Odds don't seem great. If they would bubble up rn and wait for all of the positives to disappear, they could be playing first or second week of Sept.
The article quoting Jeff Choate is the best thing I’ve read in months on sports & covid. He takes on the entire system (and recognizes where he sits in it)
Not one uga player has opted out. They want to play too. Let’s hope it happens. Let the very very very few who don’t want to play sit it out.
There are still non-college student humans that think there will be a college football season? Amazing
fuck yes. i legit can’t wait to lap up the tears from clay and ugafish who’s callous idiocy and general deplorable existence has resulted in thousands dead and a cancelled season. they fucking deserve it
clay’s reactionary, coronabro politics has led me to this point and he should be ashamed at his role in this
real pieces of shit, don’t want to continue to put billions into the pockets of other people who don’t deserve anything.
I’ve been on #teamcovid from the beginning so this is amazing! I’m so glad to have stuck it out with this pesky virus during these trying times. For a second I thought the us would get its shit together and pull this out and I was quite scared. Fortunately, wishing me away like a little fucking bitch (cough ugafish cough) didn’t work. #WeWin
I know I don't have to point this out for *this* crowd (mostly) but like, players wanting to play really doesn't fucking matter. Coaches wanting to play, doesn't fucking matter. ADs wanting to play doesn't fucking matter. There are people who have the expertise to make this call and none of them exist within the hierarchy of a collegiate athletic department or amongst student body.
Hear me out though. What if everybody just did whatever they wanted, regardless of how it impacted other people?
I think it's also not entirely accurate either. 400+ guys in the PAC 12 did not like playing under the conditions they were forced to play under. Numerous schools have had issues brought up by players who were uncomfortable. Places like CSU and UCF were shutdown because of players speaking out. So simply saying "they all want to play" leaves out a lot of context. If it's safe I'm sure they do want to play but a lot of places had guys who were not comfortable with how things were handled.
To be clear, I think we’re going to get a few games and then season will be canceled but I don’t get this take. Everyone knows there is a potentially lethal virus out there, and if players (who are actually facing the danger) are willing to assume the risk and evaluate it as acceptably low, that’s a big deal. A handful here and a handful there won’t do it though, but it’s naive to think if there was an overwhelming movement from the players to say screw it lets play, it wouldn’t affect decision making.
The players may face the greatest risk of exposure but they absolutely do not face the greatest danger, nor is the danger limited to the team. Nor are players adequately equipped to evaluate the risks associated with COVID.
