Haven't finished the most recent episode but I'd just like to point out how odd it seems to me that this group has two sorcerers, who of course have low AC, and it seems that neither one has the shield spell.
8+ years in and liam is the only one who knows how to play d&d. tal did ok as caduceus but just ok and he considers it the gold standard of heal play.
eh, he's playing a usually unarmored character with 14 dex. his highest stat is strength which no one actually ever needs unless your combat focus is grappling.
I think Travis is having by far the most fun he’s ever had with Chetny. Was skeptical when he came on board but man he adds so much flavor to the campaign. Also feels like talesin has found more of a voice with Ashton
It’s taken a while but feels like campaign 3 has finally hit its stride. Hopefully they get away from drusar.
Idk I think limited runs are perfect for him. Too often and it would lose its charm. him and Travis’s chaotic style is perfect for one shots.
one d&d cleric just revealed. subclass happens at 3. martial weapon/heavy armor proficiencies moved to 2. they're trying to kill multiclassing. otherwise some nice changes. still don't care for the new spell prep method.
I toyed with a tiefling bard that had expert/proficiency in basically every skill. The ability to heal off their bardic dice makes them even more of utility monsters.
the first character i played was a bard with whom i tried to get proficiency/expertise in the most things possible (so was the 2nd character tbh). it's a very fun concept to play and it's always interesting to find a way to do it without crippling yourself in combat. playing a support role is definitely a good way to do that.
I loved the idea of the utility/control support but the party ultimately ended up needing another martial so I'm playing a Mercy Monk
I don’t think they’re trying to kill multi class as much as trying to nerf power builds. 2 level warlock dipping, single dip cleric, 2 level fighter for action surge…. I think trying to standardize all the classes is a good thing. We’ll see how it plays once all classes are released though. I know 5e isn’t perfect but there’s a lot to like about it as is.
I thought the mighty nein reunion was fun, but just ok for me. It’s actually my least favorite party dynamic out of all 3 and I know I’m in the minority opinion on that. Jester is still probably the best PC out of all 3 campaigns and Nott is A-tier but Caleb and Fjord are pretty meh after the intrigue and mystery are done imo.
matt having to look in the book to see if you can cast a reaction spell on your turn was disappointing
You can only fit so much in your brain. Sometimes things just leak out. Last nights episode was I feel like first that BH just around and that was a breath of fresh air
Venturing into this because of Vox Machina. A quick question. My 8 year old is hardcore into DnD (necromancer who specializes in skeletal archers and iron golems) thanks to Stranger Things and his summer camp counselors getting hooked on it. Is the podcast as R rated as the show? We usually put on Marvel pods or Star Wars audiobooks in the car but if possible I’d add this to the rotation.
at times. if you did campaign 2 you could avoid scanlan's antics but sam's character there can trend that direction from time to time though not as overtly. the language is what it is, he probably sees worse on the internet daily. but yeah, my main point is scanlan is the worst of that and none of the other main campaign characters even come close.
God, combat with a necromancer. Gross. Get that kid on a new character. I honestly don't know a DND pod that doesn't get a little blue. Fairly unfortunate
c3 seems to be leveling at a much faster rate than c2 did. perhaps they want to insure they hit the higher levels this time around.
Episode 64(out of 69 -nice) of Bureau of Balance Adventure Zone. I'm shipping Loop and Barry pretty hard right now. This has been just stellar storytelling.
Finished Bureau of Balance. I know they don't stay true to DnD rules occasionally but narratively speaking, I can't fathom an improvement on that story. They're such an entertaining group; the dad is a little annoying sometimes but listening to the TTAZZ after the finale, it's really apparent how proud he is of the 3 of them for doing this and also happy to be included. And he does offer some entertaining spots. For anyone that hasn't listened, I can't recommend that campaign enough. I think we're going to skip all the older stuff(may listen to a couple of the live ones they recorded along the way) and just jump into the current one. They're playing a game based on Blades In The Dark and are only 10 episodes in. It'll be nice to be caught up and only have to listen once a week while we indulge in some other 'casts. Thinking about starting CR C2.
it was so good and the last episode is crazy emotional. The last line of the campaign is so good. Something like thank you for listening to the adventure zone where 4 people play dnd so hard they cry
It's crazy to think its so old because listening to the final episodes, it's easy to compare it to the likes of Endgame in MCU - you get so many fan service and callback moments, but still get the payoff of the big fight. In a theater of words, Griffin did what almost seems impossible.
c2 is definitely the place to start cr. lot of immediate appeal from the characters and it's the only finished product.
