So over time I've gone through all of the Jack Reacher books, and then all of the Mitch Rapp books and enjoyed them despite their obvious flaws. I'm looking for a new series to get rolling on and would love some suggestions. FWIW, I read the first Body Farm book, but the main character is such a bitch, I couldn't get into it.
Tom Clancy is fantastic and along a similar vein as the Mitch Rapp books. Older now, but damn the man could write. Brad Thor has a few good books as well, but he's not as good as Vince Flynn was. I could give you a mile long list of technothrillers from the 80's and 90's that are ancient from a tech perspective now but still great stories. I have never read a bad book by Nelson Demille, my personal favorites are Nightfall, The Lion's Game and it's sequel The Lion's Game. Dennis Lehane is fantastic as well, Mystic River and Shutter Island are brutal but so good. Robert Ludlum is probably 70's/80's era espionage fiction at its best, the Bourne series being his most famous works of course. Daniel Silva with his Gabriel Allon series are also excellent, as is Ted Bell with the Alex Hawke series. Jack Higgins and John Le Carre are also supposed to be masters of the genre, although somehow i have never read anything from either.
Yeah I like Demille's John Corey series a lot and Brad Thor is pretty good. I think Thor has some books on par with Vince Flynn but overall the series isn't as good.
Corey is one of my favorite characters in fiction, bar none. I agree, Thor has a few books that can equal Flynn, but overall Rapp is just a more compelling character than Harvath, for my money anyway. Consent to Kill is one of my favorite books ever. RIP Vice Flynn
There are many great ones. The Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva is awesome. Other that might be less known include: Stephen England - Harry Nichols series Jack Coughlin - Kyle Swanson series Tom Wood - Victor the Assassin series Ben Coes - Dewey Andreas series Dalton Fury - Kolt Raynor series Mark Greaney's Gray Man series.
