Seems like the important part of that last tweet is "once therapeutics are developed" which is not promising for this fall.

1 player gets sick, they quarantine him and test teammates daily.

I tend to think most of our new experts here on the board are over complicating things...France is already opening up schools, let that sink in.

There’s no reason a football team can’t abide by similar rules

France has a way more unified, coherent response to this — after initial stumbles that Macron has admitted to — than we do. Not a good example. I just get annoyed with premature scoreboarding. Let’s get through the reopenings without backsliding first instead of spiking the ball at the 30.

There’s no point in arguing this as it can’t be proven, but I have a hunch we’re going to have football and the solutions is going to be a derivation of that extremely simple solution.

    I wouldn’t be so dismissive

There will likely be football eventually due to the financial ramifications for athletic departments, but I think there’s a better shot of it being delayed (perhaps until spring) than starting on time. And having people in the seats? I’d be shocked if that’s in play.

And people are complicating it because it is complicated. Lot more in play than “one guy gets sick, cross him off and charge ahead.”

That goes without saying. Barbells get wiped down after every lift, staggered workouts, gloves, mandatory handwashing, masks...plus alot of testing, I'm sure there are plenty of provisions and measures that would have to be implemented. Stadiums at 20% capacity.

But it's not like France is opening up their country with science fiction technology, all these measures are reasonably well understood and well within our capability. I think this "United States is the worse, it's so mismanaged, we're fucked, there's no way we can do what other countries do" mentality is dumb.

Would love to hear your obvious problems that couldn't be solved without a moment's consideration.

Why would he play? Because the chance of this affecting him in a meaningful way is near zero. By the way, most of CFB isn't made of Trevor Lawrences. There are alot more guys trying to make a practice squad or just get drafted because there alternative career prospects are not very strong. To think a bunch of 18-22 year olds who already think their invincible wouldn't follow Saban / Dabo / their couch in to battle is pretty nutty to me.

Do you think you are smarter than Dr. Fauci when it comes to epidemiology and virology?

Do you think you could’ve chosen a better comparison than France? Were you aware France cancelled their Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons?

Do you read? Did you see his opener at the NFL draft? I'm confused about what point your making. Ligue 1 and 2 seasons would be starting now, not four months from now.

It is you who need to choose better comparisons my guy

You have to get students on campus attending classes before any of this shit even comes into play. Universities aren't making students play football before their campuses at large are open. Lots of things need to happen and not cause outbreaks before we can even consider having amateur students play a sport. And 20% capacity? Getting it to the point of playing in completely empty stadiums is ambitious enough right now.

The NFL has a much better chance of starting on time than college because there are a lot fewer liability concerns when it comes to professional athletes, plus professional athletes aren't a segment of a larger university community. The Saints will be playing before the Tide are.

There are currently several things that could complicate things. You're only negative at the time you took the test. Are all schools going to test athletes/staff/officials the mornings of the games? There are also things like asymptomatic spread, variations in length of incubation/being-infectious windows, and lag time between infection and symptoms.

    https://www.espn.com/espn/story/_/i...i-promotes-single-site-fan-free-return-sports

"Dr. Anthony Fauci, the United States’ leading infectious disease expert, said professional sports returning this year while the coronavirus pandemic recedes is possible — under very specific circumstances.

“There’s a way of doing that,” Fauci said on “Good Luck America,” an in-house interview series from Snapchat, a social media platform. “Nobody comes to the stadium. Put them in big hotels wherever you want to play. Keep them very well-surveilled and have them tested, like every week, and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family and just let them play the season out.

Wow - apparently it is that simple. What high tech measures this is going to require, my lord!!!!! Keep them away from people and make sure to test them? Wow, how will we figure this out. There's no way this is going to be possible

"Currently" is the operative word there buddy. Macron is on record saying opening up is dependent on a future testing capability which apparently he's confident enough to make a public stance. He would never make that promise unless he was sure.

I fully expect our testing capability to be fine by July in order for sports to happen.

Regarding the French leagues closing, that's because the season is literally right now. We're talking about the Fall

    You're not wrong re: NFL.

Maybe man, I can't predict the future. The way things are trending across the globe and in this country though, I'd be surprised if no football or even highly delayed football. Fauci laid out a blueprint for summer MLB so Fall football seems achievable.

Idk, not authoritative on the topic - just applying logic. Edit: which is what we're all doing

the idea you can just isolate everyone involved with a pro sport for huge amounts of time, likely away from their families, doesnt pass the sniff test to me

like MAYBE you could get the NBA just fast forwarding to the playoffs under an isolation system for a month? maybe?

I just think we're way too early in this country to say anything is trending. I'd like to get through a few reopenings first. My fear is that the early reopenings in Georgia and Missouri and similar states are going to retrigger some backsliding because they were done before the 14-day period of steady decline in cases/hospitalizations that was suggested was in effect. Hell, Georgia was increasing when it announced. Also, reopenings aren't uniform and staggered. While that makes sense with the size and the uneven way in which certain parts of this country has been infected, it also makes it extremely complicated to restart an entire sport. The SEC might be open, but the ACC could be half-and-half, the Pac-12 could be completely closed, the Big 12 could be a spotty mess, the Big Ten could be partially and completely closed. That's not even factoring in insurance, liability, how to manage entire campuses plus employees (coaches, trainers, support staffs, stadium workers, media, TV production, hotel workers, etc.) to keep them sequestered and traced and prevent outbreaks. There are a lot of details that need to be ironed out -- and that's before introducing fans to the equation.

It would greatly impact my life from a job security standpoint to have sports go on, business as usual, in the fall. It's just a very complicated equation to make that work.
