through episode 23, my thoughts Sam making FCG a flat earther for no reason at all kills me. Sam playing a more ancillary character after Scanlan and Nott is weird but FCG is still very enjoyable. Have a feeling when we get to his plot arc it’s going to be really good. same thing for Imogen. Laura is such a big personality to see her play such an understated character is weird but it feels like thus far she’s the main character of the story. I hope when her story arc comes and goes she just doesn’t fall into the background. I know a lot of people didn’t love Beau (I did) but now watching Ashton, it makes me appreciate how well Marisha played even more because essentially they are the same character in different forms. Marisha is also killing it as Laudna. Not only is the character interesting but she routinely has the best comedy moments of the cast. Marisha had a rough start with keyleth but I think she is by far the most underrated cast member. Travis has cemented his place as the best cast member with Chetny. Everything he touches is gold and Chetny is no exception. Because of her schedule it always felt like Ashley was searching for her place with Pike and Yasha but she’s definitely found her footing with Fearn. She isn’t as chaotic as Jester but is gaining. liam is still very much searching for Orym’s place in the group. I didn’t love Vax but Liam clearly had a vision for him, also thought he was absolutely brilliant with Caleb. Orym is still just kind of there but I have confidence he’ll figure it out. Percy was interesting, Molly sucked, Cad was great, Ashton sucks. Maybe it’s an every other character thing for Talisen.
Early Beau sucked. Took awhile to make her a decent character that didn’t suck. Imo. Imogen is quiet and reserved, and therefore much more understated than Vex and Jester. fearne is great but it’s hilarious Ashley still doesn’t know how to play DND after 3 campaigns. Ditto. Seems like this will be shorter than previous guest.
Never watched D20 so this is my first time watching Brennan DM, he’s amazing. Also aabria is a better player than DM
I’m so upset this is only a 4 episode arc. Just got finished with episode 2. It’s going to be really hard to go back to campaign 3 after this. Also end of episode 2 xerxes what you doing?!
Brennan is a good DM. Trying to give everyone a solo scene after the break that has not only individual meaning for the character but could radically change their story going forward. crazy I’m 3 hours in and halfway done
Well, that was pretty great. Only gripe is it felt a little railroad-y, but it’s a 4 episode story so had to be pretty concise. otherwise amazing. Cast was phenomenal top to bottom
I’m in episode 3 and Sam and aabria have the greatest most realistic D&D relationship of all time. They are amazing together
im a podcast listener but their episode 3 interaction was so good I had to go back and watch the video. When Brennan did the thing about the one fairy stumbling into exandria and falling in love….no way he just improvised that right? He had to be sitting in that one
He’s a writer and in video you can see/hear him typing on his laptop behind the screen at multiple points, so I’m sure a lot of his stuff is pre-written. He has many of those lines in ep 3 and 4.
end of ep4 spoiler Spoiler sam's silvery barbs on travis to give marisha advantage on counterspell check is such high tier play, i was impressed. sure, it didnt work out and travis probably would have killed him anyway but thats irrelevant (and probably part of the reason brennan gave travis another reaction there).
Brennan is an absolute sociopath, he had everyone at the table in absolute tears there for the final 25 minutes. I can’t believe how invested I was in a story that was 4 episodes long. That was just absolutely incredible. I expected a lot going in and it just blew my expectations away.
also it has to be railroad-y because the calamity happens. You can’t have them avoid it in any way so he has to guide the story to that conclusion. speaking of the calamity I fell down the CR wiki on it and the world Mercer created is amazing and deep
Started Calamity last week when I was quarantined. Finished episode 1 over the weekend as I just don't have the time/ability to grind them out quickly. Brennan is so good.
Anyone watch/listen to dimension 20? Where should I start? Is it like adventure zone where one is really good and the others kind of suck?
After thousands of hours and years worth of content, I’ve reached the day I’ve been dreading. I’ve finally become current with the show.
Ideas that I’ve yet to use: Benjamin Button Wizard: Elf wizard who at the height of his powers was a world renown powerful wizard, who is end of life old age. He starts one level of Warlock and his pact bargain is to age backward, and every level up he takes a wizard level and gets a decade or two younger until he gets back to his full power, and will have to sacrifice his soul to the patron as he regains his peak form. pacifist bard: Complete the entire campaign without directly dealing damage, only support spells, CC spells, and charm/incapacitating effects lycan blood hunter but first dipping 3 levels for Bear totem barabarian so your wolf form is actually an actual bear. Dex archery based sharpshooter fighter class but then taking blood hunter dip for the mutagen version for the +3 dex mutagen and bonus damage.
Speaking of which, I’ve been thinking of trying to get back into playing again. The local place that used to run adventure league closed due to Covid related business drop. Might need to find a group online.
we did 3d6+1d8 drop the lowest for stats. i did ok not great. 17 16 15 14 11 9 the party so far seems to be a tortle circle of the shepherd druid with low con, a ranger, a generic spellcaster, one that is a total mystery at this point, and me. so 5 people total. martial classes don't interest me too much but we kind of need someone who can fill the tank role to some degree, the summons of the druid could help with a lot of the tanking aspect though. i really want to play a full caster because ive been given to ok to base a build around having a mizzium aparatus. i could, naturally, take levels in all caster classes to really abuse the wording of that item but i'm not sold on it. i could do a high int divine soul sorcerer but thats not going to be able to tank at all. i could run a bladesinger as a hill dwarf or shadar kai, no warforged or that would be an option too. the dm has given me an ok to run a coffeelock after developing a system that could limit it or at least have some repercussions but that honestly seems like a waste of a mizzium aparatus with how many warlock levels will need to be taken. i could do an abjuration wizard with a level in something that would give heavy armor proficiency but playing a low dex character is kind of terrifying. so thats where i'm at.
couldn’t you just do a cleric wizard mix so you can wear medium armor and have a shield while still having the ability to cast spells
If you want full caster and also to be out in front, just go one of tempest cleric, twilight cleric, death cleric or forge cleric
if i do a bladesinger i would have a base ac of 16 (with mage armor), with +4 while bladesong is active (+5 at level 4). a con mod of +3 means the d6 wont be so bad. outside of tough, warcaster, and a half feat for +1 int i have no other feats or asi allotted so i could go to +5 con eventually if i really wanted to. with that i could go hill dwarf for +1 hp per level. or shadar kai for resistance to all damage after using the racial bonus action that is basically misty step. shadar kai might be the better option there in the long run.
