But I've still got 30+ episodes to catch up on!
My son turns 10 on July 15th. I got him the Starter Set last year and he and his younger sister have played a little with me, but their mom has never played and shown no interest. With his birthday coming up and covid-19 limiting the options to celebrate, mom asked him what he wanted to do. He said he wanted her to play with us and she said okay!
I'm a little nervous since I'm DM and not very experienced and want her to have fun.
Congratulations, the pressure's on. Don't blow it.
I have never played it personally, but by reputation A Wild Sheep Chase is supposed to be an incredibly fun and light hearted one shot. Might give that one a whirl if you want her to have fun.
I'll look into that, thanks
Minor update: after brief character creation talks she is so far thinking she wants to be a half-elf (specifically the daughter of Aragorn and Arwen) paladin because she likes the sound of the name of the class and that I described it as basically a holy knight. We'll see if that's what she sticks with when we get down to actually creating her character.
There's a conquest paladin in my campaign. He doesn't even really know what he's doing yet and he's hands down the strongest character we have in combat. Paladins are insane.
paladin is probably my favorite class, plus you can take the character in a lot of directions
episode 20 update: still cant wait until both orion and tiberius are gone
Youre getting close
its not so bad in the early episodes
but then it becomes obvious to everyone involved that he's not playing by the rules. which makes it awkward. and he's starts trying even harder to always be the hero. which makes it even more awkward. and he was clearly obsessed with marisha which im sure went super well behind the scenes. now his opiate problems have really set in.
chemo explains some of his actions but being a shitty person explains most.
RonBurgundy any chance for a Dumps and Dragons reunion show anytime soon?
Not anytime soon
some pretty great ones in the comments. Forgot about how hard I laughed at fjord vs the turtle
They are live, holy shit, thousands of subs notifications. Never seen anything like it.
yes, i am one of those
I renewed my twitch prime awhile back to watch narrative telephones
I love how progressive the community is and how much this show amplifies it
111k live viewers + YouTube live wowza
Whatever happened here
just finished the episode in which the kaylie reveal happens
last night's episode
fucking keyleths mom god damn
mercer is a genius
Was going to post something similar.
god tier planning my goodness. Can’t even imagine the amount of mental work he has done thinking about his fictional world. Reminds me of how Pat Rothfuss has thought about his universe for most of the past 30 years or so.
"ive been sitting on that since the beginning of campaign 1" he said. and that was, what, 8 years ago? i cant imagine being able to keep that a secret for damn near a decade.
I mean it was an unfinished part from Marisha’s C1 character backstory! That predates the live stream! And he made it into a plot point 8+ years later and narratively it made such sense and pulled off so well and with such detail that the cast didn’t recognize anything was off and yet nerds in chat could pick up on it instantly. Astounding. There is no better story-creating, narrative-weaving DM than Mercer.
the only thing better is if
Sam would have realized it without reading chat.
i do wonder who would have been the first to realize it if sam hadnt found it that way. i still suspect it would have been him. it was hilarious that marisha didnt make the connection instantly
Yeah I don’t know if anyone would have known until mid week when Twitter would have alerted them about it
I listen to the pod so I’ll respond to this next week
It’s a good one.
they avoided 2 fights, the TRex and the Boss, which I thought they should have fought. Mercer was just baiting them into attacking too, didn’t take the bait
Fuck, this show makes me want to play DnD
I played last night and we're 100% off the rails. They made like 3 choices i did not anticipate, and long story short my players are all in the feywild now. I had to end the session when they jumped into the portal because i had literally nothing prepped for the feywild.
Me and my kids haven’t played in a while because I’ve been lazy. Finally drew up the map they need but it’s so hard to balance encounters.
I need to find a group to play with
We've been prepping for a remodel of part of the house, so things got put on the back burner a bit.
Worked on her character today. Didn't have a ton of time so not fully done but she's sticking with the half-elf Aragorn/Arwen offspring. Decided to go with a Ranger like "dad". For ability scores I do 4d6 drop the low. She got an 18 on one, which we obviously used for Dex.
I'm going to run Dragon of Icespire Peak because the opening seems to give them a quick choice of two missions and should be relatively easy for me to do.
Son looks to be playing a human monk. Daughter an elven sorcerer. Sounds like my wife wants me to be a PC also, so I have to figure out which of my ideas to use for that. Think it'll probably be either Horace "Horse" Hornswaggle the halfling barbarian (because i find that idea hilarious. I've decided he giggles when he rages) or Shenn Brekaar the dragonborn paladin (for the minor healing ability). Hopefully we'll start playing tomorrow, but if not it should be Sunday.
Wish me luck lol
So my friend group made a push again and were diving in. I have ordered the players manual, DM guide, and monster book.
planning to use a pre-written adventures to start as most the group has never played, and my experience is a while 2 or 3 sessions. Any rec’s for what story/adventure we should start with
Also don’t want to do list mine of Phandelver as I’m pretty sure that’s what TAZ used and we have a couple TAZ listeners.
just copy what we did in dumps and dragons. Just re-skin the world to suit what your want
Thats the long term plan if everyone is into it. I don’t want to commit time yet to building this world and all my group doesn’t give two shits.
so with my kids I did something super simple. 1) you meet in a bar and there’s a hold up by bandits you fight off, 2) you’ve been hired to go clear out a bandit camp (give them a chance to scout and find a secret entrance into the camp/fort 3) profit and level up
buried temple to explore/battle map prepared. Characters done. Play shall begin tomorrow. Gonna use pewter Star Wars characters from Star Wars Monopoly as our characters for the fight since i don't have minis lol
Hope it goes well
Can I purchase a physical copy of Lost Mines of Phelander, and if so where?
It's in the DnD starter set. It's like 12 bucks on Amazon today
We played. Don't think she really gave it a chance but there was still laughing and goofing around as there tends to be. I'm admittedly not great as a DM, so I'm sure that didn't help
The module says to level up after finishing the first mission and the kids and I were saying "I guess your character retires", but she said to level her character up for her.
She has a coworker that is supposedly a good DM that has kids roughly the same age as ours that we were trying to figure out a time to play together with pre-covid. I'm guessing if she ever plays again it would be if we all get together with that guy DMing, but who knows? Sometimes she surprises me.
save her character for when the kids get in a tight spot and low and behold, here comes mom as a special guest to bail them out. They’ll love the surprise and she gets to be the hero
Starting to prep for first session. I’m intrigued to see how it goes once we get to the goblins cave and how I handle all the room to room movements/combats.
How many players will you have
5 in the group
Our group chat has been humming all day with everyone trying to pick characters/develop backstory
Remind them all hexblade is for cowards
