First of all - what happened to Gordon Gee? He was the Chancellor at Vanderbilt, then Ohio State and now he's at WVU?? Woof. But that sentiment (we're gonna play no matter what) is really the only thing that keeps me confident. One way or another, football is happening. Specifics don't really matter at this point because we don't know how bad the 2nd wave is going to be, how much testing capacity we'll have, but they'll play. Just watch
we could very easily have had football this fall but idiots like bertstare and rockportraider spent all their time protesting to go to their local pew pew gun range and thus spreading the virus instead of spending their time on something more beneficial like jumping in front of a train
Gee was President of WVU in the early 80s as well. We were the first school to give him a chance to be President
We already claim 16, we're going for 17 brother Edit: we actually claim 17, we're going for 18 brother
ACC and big 10 could be interesting and go either way but i say they give it a go. I think the SEC and big 12 give it a go for sure and pac 12 doesn’t. Even if the situation gets worse, the SEC isn’t skipping a football season. Maybe they move it to spring but they will play.
I feel like this has been said over and over but there are other bad outcomes - outside of death - that come with contracting this.
OSU and Clemson would probably find a way to go rogue if their conferences don’t try to play this fall, so I presume the leagues are just going to fall in line and see what happens.
I want to believe him, but I can’t help but hear “I just hope Tressel doesn’t dismiss me!” every time he talks.
There is concern throughout MLB that a second wave of the coronavirus will send the country back into lockdown in the fall just as playoffs are coming to a crescendo. “It would be absolutely horrible to get through this season, get into the World Series, and then have two teams racked with COVID infections, cancelling everything,’’ Glenn Copeland, medical advisor for the Toronto Blue Jays and QuestCap, told USA TODAY Sports. Officials had previously considered the possibility of extending the season into as late as December, but that idea has been scraped and now there is strong sentiment that the World Series must conclude by the first week of November.
i guarantee there are numerous kids playing that have some kind of health issue that make this higher risk for them. just because it isn’t visible to genius rockport doesn’t mean there aren’t at risk kids
I’ll never forget Ryan Clark almost dying because he has sickle cell anemia playing, and while playing in Denver it flared up. He lost his entire season after that and couldn’t play in Denver ever again.
I think people underestimate how determined some people, especially the older generation, is for life to go on as normal. My Uncle, who I'm fairly close with, has bone marrow cancer, they've got him on Chemo and have done a full bone marrow transplant. He's probably going to die in the next 5 years but his quality of life is fine right now and he has a new baby grandchild. He has no immune system at the moment, his risk could not be higher. He just doesn't care / take it seriously. They're still having people over to their house, maintaining some distancing, making people bring their own wine glasses and wine, washing hands etc.....but that's it. No masks, gloves, no PPE. Told him he's crazy, basically told me to mind my own business. It's wild, just doesn't give a fuck. Tried to talk to my Aunt, she loves her husband but is just like "whatever happens, happens." Maybe it's because their kids are out of the nest and doing fine. But it's wild to watch
i kinda get that. when you only have a couple years left, losing 6-12 months of normalcy is a lot bigger hit than losing it as a 30 yr old so you just say fuck it but also living is nice so idk
If I had 6-12 months I'd agree, but not the case here. It's the bad kind, but they caught it early. He's got minimum 3 years but could go 5-7 if he handles treatment well. His oldest just had a grandchild and his youngest son is getting married in January. Big milestones next 5 years for his family. If he gets COVID, his death probability has to be greater than 75%.
“We could have easily had football this fall if everyone stayed home” The idea that the virus would have gone away in this scenario is a complete fairy tale.
i mean multiple countries have effectively ended community spread we're just a shitty inefficient selfish country
Western cultures aren’t going to accept the government welding steel plates on the doors of apartment complexes like they’ve done in Asia. Even if they did shit like that here it wouldn’t improve chances of any version of “normalization” until treatments/vaccine is found. Community spread will not end anywhere completely until there is a vaccine.
my favorite dumb guy who can't handle american not being the best schtick is vaguely deciding anything any other country does better than us that they can't ignore is because of ????? reasons
"We don't let big government intrude on our lives" "Fuck yeah Patriot Act" (pulls out iphone and opens up one of 50 apps on phone)
I don't follow this thread but got a heads up that Lyrtch ruined it yesterday. Somebody please link me to where the fun started so I can investigate, as Lyrtch discourse can only enhance threads imo
