When that happens ill happily walk away with my current 1.4 million chase points and find something ridiculous to do with them when i have time.
i'd be too risk averse to hold that many in one pot would put some in hyatt and virgin atlantic (very personal choice obviously)
This is exactly what I'm doing. Once P2 and I get our CIP 5s, we are transferring out to Hyatt and Southwest to cover our honeymoon and a few other small trips in the next 12 months, then cashing out the remainder to put some extra cash on student loans. We're both 4/24, so we'll probably grab another card and move to Amex. All points are worth 0 cpp unless you use them, even if you dont optimize every redemption
Why transfer or cash out? Worst worst case scenario is they shutdown my account and I have 30 days to redeem my points correct? At that point I just cash out and walk away.
Worst case scenario is they shut you down without the ability to use points. They havent done it before, but others have, and they are well within their rights to do so. 99% you're probably fine, lm just extra cautious when it comes to shutdowns. I've read reddit posts where people lost like 2 mil MR points.
I try and build points up, but then find a reason to blast them all away if I get to a certain threshold. That is a wild amount of points, man. I mean kudos, but split that shit up.
I have a friend who has something close to that amount of points combined with his fiancee that has never spent a single one
we have 350K chase points and 700,000 hilton points, but a majority of those will be spent this summer. i can't imagine having that many points in the UR "bank"
I don't see the issue with the CIP cards. Nothing is being done against any of the T&C, so I doubt they shut it down.
devaluation is the other fear and why i use my points quickly could halve the value of them in an email
So with AA ppl were using stuff that wasn't sent to them, using a random name to get a code, etc. That's widely different than just applying for a card over and over again.
Some were, sure. But there are shutdowns at 4 bonuses Enough CIP people have self-referred and have an absurd amount of CIPs that the party will end at some point, likely with clawbacks of some sort
Yup. Almost nobody suspected AA accounts would be disabled without warning, because it hadn't happened before. Sounds awfully familiar to the CIP loophole, and its why I went from hoarding URs for the perfect redemption, to burning them.
Between me & the missus, i'm sitting on 800k UR .. Looking to use them before the end of the year because I don't want the uncertainty / loss similar to the 650K AA miles that are in my account, sitting there until something changes
think I might shed my Marriott Bonvoy whatever (formerly SPG Lux) not worth the effort to basically break even every year, free nights get clunky to use when I have most the years travel already booked by the time my night comes through
Just giving you a hard time. But I think we were talking about that 4 or 5 pages ago and I think I got the email a week ago
Y'all have definitely made me more worried about having all my points parked there lol. I don't want to transfer because then I lose the flexibility of the UR portal. Only other choice would be to cash out at a 1 to 1 valuation :(. Maybe ill transfer a couple 100k to southwest, united, Hyatt, and Marriott. We use points anytime we travel but when I am getting 100k points every two months and can redeem at 1.5x its hard to overcome that. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas on what I should do?
CIP2 application is in with a referral from wife. Got hit with the "thank you for your interest we will let you know ASAP" email. What kind of wait am I looking at here? I can't remember since its been over a year since CIP1 for me.
I called Amex over the exact same thing with my Platinum card last week, and yes they prorate the fee back when you cancel
Probably a couple days in my experience. Keep calling the automated status line every day to check your application.
How many Hyatt points can you use in 5 years? SW? Send those at the least. Honestly at this rate you could cash out a lot and invest and you'd be at 1.5 soon enough in actual cash
Please explain? Im not well versed on the partners. Moreso just concentrated a small amount of time on how to rack up as many Chase points as possible. Not sure. I live 2+ hours from the closest SW hub but I have United in my hometown so that is more appealing (not sure value wise). Hyatt obviously is everywhere but I really enjoy Airbnb's when I travel but thats moreso because I can find a good deal. The reason I kept UR points is because I can book a hotel, flight, and a car all in the same spot at 1.5x and not be tied to a specific hotel chain or airline. Not really sure what I should do but know I probably should do something. Also, would like to possibly go to Thailand with the wife this Summer so may try to plan that now.
Awesome. Did not know that so appreciate the help. Thinking maybe cashout 500k, throw 200k to united (already have 130k), 250k to Hyatt, and 150k to SW lol? Leaves me with 300k in UR. I know there isn't a right answer just once its done its done. I will keep doing my CIP game as well. Side note wifes CIP5 got approved this morning without any hiccups. Damn. Wife takes the bar in 3 weeks so after that we both will have normal routine lives and I can sit down and actually plan something.
It’s true, I did that. And did 3 more nights at a 5* Hyatt partner with Small Luxury Hotels on points too. Hyatt rules.
Got return flights from Bangkok with the ICN > SFO leg in Polaris for 75k each. Seems like pretty good value.
