary and discriminatory this sort of rhetoric is. Is this combination of drugs at this level a treatment for COVID-19 that the mainstream media is keeping from us? Or is it so dangerous we need to scare generations of trans folks away from using it? It can’t be both, after all, no matter how badly conservatives want to write their own rules. Twitter users—and especially trans folks—have done a lot of labor in making sure this point gets a lot of attention online. The guy in charge of this group was on Fox News yesterday telling people specifically to go to this page of their website. Amazing. https://t.co/vXQSI2dpUS pic.twitter.com/H3mChxFaq4 — Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) January 10, 2022 take a close look at their second line agents, ie what you're supposed to take if the ivermectin doesn't ward off covid pic.twitter.com/Wmg0uJvJTQ — twinkbride pearl (@twinkbride) January 9, 2022 holy shit this is a higher daily dosage of spiro and finasteride than /I/, a trans woman take ahahahahahahaha "transing myself to own the libs" https://t.co/WZg433o6dz — Lady Jane Gay (@meimeimeixie) January 10, 2022 I've been on HRT for 9 months and that's my dosage of spironolactone wtf https://t.co/BIzfaV3fCv — , Catgirl Doll- Soy, Oat, 2% (@Trans_Girl_Lily) January 10, 2022 accidentally transing my gender to own the libs https://t.co/2NpAhrmCOz — c a i t (yassified) (@kittynouveau) January 10, 2022 Y'all. Y'all. Spiro is what trans femmes take to reduce testosterone. I am, right now, taking exactly 100 mgs 2 x a day. Anti-vaxxers are force femming themselves and tbh I am curious to see where this goes. https://t.co/Hqu1gLOpAq — (@AshDabbath) January 10, 2022 Willing to bet every single person who tries will have a much easier time getting it then actual trans people too. https://t.co/frqi8JqCd7 — Shaun (@DarkcerbShaun) January 10, 2022 Hypocrisy knows no bounds—and that’s a real problem not just ideologically speaking, but because it can contribute to serious harm. Gender-affirming medical care is necessary care. It is life-saving. No media outlet should be spreading anti-trans hysteria about life-saving treatment… and for the same network to promote the same medicines as part of anti-science fearmongering is just shameful. Have you had luck talking to someone against or apprehensive about the COVID-19 vaccine and changing their mind, or even just opening up their perspective? Disproving a dangerous treatment option? The world can feel deeply exhausting at this point, so it’s extra important to celebrate the wins where we have them, and reading one another’s successes can add to our arsenal should we find ourselves in the position to educate a friend or loved one, too.
Can’t remember if it was posted in here or not but I think the bit about viagra being a possible treatment might have some legs. There have been other smaller studies that vasodilators might have therapeutic effects.
I mean we all knew it had to be done but it was p annoying hearing them sorta go "ehhhhh we still have current inventory" about it, even though they were definitely working on it anyway. Moderna's "lets jump on this shit now" position was nice
Embarrassing, but they are kids. The justifications for this will go on and on though as the variants appear and their youth disappears. The only reason schools should be closed now is due to staff shortages, it is a difficult position but won’t be resolved by trying March 2020 tactics.
The Spanish government has worked for several weeks on a plan to approach the COVID-19 disease as if it was the common flu, EURACTIV’s partner EFE reported, quoting El País. Official sources told El País that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is trying to open the same debate at the EU level. The Spanish government, a coalition of the socialist party (PSOE) and left-wing Unidas Podemos (United We Can), is currently finalising the plan to manage COVID-19 as another respiratory disease. In practical terms, this would mean moving away from a system of detailed surveillance of infections, and instead, estimating how the disease spreads based on meaningful samples collected by health professionals, El País and EFE reported. Asked about this plan, in an exclusive interview aired on Monday by private radio station Cadena SER, Sánchez confirmed that the government has been “working on it (the plan) for (several) weeks (…)”. It is now up to the people responsible for managing the pandemic at the Spanish Centre for the Coordination of Alerts and Health Emergencies (CCAES) and the Alerts Committee to accept, amend or reject it. “It is a debate that we are already trying to open at the EU level; the Minister of Health (Carolina Darias) has raised it with various European health ministers”, Sánchez added. In his opinion, it is “a necessary debate” because thanks to research and science we have “the answer to protect ourselves and reduce infections among the population as far as we can”. The socialist PM also spoke about the significant drop in mortality during the sixth wave, marked by the Omicron variant. Compared to the average 13% mortality rate during the first wave, he said the current one lies at 1%. https://www.euractiv.com/section/politics/short_news/spain-wants-eu-to-manage-covid-as-common-flu/
If washing after touching, why the concern to not touch the outside? Hasn't it been determined that touching stuff isn't driving transmission?
