Was shocked after my first quarter with Discover during their 5% cash back at restaurants. Apparently every bar I frequent is considered a restaurant.
word. I'm looking for a travel card as the cash back just goes to purchases and I want to force my hand to travel some more. Creditkarma has my scores in the 750s and recommended a couple of options, but I'm wondering if anyone has a recommendation. Would most likely be doing international travel if that matters
I don't know how all other cards work but with AMEX you can increase the limit after 60 days and then once every 6 months. 1st of April and October I get another 8-10k limit increase. Have gone from about $5k when I got it to (hopefully) north of $40k when I call on Thursday over 2.5 years. Really quick way to decrease your utilization if you just pay on time.
Current credit limit is $2,500. According to Credit Karma (which I know isn't accurate), my score is 760. Have had this card for over a year and haven't missed a payment. It's Bank of America. If I request an increase, what should I request?
i've done open ended before (was at like 3k and they bumped it to like 6k without anything other than my income at the time). obv gone up since then, but I don't know if i've even requested a credit limit increase since then.
Most credit card sites have a place where you can update your income, will allow for quicker credit line increases. Can call customer service too once a year. Make sure to see if it will be a hard pull on your credit as they can negatively affect your score in the short term. Also- I keep a little notecard, probably 2 inch X 1 inch w/ the quarterly bonus categories in my wallet so I know which card to use in certain situations. After a few weeks it's old hat.
Any credit score officianados in here? As of August 13th, my Fico score was 793 according to my AMEX account. As of today, it's 732. It had gone up for basically a year straight until this. Only two things have happened in this time. 1. I missed a payment by 2 days while traveling internationally, but I paid it off in full on that 2nd day. 2. I got a new travel card which immediately opened at a limit of $22,000 and nearly doubled my available credit. As I understand it, #2 should lower my utilization ratio and improve or not effect my score, but is #1 really enough to drop a score by over 60 points?? I normally wouldn't care but I'm going to buy a house in the next 6 months and that could many a worse rate.
Also, is there anything I can do to help this in the short term? The late payment was on 08/14, so is it too late to call and ask them to remove the ding on the report (if that was even an option to begin with)?
Unrelated to credit cards, but why the hell are credit scores such a secret? Most people have absolutely no idea what their credit score is unless they have a CC that sends their score on their statement.
Opening a new line of credit can ding you if it's a hard pull, depending on how many other pulls are on your credit at the time. #1 definitely hurts, though.
That's what I am assuming. Is there anything that can be done to have the ding removed? I know with APR changes and fees it can always be negotiated but is this something that can be negotiated or is it a once it's there it can't be removed type of thing?
If you have the Freedom. You want the Sapphire because you can transfer your cash back points to travel points between you & your spouse (if you have one). We put some of our wedding (which was at a bar) on the Freedom and maxed out the restaurant category. Put the rest on the Sapphire 2x restaurants. Combined the points on the Sapphire - transferred to Hyatt - redeemed for 5 nights.
Never hurts to call. Reference your situation and your history of on-time payments. Probably would have had better luck if you called immediately when you were back in the States. I use MyFico. And credit scores are bizarre. I was ignorant when I first graduated and didn't realize I had this one loan that was like $25 a month. I missed two payments. Experian is 780. Equifax is 760. TransUnion is 720 (was 690 when I first noticed - took forever to get above 700).
I just checked my score on CreditKArma and it isn't listing any late payments. The two items listed as "poor" are avg age of credit history (4 years 9 months) which I guess took a hit with the new card and credit inquiries, which is at 6 over the last 2 years due to car purchase, 2 new cards and home loan pre approval. I guess maybe the latest hard inquiry jumped a threshold or something and caused the big dip?
those all fall off eventually and you'll be fine. lenders usually wont report a late payment unless youre 30+ days late. someone was having a real bad day if they reported your 2 days
Received an offer yesterday from AMEX for the blue cash everyday. Usually it's been $150 cash back or points or some shit. This time it was for $50 cash bonus, and 5% cash back at restaurants for a year. May I have to take the bait for that restaurant bonus. The 3% at grocery stores is huge for me as it's my second biggest expense, living above publix. I was initially interested in blue cash preferred and their 6% grocery store rewards, but I don't want an annual fee and don't have a family to feed. Seems like a bit much.
In regards to the Blue Cash Preferred, it adds up. especially if you use it for everything. I put everything on the card I can except for American flights and places that don't accept AMEX. I spend probably about $2,000 a month on it and routinely get back $40-50. That's still $400+ even after the annual fee.
I have both of my cards from Capital One a Venture and a Quicksilver. I have really enjoyed my time with Capital One and the service. Never had any issues honestly.
Just got an iPhone 6S last night and added Discover to my wallet. Where should I be using it? Only place I've seen it is Chick Fil A, although I haven't exactly been looking for it. Where can I buy gift cards?
Anyone have issues with the Chase Ultimate Rewards Site? Seems like every other time I try to get on it, it takes forever to load and ends up timing out. Pisses me off.
I got 2 cc's with AF. Both have c.f. history over 5 yrs plus. But I'm tired of paying AF. 70 a yr I know I should cut up and place in drawer but would it be worth closing accounts and getting cap one or discover it? Do all the good cards have AF?
Annual fee. There are some solid cards out there with no fee but I think anything that is going to accumulate significant points/miles/dollars and have some decent perks on top of that will cost you. I'm going to end up with $500+ back from my Blue Cash Preferred this year. Well worth the $75.
Call them up and see if you can't "downgrade" to a card without an annual fee. If you can successfully convince them to do that, the history should transfer over and you'll have a card sans fees. Your rewards might take a hit, and you'll obviously accrue at a lower rate, but it doesn't sound like you care too much about that. Most really good cards have an annual fee, but if you get something with a good promotional offer it can be well worth the money. At least until it's time to "downgrade" said card
Some asshole tried to use one of my cards at Hollister online; Chase sent me a text alert about it. Not sure how they got the numbers, as it's in my wallet and I haven't used it since July.
My credit score got screwed up a few months ago. I have too many cards (Amex Blue Cash, Sapphire Preferred, Freedom, Discover it, and a Citi thank you preferred). I use all of them for different things. I missed a payment on my Discover because I forgot I bought some crap on amazon. I got an email saying my 120 dollar payment was due last week so I payed it off immediately. It's amazing that your score can drop from 790 to 720 over 120 bucks. I have since turned on auto-pay.
I had asked what banks y'all use for checking a couple weeks ago. Gonna go ahead with Chase for now as they are offering $300 if I open up a checking account and set up direct deposit. Can't pass up that offer.
