The network that has doctors sell covid killing holy water is driving our government's medical response to a pandemic
My TL is flooded with people saying it's a Dem conspiracy and not that big a deal. I hope they all get it.
Who are the knuckle draggers in this thread trying to do their best Clay Travis? The President had a chart last week showing 2.2 million dead if no social distancing and 100-240K in perfect conditions, you dumb fucks.
Season ended March 31st so I've been home since then. Everyone home was on quarantine for a while before that. We have some off-season work we need to do but that's obviously on hold. Im just glad that the price of lobster more or less held steady somehow and the government gave us a pass to offload the catch during the quarantine. Stone crab was another story. We don't get a lot of it because it's basically by-catch and occasionally you'll find one underneath a condo. But normally we split up the stone crab among the crew and you can sell it, keep it, whatever. It was impossible to get a real price for it when we got in. I currently have ~70lbs sitting in my freezer until this blows over. Small potatoes compared to the lobster but I thought it was interesting that the lobster market held and the stone crab cratered.
yeah, there are more phases of this. NY and Cali are phase 2 (with Seattle being phase 1). Gotta get through Florida before we really know what’s up. And that’s not factoring in a fall wave.
Thankfully for me, it looks like SC has finally decided to take this serious, though Lowes is still gonna be packed. Not good for me was the 15% pay cut that went to leadership at my place of employment, which hit my wife as well.
That's the point of the Supreme Court case: the WI governor tried to allow people who requested absentee ballots before the deadline, but didn't get them in time because the state was shut down, to turn their absentee ballots and have them counted after the date of the election. The WI supreme court said "nope" and the US Supreme Court said, "hahaha fuck the Libs."
i generally give olds a pass on not using technology because i've had access to a computer since i was like 5. but Zoom is extremely intuitive and easy to use (imo) so i kind of think it's bullshit that some of the sharpest minds in the country get a pass on not learning how to use it
Boggles my mind that so many military types support him. Like you want someone with this disposition sending you into wars? Nevermind the fact we don't know his financial ties to foreign countries so you can never truly trust that his decisions are without conflicts of interest Really wish a reporter would ask if he'd be willing to release his tax returns and disclose all his financial holdings to prove he wouldn't profit off these experimental treatments
it's also bullshit because oral argument is a waste of everyone's time. If you didn't convince the judges with 40 page brief you spent a year researching and writing, you aren't going to convince them with 40 minutes of question and answer time.
that's possible. i've only ever used it for much more casual stuff but is it actually a security concern when we are talking about oral arguments that go into the public record anyway?
i would actually be curious about the security vulnerabilities in Zoom unless there is some way to get access to active rooms that you haven't been invited to, it's not like you're intercepting signals over a radio or something i assume it has to do with vulnerabilities related to a specific computer's webcam... but high level officials use some kind of secure video chat all the time
was in front of the 7th circuit in 2018, their decision just came out and didn't really address anything we talked about at oral arguments
i mean if you can memorize some esoteric ruling from 1810 i think you can click on a zoom link and talk into a camera
I used to be of the mind that he needs to suffer as much as possible, but at this point I no longer believe he is capable of feeling the effects in a way that would be anywhere near punishing enough or satisfying for any of us. It pays to be a complete psychopath I suppose.
also one tech-related thing that has killed me is how shitty the home setups for a lot of these big time journalists are people who get 4 viewers on twitch sound and look better
Saw something in the NY Times about how virtual instruction has allowed students' socioeconomic situations to be more apparent. Campus was the equalizer
yeah i think a lot of people just assume that everyone has broadband internet at home. i imagine there are a fair number of families who buy their kids phones and pay for internet access through that and don't own a home computer, and a phone screen isn't exactly an ideal way to learn algebra if you're 14 or whatever
we've never seen a better example of why internet needs to be treated like a utility than this crisis
it is kind of weird how this hasn't come up in the "people can just work from home!" fervor no wait it actually isnt weird at all
Oral arguments I could see on Zoom, but it would be clunky and weird. Justices talking among themselves would hopefully be private. I'm not going to argue that they shouldn't, aside from not wanting this court to make any decisions, just sharing what I've been told is an issue with Zoom.
Grades and school in general, right now, are pretty much a total farce. It’s a way to keep the kids engaged and hopefully not let them fall too far behind. However, with so many variables and kids without much support at home be it technologically and/or parentally, you cannot truly hold anyone to a specific standard (I do not care if a school is passing out chromebooks). Right now, it’s pretty clear that Ohio specifically is just doing this in phases to not give kids that mental nod of “SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER”, when we all know that it really is. I’ll say this to any parent who is still getting really stressed about keeping your kids on top of their class work as — just do the best you can, that’s it.
Michigan is doing the same. Trying to keep some processes and routine in place, but not penalizing the non-participants.
Man if you’re still not sure whether you can stomach to eat a little more shit in your life to have Biden and Schumer (as maj leader) appointing the next SCOTUS, I suggest you start sniffing your own farts more and make big plans to elect better progressives in 2022. The GOP is systemically fucking this country for the next 50 years and must be stopped in November.