Alternate version: On the other side of the bar, socially distanced and wearing masks, another group of 20 gathered. They were there to support each other, as their adult children has passed from Covid due to being unvaccinated. The group would have been 5-10 times as large, but they were taking precautions to keep themselves and the families of their recently deceased offspring safe.
Nice. They can then post up with M16s in the school when class is in session to prevent mass shootings. Win win!
Hey man thank you for driving a school bus. No one ever says anything about bus drivers but y'all are in the shit every day. My school system has a massive shortage. It's a hard, thankless job.
From “took our jobs” to “won’t take jabs”. Smh. A foreign spam account probably posted this somewhere.
They provide masks for all employees and students. But they are just common medical masks. I buy my own n95's. I also pay for black and Grey masks for the students out of my own pocket because the provided masks are that powder blue color that doesn't match anything. I also buy black child size masks. The elementary aged kids don't have a prayer of being able to fit the adult sized masks. I mean, you'd think that a school district would be smart enough to buy child-sized masks, but you'd be wrong. Also, mask usage is mandatory for all employees and students in school or on a bus.
Also Edit: i always thought he would do poorly (because of his size) if he ever got Covid. I guess we will see.

On Jan. 2, Ontario’s test positivity stood at 34.3%. It has been on a downward trend for nine days now, an indication that the virus may have hit a peak. “The rate of increase on hospitalizations seems to be slowing and the rate of positivity on our PCR network also seems to be slowing,” said Matt Anderson, the CEO of Ontario Health. The province’s test positivity rate dropped to 24.4%, the lowest level since Boxing Day.
That's the only one of those awful black and white American flag decals I'd get, but with yellow for school bus driers.
Second this my wife works out of town and leaves early so I would be a total mess without school buses.
Things appear to be going great here in Dallas. Finally at the forth gas station I pulled into to get a bag of ice did I find a place that was open. Different parts of town and all different companies. I am assuming covid/staffing.
I've only seen it 20 times with my kid, but I think that's what Elsa accidentally does to Anna in Frozen.
Holy shit. He can say something that I find no fault with. Well kind of. 10s of millions might be slight hyperbole but I’ll allow it in this instance.
This is his play for re-election. He's going to take all the credit for the vaccine and saving lives and I don't care. As long as he keeps pushing people (his cult) to get vaxxed, it's fine by me.
There are so many mother fuckers that should be making license plates for the state for the rest of their life over covid issues. We are at a point where a large percentage of our country is not only okay with, but actually supportive of falsifying anything to get the desired result. These are not the morals I or anyone I know was raised with and sadly, plenty of people I know have quickly went from feeling morally superior to being fine with that whatever means necessary to reach the their goal.
MIL just lives in her own world sometimes. she didnt take her to urgent care for some dumb reason and claimed the wait was too long. she herself went today tho and popped positive. i went to urgent care today because i have a scratchy throat. tested negative on rapid which while i realize isnt perfect, is still better than a positive. so now my MIL, despite having it, the baby almost assuredly having it as well as the 3 year old, has decided now is the time to drop the kids back off on the only house that has shown a negative test this week. i get it sucks having to deal with a sick kid (and maybe two) but throwing them back at us and likely causing my wife and i to miss work when we inevitably get something is a real fun decision
