I got the 2nd dose of Moderna on Friday. I woke up Saturday morning with a hangover-esque headache but I wasn’t able to properly hydrate throughout Friday. My 85 year old grandmother got hers like 2 weeks ago and pretty much laughed her ass off that I had a reaction and she didn’t.
i really want to get nerdy and start talking about how representative even a 1000 sample would be based on method but oh no i did it anyways im nerdy
Yeah all the anecdotal evidence I've seen is that only people under 65 are having strong reactions to the second shot. Our older neighbors weren't convinced that was why, but at least they're open to getting shots.
I'm getting the opposite. My grandmother (94) spent two weeks in the hospital after the first shot, they told her not to get the second one. My wifes great aunt (73) had a stroke 2 days after the first shot as well. Grandma is not in great shape as is, she drinks too much for her age and has had a number of health issues, so it's possible it's unrelated but the timing was suspect. Wifes great aunt was fine for 73.
Not sure... the timing isn't great. It's pretty clear that with 70 million doses given out statistically there's going to be a lot of coincidences that get blamed on the vaccine, but i've seen a few close enough to me
isnt this like more people than got the covid trial 3 vaccines, which were now injecting into billions of people? Pretty sure that’s a good sample size
i can't speak to how legit/trustworthy this guy is but think this point at the end is a good conclusion to that write up obviously you have the concern of people hearing sensationalized stuff and just ignoring actual real warnings. but i think the bigger concern is people just giving up. vaccines going out, cases are falling, end is in sight. and then hearing there is this super strain that is gonna put us back to square one and it is just gonna make people give up completely. what's the point of getting the vaccine or having hope when there is this devil strain that makes both of those things somewhat useless
I'm not saying that you can't have messaging that masking is still going to be important after getting the vaccine, but public health professionals are going to really have to grapple with if they want to continue that messaging in April or May if people are very hesitant at getting vaccinated.
I've followed him a lot during the pandemic. From what I've seen, he's very legit. Professor of Infectious Diseases, and did a lot of research into the SARS-Cov-2 genome.
Question that has been bothering me about the vaccination process. Biden has been touting the availability of the vaccine for 300 million by July, but this vaccine hasn’t been cleared for children. As I understand it, a pediatric version of the vaccine may be needed, which might look a little different that the adult version and won’t be available for months. There are “only” ~250 million adults in the US. How does this all fit together?
googled that and the first article explains it pretty clearly: President Biden said Thursday that his administration had finalized deals for another 200 million doses of the two coronavirus vaccines authorized in the United States, giving the country enough vaccine by the end of July to cover every American adult.
Headline from Wapo says “Biden says US will have enough vaccine for 300 million people by end of July.” Sub headline says “the administration used options in existing contracts to purchase another 200 million doses, increasingly supply by 50%.”
I mean, the easiest way to get the vaccine if you aren’t eligible is to volunteer for a few hours. The rich are the ones with the most flexible schedules to be able to volunteer. So still they are privileged more than the working class.
It’s not complicated, it’s one of two things for the privileged white folk: 1. Mom can’t be bothered to work with kids schooling at home and wants to go back to her care-free stay-at-home lifestyle. 2. The parents need babysitters so they aren’t bothered while working because it’s a lot of work (or are being hounded by management to “get back to normal”).
3. Republicans hate teachers and public education, so they don't care if teachers get sick or die. They're just fucking sociopaths.
It is amazing how many conservatives I know who don't have school-age children have said to me the schools need to open, or put signs in their yards saying "Save Our Children, Open Our Schools." It is just part of the ongoing war on teachers and public education.
