Not creepy, more sad https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanche_Monnier Blanche Monnier was a French girl who was kept captive by her mother in a padlocked room for twenty-five years in the late 1800s.
Monnier was a French socialite from a well-respected family in Poitiers, France. In 1876, at the age of 25, she wanted to marry a lawyer who was not to her mother's liking. Her mother argued that Monnier could not marry a “penniless lawyer”. Her disapproving mother locked her in a tiny room in the attic of their home, where she kept her secluded for 25 years. Her mother and brother continued on with their daily lives, pretending to mourn her loss. None of her friends knew where she was and the lawyer she wished to marry eventually died in 1885. On 23 May 1901, the Paris Attorney General received an anonymous letter that revealed the incarceration.[a]Monnier was rescued by police from appalling conditions. Her mother was arrested, became ill shortly afterwards, and died 15 days later after seeing an angry mob gather in front of her house. Her brother Marcel Monnier appeared in court, and was initially convicted, but later was acquitted on appeal; Marcel Monnier was mentally incapacitated, and although the judges criticized his choices, they found that a "duty to rescue" did not exist in the penal code at that time. After she was released from the room, Monnier continued to suffer from mental health problems that soon led to her admission to a psychiatric hospital in Boisé, France, where she died in 1913.
Oh shit. Count me in “In 1930, André Gide published a book about the incident, named La Séquestrée de Poitiers, changing little but the names of the protagonists.[2][6] According to Hevré Guibert this book was a great influence on the young Michel Foucault.”
So uhhh check out this guy's Facebook page before it gets taken down. What in the actual fuck. https://www.eastidahonews.com/2019/...ens-of-disturbing-posts-on-his-facebook-page/ https://www.facebook.com/philip.schwab.3 Spoiler
Idaho, Utah, Kansas, and one other. I believe you have the ability to present a mental state defense though in all four states.
BamaNug can this just be the creepy thread? I ended up going to the wikis of most of these... 5. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Cassie_Jo_Stoddart (Think this has been discussed here before) 4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murders_of_Alison_Parker_and_Adam_Ward 3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Kohlhepp 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Dahmer 1. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Maura_Murray

Good last podcast on the left series about her. The new one about Bob Berdella is really creepy as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Berdella
If you are into "true crime" LPOTL is a fantastic podcast. Some people dislike the humor, but I love it.
Nah, they have moments where Henry (the guy who does the voices and silly shit) gets them, but for the most part when they get into the bones of a subject they play it as straight as they can for a horror/humor pod. They seemed to do a lot more giggling in the early years. The Gunness series is a good example of what they are doing now. it's still silly, but you learn a lot.
Yes. They can have good content, but every time I listen it's like I'm going back to the 1990s and listening to a bad morning radio show, because of the forced laughter and bad jokes.
Just listened to the Crime Junkie pod on the Lindsay Bukiak murder yesterday. Not necessarily creepy. Just weird and seemingly random. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Lindsay_Buziak
More like immature drunk 30 somethings who stumbled into a way to make a living doing stuff they already liked but had to figure out how to be serious.
I just have an irrational hatred of the faux laughter radio personalities do to try and goat the audience into laughing with them. It can work sometimes, but most overuse that tool wayyy too much. If I am ever listening to the radio (or podcast) and someone is cackling so hard at something that doesn't warrant that type of laughter, there's a good chance I'll never listen again.
It's not fake, though. They're genuinely friends laughing at one another, even if you think they're idiots.
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/01/us/drones-FAA-colorado-nebraska.html One that's currently ongoing. Cliffs: Hundreds of large (6 ft+) drones are seen over hundreds of miles from Central Nebraska to Eastern Colorado at night. Some are in packs of 5 or 6. No explanation from any governing body as to why and it's been ongoing for weeks, moving Eastward. FAA/Homeland Security/FBI/Local PDs all have apparently been involved and nobody has taken responsibility.
Couldn't ever get into LPOTL, but I enjoy Small Town Murder. Feel like it does better blending humor and murder

Casefile is a solid listen. Australia vs United States is the major league version of Florida vs Ohio. A never-ending battle of depraved one-upmanship. CF has episodes on all the usual true crime pod cases, but it also has a good mix of crazy shit from Down Under (Belanglo, Snowton Murders, Mr. Cruel, The Catholic Mafia, Russell Street Bombing, Lin Family, Port Arthur, Somerton Man).
This was on Crime Junkie this week. Hadn't heard about it before. Bunch of dudes with intellectual disabilities get together to go to a Special Olympics type of basketball game in California. All of them turn up dead in the snow (in a totally random location) except for the driver who hasn't been found. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuba_County_Five
