The agency said nearly 75% of the 43 vaccinated people who died were fighting a serious underlying condition, such as diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer or chronic lung disease. Additionally, it said 95% of the 43 vaccinated people who died were 60 or older, and that a majority of them were white and a majority were men.
It's fucking wild to read people's twitter feeds as they die realtime. July 10th: fuck covid vaccines July 15th: I don't feel very good July 21st: if you don't believe Jesus and prayer can heal me then get out of my ICU room and take your ventilator with you! July 22nd: intubate me please! (End of feed) Like, how do all these people will themselves to type out a tweet in the midst of respiratory failure?
For being so "humble," dude did everything he could in his...uh....last tweets, to avoid telling others to not make the same mistakes he did.
Anecdotal story time: Co-worker in Chicago who went to Mexico last week with his family (all masked up the entire time but had to spend hours in the airport going through customs on both ends) all tested positive by PCR even though rapid tests were negative for everyone but the youngest (3 yo). He and his wife are vaccinated but all of his kids are under 12 so they aren't. He's experiencing some aches and pains but not really feeling sick. His three kids seem mostly okay and the three year old is the most active of all despite being positive for both tests. I forget who posted the article from researchers at UCSF (I think) saying that the PCR threshold may be way too low for the Delta variant now and that having viral particles in your nose that show up on PCR may not necessarily rise to the level of a positive case. Basically none of them would have shown up as positive cases had one of the older kids not been feeling more ill two days ago which led him to insist they all get both rapid and PCR tests.
Perhaps it’s callous to say Stephen’s family and friends are better off without his destructive idiotic presence. But I’m saying it.
Is there just a straight up graph of republicans dying by day? People wondering why GOP leaders are all so strongly on message about vaccines all of a sudden. It's because thousands of p much exclusively republicans are dying every single day and it's not going down.
Pretty ...(hilarious) how many times over the years any number of us has shared the sentiment that we can't fix anything until a bunch of *ahem* expire, and now it might be happening?
I'm almost certain there's a data scientist employed in each Red state gov whose job it is to scrape death certs/covid incidence with voter registration
"Changing batteries in smoke detectors is a libtard conspiracy" heh heh that'll keep em whipped up for a little wh...
Out of the ones that died and were vaccinated, I wonder how old they were and if any had underlying health issues.
cite? CDC data says daily deaths currently are in the 200-300 range. Curious how "thousands of republicans are dying every single day".
It’s impossible for me to feel an ounce of empathy for someone like that. We have enough breakthrough cases where people are down for only a few days and never approach hospitalization to indicate that the vaccine is also effective in mitigating the worst effects of the illness.
My secretary hasn't gotten the vaccine and saw no need for it. She just asked me which one she should get because she's had a few friends get really sick with the Delta recently. Hopefully, more people will take notice.
Somehow I missed this. SIAP UPDATE: Conroe ISD now says they will require students who test positive for COVID to stay home The change comes two days after saying that students who tested positive but didn’t have a fever of over 100 could stay in school. https://www.khou.com/mobile/article...home/285-af72c8e1-8a80-4f21-9e63-f43d8cbaab42 So the initial plan of the school district was to just let students who are literally infected with covid stay in school. I’m glad they reversed it but I wonder how many other districts are going to go forward with letting students come to school who are knowingly infected.
question for parents of kids age 5-11 will you have your kids wear a mask when school starts? mask won’t be required here. I wonder how many will wear one. Wonder if there will be bullying towards mask-wearing kids, especially in middle school.
I think the vaccine hesitancy pretty much boils down to a couple of things. There are people in this country that distrust authority (especially the “liberal” authority that they didn’t vote for) due to personal experiences and certain socioeconomic factors. Authority is offering them a free solution and their immediate reaction is “wait, what’s the catch?” Then there are people who rely on their emotions to make decisions rather than to problem solve to make the best decision possible when given the facts. If their friend or family tells them “don’t get the vaccine, have you heard _____?” That is going to be infinitely more impactful than and graph or statistic you show them. You see this in voting statistics. These people vote with their heart, not their mind. Despite being life and death, this is no different. There is no reasoning with them. They don’t rely on reason to make decisions. They would rather believe ridiculous conspiracy theories. These people are unfortunately going to have to experience suffering themselves or those close to them to understand. Really a microcosm of natural selection…unfortunately the vulnerable are still somewhat at risk. And of course let’s just all hope the virus doesn’t continue to mutate into something that can render our vaccines useless.
John McGuirk don't forget about African American folks who just don’t trust the govt due to many things example the Tuskegee Syphilis Study
I don’t know how the kids won’t just take them off as soon as they get there. The teachers won’t make them wear them. I understand most kids will listen to their parents but like you said if they’re getting bullied they may just throw the mask in their backpack as soon as they get to school. It’s just a sad situation and as a new parent it really is terrifying that kids lives are being put on the line for politics. Fucking ghouls.
Yes. Thankfully masks will be required indoors for school aged children here in San Diego, but even if they weren’t, I’d have my kids mask up. And this is in one of the highest vaccinated areas of the country no less. As for the bullying, it may happen but the alternative is worse. Good teaching moment for your kids about self responsibility and the importance of caring for others.
explain to your middle school kid, that anyone that has a good time in middle school is a fucking psycho and that it just gonna be something he has to tough out regardless
I remind everyone too that the Moderna and Pfizer trials did not regularly test us after the first two visits, we only got tested thereafter if we felt sick and informed them. It's quite possible they would have found a lot of asymptomatic and light symptomatic cases (that didn't reach enough of a concern to let the doctors know) in the vaccinated group. The AZ trial did this and it's one reason why its efficacy number is lower for asymptomatic cases than Pfizer's and Moderna's.
Not sure, I haven't paid much attention to the news about that one since it wasn't used very much here in the US.
