Spoilers last night Spoiler travis and Sam want to end this now. They are as frustrated as the viewers at the speed. Travis sacrificing the ranger squad was unexpected but I think fit fjord’s character. Ended up being meaningless but glad he made the choice. good plan, but bad execution not having Essek and Caleb close enough to counterspell. matt wants to unleash the final plan, no way was last night going to be the final scene. Mighty Nein going to beat the tomb takers easily now, but will be really interesting to see what happens to end the campaign. they are all clearly ready for C3.
Ooooh that is a good question. They would basically have the next two episodes, right? I missed the action from Thursday (fell asleep during the planning) so I’ll answer Monday.
session 1 of our new campaign is saturday. the guy running the character my character knows prior to the start of thw game has decided he "doesnt need a backstory because the frontstory is all that matters." which is 1. a ridiculous way to phrase it, 2. low effort, 3. frustrating.
Brand of Castigation. Blood Hunter order of profane soul. Next upgrade of it Final upgrade I only know this because I was thinking of a fun dex based blood hunter ranged type, but that whole subclass is ass. The brand of castigation is like 3 of your upgrades and it’s not great. order of the mutant or lycan seem best. Multiple people think Travis will play an order of the lycan blood hunter in C3. I think he’ll go fighter.
so i picked up baldurs gate 3 yesterday. the combat is 5e. fun shit but its a little buggy because early access. 5e combat is tougher when you don't have a party of 6+, apparently. currently tanking with an abjuration wizard. gg.
Love the game, binged it right when early accessed opened, stopping until full release now so I don’t get sick of it. Want barbarian class
I watched the first 30 minutes and just now caught the last 10 of last night.... so... nothing happened in 4 hours?
Caleb's eye thing totally gives him free detect magic. He had next to no spell slots at start of episode and blew 3 totally unnecessary detect magics and didn't think twice about the spell slot spendage. Also I think it's why Matt tells him he can see the scry/traveller when Jester is scrying now.
So my schedule made it difficult for me to DM, so I swapped with one of our guys and am going with a mountain dwarf sorcerer. From building/reading, sorcerers seem interesting as hell. We're trying to figure out our first session. Here's the character sheet. Any advice/critiques are welcome. https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/ryanrob/characters/48432557
my critique is use the race customization options from tasha so you don't have a +1 to your spellcasting ability
Need more charisma if you want to be effective. If you don’t care about how “powerful” your character is, then it’s all good. also probably wouldn’t choose 3 damage dealing cantrips especially since you grabbed magic missile
That being said, the only wizard I’ve ever played was fun even without dealing the most damage, but you’ll be super let down if all your cantrips keep missing because your spell attack modifier is charisma bonus + proficiency, and +3 is gonna make you miss a shitload. I can deal with not rolling huge damage rolls, but not even being able to land your spells, or having such a low DC that enemies always save against your control spells isn’t fun. which is also why Portent is my second favorite ability in all of DnD behind reckless attack.
So Andy Reocho not saying you can’t have fun with that character, but you might get frustrated when your spells don’t land. If that doesn’t bug you, you’ll have fun messing around with sorcerer point stuff.
also with a -1 dex mod you have a base AC of 9. medium armor would help but you need to get heavy armor proficiency with dex that low. if you go forward with that exact build then taking the shield spell is a must.
It’s the only wizard I’ve ever played, but I’d also strongly consider playing an enchanter, too. Also Mercer’s wizard class from explorers guide to wildmount seems good too from what I read. then again, I’ve only ever played one-shots/PUGs at local game shop so I don’t know what I’d choose for an actual campaign.
Which is why I think Tortle could make for a good spell caster. Base AC is 17. Just have to roll well for your spell caster ability.
Just caught up and Spoiler If Cree fails the saving through and goes down as well, how in the hell does that play out? Do the MN just save the day and thats it? Also, so many times players make a big plan only to have the DM seemingly meta-game around it. I'm glad Matt played it straight up. I think C3 is still a long way off. I suspect Lucien is going to get wherever he is going and is going to unleash whatever he planned on unleashing. I feel like that will almost be its own story arc, they may have to plane shift to the astral sea and who knows what happens then.
also Spoiler Fjord going to feel pretty shitty if Dagan ended up in the crossfire and died with the rangers [/spoilers]
Without any spoilers he said on Talks Machina afterword that he said he didn’t even think about doing differently since it is what Fjord would do, but did have instant regrets when he realized that their boy could have been involved, but wouldn’t have changed his decision in the end
seemed like a dumb move to me, I thought for sure the rest of their plan would fail because the tomb takers would be on alert
just listened to the talks machina, sounds like he realized how dumb it was since the guards were posted like right outside. No way they were getting a long rest
Starting Campaign 2 from the start. I won't lie, I can't stand how Marisha handles communicating as her character.
I think marisha really grows into beau. I think everyone’s season 2 character is better besides grog/fjord
I think this is non-spoilers, any guesses on what the blue domes are in aeor? My first thought is it’s some home brewed Mercer spell that works similar to sequester but Talisen convinced me maybe they are punishment for certain peoples by the gods
For me nott and scanlan are very close. I probably like caduceus more than most. Just love the character
He’s great. Cares enough to be an effective party member in combat, doesnt care enough to pull shit like not tipping off people to his curse, not meta gaming, not using halfling luck just to troll, etc.
a few thoughts: 1. last nights episode was....well nothing really happened. i did however love the exploration of aeor. big fan of the idea of playing a campaign with a thriving aeor like setting. 2. sam will actively hinder his characters performance trying to avoid metagaming at all costs. 3. i hated scanlan. veth is somewhat entertaining and i don't think jester could shine as bright without her, but maybe that's just because sam. tarry is his best main campaign character by a wide margin imo. 4. percy is a ridiculous character and that's fun but he's not very palatable. cad is fun to have around on the surface and in combat but he has no character depth whatsoever and is incredibly uninteresting. and the funny thing is his best character design yet is much more interesting after he dies. and some of taliesin's one shot characters are fucking brilliant. i feel like he is scared to do something ridiculous for the campaigns but he's not the only one. my all things considered tier list: S: Jester, Grog, Tarry, Beau A: Molly, Veth, Caleb B: Vex, Percy, Keyleth C: Fjord, Yasha, Vax, Cad, Pike, Scanlan D: Tiberius keyleth would be D if not for goldfish and moon druid. hopefully ashley's C3 character will be better with blindspot being over don't embarrass yourself again, travis how can laura even follow up this performance?
I was thinking about what Laura does next as well. It feels like she has to go in an completely opposite direction but Sam made another loveable, humorous character and Laura is definitely talented enough to do it again. Also I think you're the only person in the world that didn't like Scanlan
Your tier list was pretty spot on S: Jester, Grog, Tary, Scanlan A: Percy, Vex B: Caleb, Veth, Beau, C: Fjord, Yasha, Pike, Cad, Vax, Keyleth, Molly D: Tibs I’m struggling to enjoy this arc because I want to see the conclusion and all this seems like filler.
