They are so afraid of the right wing media personalities calling their journalistic integrity into question that they’d rather just let trump do whatever he wants and claim “unbiased journalist” than actually do their job.
THIS IS VERY ALARMING!! The IHME Covid death projection was updated overnight. A week ago it projected 230,000 deaths by November 1. Now it projects 249,000. But that’s not the worst. It projects 295,000 by December 1! If prevention policies are relaxed it could go up to 400,000 by December 1. In their documentation they point out that the model might be over-estimating the impact of school reopenings. They assume that colder weather will lead to an increase in spread. They also add that both the CDC and HHS are not sharing much data with researchers.

IL cracks 2k new cases for the first time since May. VA cracks 2k for the first time after a previous high of 1,615 set back in May. There are pretty much only three kinds of curves. Early spike and relatively contained (NJ, NY, CT), a gradual ramp up (NC, GA, TX), and then a number of other states with an early bump, containment, and then resurgence in July. A few of those have early dips in later July and early August but it may be a testing situation rather than any semblance of control.
been wavering around 10% but testing is a mess right now. Tests down about 50% this week versus last week. Likely because of test site closures due to the hurricane that could have but didn’t really hit. going to need to see what things look like next week but there is some optimism that despite deathsantis’ best efforts, a lot of Floridians started wearing masks and things have at worst stabilized. no idea what high school sports and school will do to that but hopefully we are at least plateauing cases.
