Churning a shit situation into gold: My dog got sick recently and had to have surgery. Some will think I’m nuts but I actually have pet insurance. All said and done, we ran up $10k in bills real quick. I had just applied for Chase Ink Unlimited for my wife so we smashed that min spend and got 1.5 points on that total. I’m happy to report the dog is okay and waiting for the check from the insurance. They’ll pay 90% of the total.
FYI - it looks like all three Southwest cards are offering the same companion pass bonus. Look at the different features and annual fees of each before you decide which to get. I think I just got the basic one with a $69 fee, which in retrospect was prob a mistake because the increased fee of the other two cards will essentially pay for themselves between the four upgrades and the $75 statement credit.
I got the “we’ll let you know as soon as possible” message for the SW card. I called the automated message and it said two weeks. So I called the reconsideration line and she said they wanted to shift around my balances to free up an extra 2k. I told her I opened up the World of Hyatt in November and would be fine with splitting that 24k balance in half, which she did. She also said it was not a problem that I opened another Chase card up in late November. I think I’m starting to fly a little too close to the sun so I’m gonna chill after this for a little bit.
Generally, Its a good idea to SM Chase and lower your credit limits before applying to another card. I usually drop it to 2K each card. Chase doesn't like to give out total credit limits in excess of about 50% of your income.
That math checks out based on my income and Chase card portfolio (Reserve, Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Ink Biz, World of Hyatt, and now SW).
that is enticing. just wrapped up two years of CP 17/18. Scaling back the travel this year and will double dip late in 19 to get it for 20/21. might see if the wife wants to grab it for herself tho since she isn't a big churner
Do you guys cancel accounts to be eligible for signup bonus after X amount of time or do some of you just have like 30 lines of credit slowly aging? I just got the Citi Premier in time to put about $5k or dental work on it. Should translate to about $1,100 in travel credit with the signup bonus. Meant downgrading my CSR to a Slate. And I’ve got an old ass Barclay’s card and a CO Quicksilver that used to be the Venture. I keep an Amex Delta Plat with my wife for the companion ticket. How am I doing?
Can I get a Chase business if I already have CSR? If so, referral link? And what’s a good bonus on that nowadays?
Yes, Chase Ink is the best offer going now. Let me know if you want a referral. https://www.referyourchasecard.com/m/21/6L5/FTWS/1545598897 Earn 80,000 bonus points with Chase Ink Business Preferred. I can be rewarded, learn more.
We mostly never close accounts unless we're going to get the bonus again at a later date. You're doing OK. You're not maximizing but you're comfortable and that's OK too
To be clear, I can’t get the Chase Ink Marriott Premier Plus 75k sign-up bonus since I have already done an SPG Lux and SPG Business Lux bonus?
Rented a car using the AMEX Platinum. It was broken into while I had it. I have filed a claim thru the Car Rental Loss & Damage Insurance "Can provide coverage for theft of or damage to eligible rental vehicles when you reserve and pay for an eligible vehicle rental with your Card." Eligible up to $1,000 worth of stolen goods and the process takes up to 45 days. Lets see how this plays out.
How do you think this plays out? Cliffs on the story, truck window smashed and luggage taken. Police report filed. Get a call 4 hours later from police our bags are found and the only thing missing is my ipad. I realize I'm very fortunate.
I believe you said that the entire contents of your bags were stolen, didn’t you? Or did they just take the iPad and faberge egg?
You know, if AMEX comes thru here, I might stick with this card and not try to stick it to them like I did with Chase.
Filing insurance claims is probably the smoothest with Amex. Chase Can be a pain in the ass as you have to deal with Chubb on your own
Tried going back in the thread to find it but no luck.. Which airline can I buy a $200 gift card towards with the AMEX platinum?
American and Delta at least. Maybe Southwest still works. United may not work anymore with the Demise of travel registry.
Keep us posted, I don’t have the AmEx Platinum but I’ll probably get it when the 100,000 point welcome offer comes back around, but it would be one if definitely consider keeping long term so I’m curious how this plays out too.
I got the $250 southwest gift card a few weeks ago. Got the credit to my account a couple days later. (Hilton Aspire Amex)
I’m 4/24 and already have a SW visa. Are there options for me to double dip SW cards or is that out since I have one already?
You did it all in one swoop, right? Not like two hunnits and a fifty? I did one $250 purchase two days ago on it. SHOULD be coming in soon.
Yes. Just used it to fly the fam down to Disneyland. I’m pretty sure one minimum spend was the tickets to get in the Mouse’s House
The Hilton Amex airline credit resets for the calendar year, right? Probably time to get another gift card this year
