I’ve been wondering this as well. It’s probably impossible to understand the direct impact of just deaths because everyone is so spread out. One way too look at it is we basically lost all of Delaware and then some. I’d imagine that’s not good for the ole GDP measurement

I don’t mean this in any way to minimize the impacts of Covid, but the vast majority of deaths are from population cohorts that you would not expect to be in the workforce. Immigration restrictions probably play a bigger role than Covid deaths.

COVID also pushed a lot of folks at or near retirement age to just call it quits. If I recall correctly this had a major impact on trucking which was mostly an older demographic

By the way, there are still millions of people convinced that a "cocktail" of hydroxychloroquine and zinc is an effective covid-19 treatment.

Wow cant believe they asserted something stupid with no proof so we could be diplomatic to the infection-mediated immunity morons.

Also apparently that hardly works. I guess we're going to be seeing papers on sequelae rates for people with several recent infections soon

Yea, but there’s certainly less of them now then when the pandemic started….so that’s a good thing

A huge chunk of boomers also decided that now (the pandemic) was a good time to retire (or die). And there’s not enough to backfill all those positions.

And of course the lack of immigration and J1 visas has been huge detriment.

And those that do often don’t have adequate retirement built up to retire at that age.

I'll forever mask on a plane now. Thinking back it was stupid not to in the past. Some of the worst colds I've ever had I got on a plane. That and just being sick away from home blows.

My mom (72) just tested positive. I used this website (https://covid-19-therapeutics-locator-dhhs.hub.arcgis.com/) to find Paxlovid but all the places say she needs a prescription from her doctor who isn't available until tomorrow.

Is there a good way to find a place that tests and treats?

Sounds like you've already done this, but it's prob good to know of a few pharmacies in your area that have it on hand. Just anecdotal, but I think Walmart has pretty good supply of it in certain areas.

I am curious if anyone knows if production of Covid tests are still ramped up? I was wondering if you will start seeing them at more mainstream places such as grocery stores, Costco, etc.

Moderna’s Covid-19 Vaccine Targeting Omicron Produces Stronger Immune Response
Experimental vaccine, designed to fight Omicron and original virus, found to be more effective against new variant than current shot

Moderna Inc. said a modified Covid-19 booster shot provided a stronger immune response than the company’s original vaccine against the Omicron variant in a new study.

The Cambridge, Mass., company said Wednesday it will submit preliminary data from the study to U.S. health regulators in the coming weeks with the hope of making the modified booster shot available in late summer.

Researchers found that the levels of neutralizing antibodies against Omicron among people getting the modified shot were 1.75 times higher than in people who received a booster shot of the original vaccine, Moderna said.

They are in my experience. I tested negative twice last week with the at home tests. Symptoms weren't getting better so I went in to my doctor assuming I had a URI or bronchitis or something. Instead, I have covid.

It's also really weird how different it is this time compared to having OG covid Jan of last year. Completely different symptoms this time.

Is it possible I tested too early with the at-home? Symptoms started last Monday. I took one then and then on Wednesday. Both negative.

Tested positive this Monday at the clinic.

I can already see how this plays out. Approval gets slow walked, goes into mass production, then here comes a new variant that this targeted vaccine is worthless against.
