THey're next/currently up in every state...I'm assuming we're talking past essential workers being vaccinated.
I think you're assuming a whole lot of people are going to choose to get vaccinated. I'd be shocked if we got over 60% of the population vaccinated by the end of this year.
I don’t anticipate getting a vaccine until 2022 tbh. The roll out from the states/fed is abysmal. Cuomo really shit the bed
I mean I'm just spitballing now, but Pfizer and Moderna have pledged to have enough doses for 100 million people to get vaccinated by the end of Q1. I'm not confident that everyone who can get a vaccine will choose to do so by the end of March
also astrazeneca should have US approval pretty soon, and it is by far the largest US contract. but yeah, healthy adults who aren't old or 'essential' will be waiting a long while unless we get a bunch more supply and the logistics ramps up..
which factories? vaccine manufacturing, particularly those from moderna and pfizer/biontech, are not easily ported to other manufacturing facilities. lots of time and lots of money to do it.
Yep, and I'm assuming J&J will get EUA if it shows more than 50% efficacy and will be supplying lots of doses by late spring. I think they're slated to release their first batch of Phase III results before the end of the month. Edit: We're also likely talking about only people over 18 being able to get the shot right now. Quick googling tells me that's a little over 255 million in the US so Moderna + Pfizer should get us almost halfway there in terms of doses by end of March.
this has been my skepticism about using the DPA for manufacturing, I'm not even sure if it would help with how difficult and specialized these vaccines are to produce.
DPA can be used for other logistical things and items (glass vials, needles, etc.), but producing actual vials/doses of vaccine I am as skeptical as you are.
there has to be other uses for the DPA than just the vaccine. N95s have been in short supply. Doctors are still using reused equipment. Idk I am running out of space for the idea that it isn’t worth exploring more than what we’ve done this past year
Have they come up with a list of how they define a preexisting condition or is that just a free for all? I am in pretty bad health. Been hospitalized three times in the last 18 months and currently on long term disability. Doctors have only partially figured out why problems are happening. My primary care doctor says that I basically shouldn’t leave the house unless I absolutely have to but that he doesn’t think I would qualify to skip the line. But he thinks I’d be in big trouble if I get it. Much worse than someone with some of the conditions I’ve seen listed. But it seems that only people with a more popular diagnosis would qualify. Is my doctor wrong and there is some process? I have 10+ doctors at this point so I can likely get one to vouch for my issues if there is some waiver process. My primary care doc didn’t think there was.
wouldn’t pregnancy be considered a high risk condition fellas knock your significant others up asap also take up smoking
My aunt (Mom’s oldest sister) died today after a month in the hospital. Too much lung damage. Fuck this shit.
Their whole nuclear family got it right before Xmas, but she was the only one with serious symptoms. Talked to her right after she got diagnosed and seemed totally fine, was in the ICU two weeks later. Scary as shit.
May her memory be a blessing and I hope your family has the strength to endure through this terrible loss
Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think any of the trials were done on pregnant women. Are there risks with pregnant women getting the vaccine?
Did any of them test positive? Sadly this is why everyone was screaming for people to not meet each other indoors over the holidays. I'm really sorry to hear this
I hope that’s the case. Fortunately for J&J, part of OWS included the government fronting them funds and to scale up production. I’m pretty sure if the studies come up negative, it’s the government that is out the money.
This doesn’t really make sense. If the goal is 100M in 100 days (and most believe we can great exceed that), that means 100M by April 29th. We’d still have 145 days before fall. There’s only 265Mish 18+ in the US. There’s a chance that there’s that many doses produced by fall. Certainly normal people will be getting vaccinated during the summer. It’s not like that 1M people per day getting vaccinated is gonna stop or even slow down after the 100 days. Fauci himself said April or May for normal people to begin getting vaccinated is a reasonable expectation.
From this article, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/13/health/covid-vaccine-johnson-johnson.html This makes it sound somewhat in line with that tweet. J&J isn't expected to be able to help much until after Q1 when we really want this to be open to most of the public. Anything on the order of 50-100 million around April would be amazingly helpful.
Ok now do that at 30 locations across the state and we have a stew going Yes, I know we don’t have the supply for that
depends on how many people are administering shots my wife has been administering shots on her days off, and in a 8-10 hour shift she estimates she can get about 250-300 by herself she said she could get it down to less than a minute per person but it just depends bc some people need to be talked to to calm their nerves because they dont like needles edit: should also add idk what their workflow is at her hospital like if others take care of paperwork and maybe the time per visit is longer outside of what she is doing
A lot of pessimism going around. My whole family received their first shots yesterday in Texas (Tarrant County) including my 22 and 24 year old sisters. We can do this. The real thing we should be worrying about is people not returning for their second round. Supposedly that’s a problem already per the paramedics giving the shots to my family.
My fiancé’s grandpa is 91, a lifetime smoker, and has had 2 heart attacks got covid and beat it after spending like a few days in the ER. guy is hardened
Smh. Spent who knows how much to throw all those screened shows and let his guard down after all of it. And lord knows his lungs are shit. Damn.
