That's a good question. Because it's not really "off-label" because it's not labeled for anything. I know we have pretty firm guidelines that we're supposed to stick to per the IDSA, so I know I wouldn't be comfortable going all cowboy dolling it out to people not covered under the EUA it's usually not an issue. There's usually some mild chronic health issue you can round up on, and everyone in this country has a bmi>25, so I can honestly say I haven't had to wrestle with it yet. I also think most bigger healthcare orgs like mine have test-->treat protocols so I don't have to touch a lot of these mild/moderate cases.
My MIL passed it on to our family over the weekend. She was a 4 shot person, my wife and I are 3 shots and the two oldest are 2 shots. 4 year old gets the sickest usually but luckily she didn't really get affected by it. 3/5 have caught it at this point.
I'm the only that had anything beyond a low fever for a day. Started feeling bad Tuesday afternoon, slept most of yesterday with a fever, feeling better with a bit of a cough developing today. We managed to keep away from it for 2 years.
had to take the 3 y.o. to the emergency room this AM. Super lethargic, not drinking anything, fever came back, cough worse with some accelerated breathing chest x-ray with bilateral basilar opacities. STILL covid negative.
ngl to me the most conspicuous thing off the bat for the hepatitis cases in kids, to me, is the immune evasion mechanisms omicron does. Downregulating stuff like interferon and mhc1 doesnt just help its own infection cycle, but other infections slip in as well, as well as how well and quickly they resolve, esp young naive-to-most-things peoples' systems. Obviously its all on the table right now to nail down a culprit, but the almost simultaneous international clusterings make it hard to imagine much else. It's just a suspicion though. Hopefully we know soon. Jfc hope the kid is feeling better now
They only do RSV/flu/covid. Nothing comprehensive Sure as fuck would love to know what this asshole virus's name is
If she's not a good chunk better by tomorrow, I think I'll have her pediatrician do exactly that. Thanks She got tanked up on fluids and now back home. Both her and our 8 m.o. are just sleepy as hell. Whatever this one is, it's fucking nasty
There have been some nasty bugs running around that aren’t COVID. That’s for sure. I have my second cold in the last 2 months. 5 year old keeps bringing them home…
it's been a nonstop parade of 'ruses in our household for sure. I'm baffled how none of them have been named covid-19 and we test like paranoid people. Haven't had any that have nailed us quite like this, and our son was hospitalized for RSV this past September. Just some real motherfuckers running through daycares right now. We definitely saw an uptick in <5 covid hospitalizations since January, but most of those were co-infected with something else. My hunch is while newer variants are worse news for kids than the OG strain, covid still isn't the worst shit going around for them.
The wording is confusing. Are they dropping the voluntary screwing or are they adding mandatory screwing? The limitations of the English language interfere with my ability to make travel plans.
I just pop into this thread every so often to humble myself that covid is still fucking shit up, still the most terrifying thread on this board
I’m feeling fine, thanks guys. Mild sore throat, mucus in my throat, a post nasal and nasal drip. All very mild. No fever, 99 O2 sat. Hope it stays this way. I am going to see if I can get Paxlovid. Trying through CVS first. Would welcome any suggestions on getting some! May call my doctors office tomorrow as well to see if my doctor will call my back.
If CVS/Walgreen's don't have Paxlovid, you might try Walmart or Kroger. https://covid-19-test-to-treat-locator-dhhs.hub.arcgis.com/ https://covid-19-therapeutics-locator-dhhs.hub.arcgis.com/
Thanks. No Krogers in my neck of the woods. Hopefully CVS comes through. Just need a doc to write a Rx. Will have to skip my atorvastatin for a a week I’m reading.
If you're on atorvastatin, in my mind you'd likely qualify as someone at elevated risk. Would hope someone would write you a script hope you're out the other end of this soon
I had gotten mine from a cvs. MA has a site that tracks inventory and my doctor prescribed it to the location that had some in stock. Had to stop my statin as well. Just a heads up - it funks your taste buds up after each dose. Everything tasted a little off and metallic-y for a few hours at least. Hope it’s an easy course of Recovery if any.
The missus had a lot of cases of RSV come through in the past couple of months. A lot of them pretty nasty. There’s a couple other virii swirling around in the school pool as well, causing some heavy symptoms. Hope the kid pulls through fine.
my kid had really bad rsv in january. 104 fever and oxygen levels in the low to mid 80s. had to be hospitalized for a night.
Morning update: Morning after needing IVF for being in a nearly obtunded state of dehydration, daughter woke me up at 615, fully dressed, wanting to go for an owl hunt. Fuckin kids, man Spoiler
Basically what I had, some very slight aches, and felt basically 100% after two days without any other treatment. Was a lot more annoying having to go to multiple sick visits, blood draws, and submitting saliva samples at the Moderna trial site at Emory than quarantining from the family.
Dad's friend went to the hospital after the fourth shot, with a 102 fever and aches and stomach issues. Fever is too high so i get it. Maybe a bad reaction, kept him 3 days Then dad told me they gave him antibiotics, and he's going back for a broncoscopy. Probably means he just had a separate infection at the same time, no? Dad then counters "but it STARTED with the shot" Goddammit here we go again
yes, probably a bacterial infection. did he get the shot at home in a bubble or did he have to go somewhere that sick people go?
